Hi all, when I first joined Lemmy (and the fediverse broadly) I was interested in having discussions around animated media. Unfortunately it seems all the existing communities were either dead, inactive, had a slightly different (usually narrower) scope, or some combination of the 3....
Weekly thread to discuss whatever you’re working on, big or small, at work or in your free time.
I know the real answer is reddit but I really don’t want to go back now that I’ve already grown used to life without it. I was hoping for Lemmy to be a viable substitute but it isn’t. I can see how this place is wonderful for the certain type of person but that person is not me. My experience during the past 6+ months has...
It has been a while since the last one. So…...
For me it’s quantum computing - especially considering its impact on most current encryption methods

I’ve been looking more seriously at making a permanent switch to Linux, as I don’t plan to ever upgrade to Windows 11. I’m currently running a dual-boot with Ubuntu Studio, and I’ve been trying to piece together everything I need to move my regular usage over....
Other than a slew of Nintendo titles that maybe hopefully will come down in price (the patient gamers’ bane), I have my eye on the next time Divinity: Original Sin 2 goes on sale. A friend who never plays anything other than WoW loved playing Larian’s newest with me and I’m trying to get her to pick this up. Pretty sure...
By deep I mean with the most obscure original. I am not talking ‘all along the watch tower’ but things like Fever Ray’s cover of Vashti Bunyan’s song Here before...
The only game I have ever played is FIFA on a PS4. Now I have a gaming laptop but have no idea how I should go about playing games on Linux. Appreciate your help in advance!

I selfhost (amongst other services) NextCloud where I keep my pictures, medical staff, …in short, private stuff and I know that it’s pretty difficult that a thief...

I wonder if the charging port on mobile devices will go the way of the 3.5mm jack and be replaced with Qi and other wireless charging protocols. I also wonder if we will be forced into Bluetooth for all extension devices we used to connect to usb-c.
I have forge accounts from three respective sites: GitHub, GitLab and Codeberg. In all of these forges, I’ve opted to use secret e-mail. The reason for this is that when I had my original e-mail, I was spam-bombed job roles by a company from Shanghai within the Linux foundation, called Zilliz. Apparently, they extracted emails...
I’ve preferred Pixel phones for the last few years but I’ve heard that Pixel 6/7 had 5G connection problems (Pixel 8 apparently has a better modem, but I think I’d rather stick to a Qualcomm design for now)....
I played a fair bit of GTA Vice City back in the day round friends’ houses, but never played all the way through. Mostly just ran people over, got as many stars as possible and died. Don’t get me wrong… I had a blast… but recently thought I’d play through the whole thing....
