SamsonSeinfelder , to news in Tucker Carlson: Putin takes charge as TV host gives free rein to Kremlin

Russian propaganda molded a big part of a nation and some of its media into a submissive lab dog. Amazing that it became the Republican Party cozening up to Russia and making this 180° turn of it previous stance without losing the empty mind of their followers, as Russia transformed themself closer to the republican extreme it is today creating a match made in hell. Brother in heart, cruel, authoritarian, corrupt, brass, lying, projecting, and slaying anyone who falls out of line. And in the End of all the politics Bowtie-Tucky sits on Putins lab, panting, drooling, like the spineless overbred dog he is.

Carlson is a millionaire funded by billionaires (Rutger Bregman).

I don’t see the contradiction, Russia went from the center of a nominally socialist union to a hypercapitalist libertarian dictatorship, of course the Republicans are going to try and support it.

    It’s so crazy how true that is.

    If you follow politics, the recent deal between Biden, Democrats, and the Republicans gave Republicans everything they supposedly wanted for border security. They aren’t voting for it because Trump wants to keep hitting Biden on that issue during the election. It’s fucking insane.

    firstofus ,

    Kevin Wallace is asking Trump about whether statements of financial condition were included in the loan.

    Trump is evading the issue of the financial statements and continuing to talk about how much cash and other assets he has.

    silent2k ,

    It is for the fossil industry.

    nicetriangle ,

    Thing that drives me crazy is those assholes have had all the money in the world for decades to become global leaders in renewable tech and infrastructure. They know as well as anyone that fossil fuels are unsustainable and finite.

    But nah, they'll just keep riding this thing into the dumpster fire while gaslighting regular people about how our forgetting to turn off a light bulb is the problem.

    silent2k ,

    Lots of people think like you do. Unfortunately half the population is below average in intelligence and not interested in solving long term problems.

    galmuth ,

    Their mindset is “Fossil fuels are still needed now, and if my company doesn’t grab them, someone else will” and it’s just so easy to continue getting those short term profits for their shareholders.

    They may have long term plans for investment in renewables, but they won’t enact them until forced to (by government or market conditions). I imagine oil costs (and therefore profits) will skyrocket as it becomes more scarce, and they’d want to ride that all the way to the bank (and hell) before pivoting.

    Basically, capitalism will be capitalism - its only moral is money. The only way is to have governments worldwide force them to change, and that ain’t gonna happen.

    nulluser ,

    FYI. The quantity of bees in a hive has more to do with their ability to find good food sources nearby, and the suitability of the place they’ve made their home, and nothing to do with their temperament. That size hive would not be considered particularly remarkable in an apiary. A “swarm” of bees is actually just a bunch of bees that split off from a successful hive and are looking for a new home and are typically very docile. Since this colony had a home (these people’s house), it was technical not a “swarm.”

    Still, curious to see what a Socialist country like Vietnam does when its prosecutors catch a person like Truong My Lan red handed. Its such a far cry from what American prosecutors did with offending bank managers after the 2008 Financial Collapse or the UK prosecutors who investigated the Wirecard scandal or the SEC/FCC responded to countless instances in which Elon Musk got caught manipulating stock prices.

    FlyingSquid , to startrek in The 'banned' Star Trek episode that promised a united Ireland
    @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

    I think it’s funny that the episode that very briefly mentions Irish unification was banned, but the episode that stereotyped all Irish men as drunkards and all Irish women as scolds was just fine.

    TheGrandNagus , (edited )

    I mean, one was viewed as being supportive of an ongoing terrorist campaign, a touchy subject in both Ireland and the UK, that no TV channel wanted to get involved with, and the other was viewed as a dumb cringe-inducing stereotype.

    Imagine the tables were turned and an Irish or British show airing in 2001 had an episode where they appear to be supportive of al-qaeda carrying out 9/11, and another episode where they depict Americans as being fat, uneducated, pickup-driving hillbillies with tacky bleached blonde hair.

    I suspect US networks wouldn’t show the first episode, but they’d show the other one, even knowing it’d elicit an eye roll and a “Christ, is that really what they think we’re like?” from the audience.

    FlyingSquid ,
    @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

    I get why they banned the one they banned (even though I wouldn’t have been okay with it at the time), I just think it’s funny because Up the Long Ladder is basically “let’s cram as many Irish stereotypes into one episode as we possibly can” and they didn’t think that it might be extremely offensive to Irish people.

    EDIT: Just the very concept that Irish people would colonize another planet in order to be pig farmers is pretty offensive.

    Anticorp ,
