There doesn’t need to be a separate access panel. It can just be in a normal battery holder like so:
https://imgur.com/a/Zur6G0x Replaceable CR1225 in Cisco 1802

Considering it’s something that generally runs 24/7 for years, it may still be a good idea to clean out dust from the device when possible. That’s also an opportunity to replace the RTC battery, assuming it’s replaceable.
Oh, hey, it seems Cisco even used to provide some Li batteries until 2017.

Also, not all businesses need the networks up 24/7. There may be plenty of time for down time for maintenance.

user224 ,

How is it different from raising them for food?

user224 ,

I am totally fucked up, so here’s one:

“Are you interested in any mutual sexual activities (not limited to regular sex)?”

The problem is that I am hoping for a “no”…

Not quite something I’d want. Quite the opposite I’d say. As I said, I am fucked up. But nope, nope… I don’t like that idea.
I don’t know what to do about it.

Either way, valid for all questions by me, I’d like to include a note that not all (if any) questions need an answer. I am terrible at wording stuff, and something cannot be easily answered either.
(I am assuming this is done on paper or electronically. Otherwise it’s most likely I’d just chicken out right away.)

user224 , (edited )

Maximum, that is.

Thanks for stating that first. My dumb ass was thinking how you’d enforce that as minimum…

user224 ,

I want to get a bodycam, but I am not sure how people would respond to that. Should be pretty legal in public spaces, but still…

user224 ,

spare your free time

But it’s not free time if you’re not free to waste it ¯\(ツ)/¯

user224 ,

Definitely KDE Plasma.

who is on Lemmy (the sociology of Lemmy)

I dont know if this has been asked before or if this may be a little goofy of a question but I didn’t see anything relating to it and I’m kinda curious what the culture of Lemmy is like and what sort of common things people see. ive been paying attention to interactions but nothing is as good as just asking everyone.

user224 ,

You still didn’t answer the most important question of Lemmy, though. ^(joke)^

Do you use GNU+Linux?

user224 ,

Technically, every generation up until now contributed to modern tech.

But anyway, even if we consider just those who did directly, I am pretty sure you should still also include boomers and even the silent generation.
Check out the computer chronicles: archive.org/details/computerchronicles?sort=date

Seems modern enough already.

user224 ,

If we’re speaking of the technology, depends on implementation. “VPN” is a fairly broad term.

user224 ,

Unless you want to install older apps on modern Android. Then you need ADB.

adb install --bypass-low-target-sdk-block app_filename.apk

user224 ,

I felt that.

I actually like MIUI, I just wish I didn’t need to memorize many bugs and ways to get around them.

user224 ,

have fun adding repos

Have fun searching web for exe and msi files.

user224 ,

Yes, but it could have been solved with a warning.

Instead I believe it just says that the app is “Incompatible”.

Will I ever be seen as truly British?

My family immigrated to the UK from Poland when I was six. I’m 20 now, speak much better English than Polish and feel like this is my land/culture. However I have a Polish first and last name, Polish passport and “unique” accent everyone picks up on, so despite this I’m usually perceived as an outsider. It makes me...

user224 ,

I am afraid not.
It’s with you like race. You can’t change it.
If you’re part of any minority you’ll always attract these dumbasses.

Sorry, I’d like to tell you something better.

Oh, and the “Say something in Polish” may very well be meant well, even if it’s annoying. Nobody but you knows how often you hear it.

user224 ,

Why? Looks, voice.

If it’s not intentional, it doesn’t matter.

Like, take this picture of the friend for example, what gender comes to your mind looking at that

JPEG. A cooked JPEG. That JPEG isn’t well done, it’s congratulations.
(Can’t tell)

user224 ,

Not sure what specifically you mean by “died”. Does it have many bad sectors, does it fail to spin up, does it keep clicking,…

Anyway, preferably you’d remove it either way, at least to save power.

You can also take it as opportunity to remove dust and replace thermal paste.

user224 ,

Stop downplaying it, call it by its most descriptive name:
Hydric acid

user224 ,

I just got ghosted by the girl I was talking to

I am sorry, but are you sure it isn’t accidental?

I might have accidentally done something like that in the past myself to someone. I have 0 social skills and I am terrible at understanding relationships between people and picking up social cues correctly.
I feel like I just completely misunderstood the situation so I entirely stopped talking with that person (if that’s what “ghosting” refers to).

user224 ,

It’s also possible she’s going through something bad and doesn’t want to pull OP into that.

There’s no way to tell with a lack of any communication, and assuming stuff is inaccurate.

user224 ,

Well, phone numbers do get re-assigned too.

user224 ,

Fuck NIGGERs

This implies “NIGGER” is an acronym. Mind expanding it?

user224 , (edited )

Here’s specs: liliputing.com/moondrop-miad-01-smartphone-with-h…

Seems nice. I just wish it had removable battery, like phones used to, so I could carry a spare around, like I used to with Sony Ericsson W200i.
Also dedicated dual SIM + MicroSD instead of hybrid.

Just got an idea, the Galaxy Flip has 2 batteries. Small one, and large one. What if there was a small one built-in, and a larger swappable one. You could then hot-swap the batteries like with some ThinkPads (those with internal + external battery).

user224 ,

But no headphone jack.

user224 ,

When I was absolutely new to computers I was given a similar instruction. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice whatever the key was actually being its own key, let’s say Ctrl, so I began to press down C+T+R+L.

user224 ,

echo “vim garbage.txt” >> ~/.bashrc

user224 ,

I did also get some suspicious audio from Deezer. It depends on what the publisher provides.

Tidal also goes above CD quality, if you’re into that. Some songs go up to 192kHz at 24 bits.

user224 ,

So… it’s a commercial service… relying on people doing piracy?

user224 ,

Alternatively, you could use Navidrome.

I use that because it’s natively available in Termux. Yes, Android terminal emulator. My music is on the SD card and I can share it to other devices using Navidrome on LAN. Since I also do this on school network, I put NGINX in front of it for HTTPS… and also because I don’t want to have each thing on separate ports.

I have also got Jellyfin to work once in proot-distro, but I couldn’t reproduce it the last time.

user224 ,

Eeh, they already did it with nokia 3310 and 8110 in 2018.
So I guess it still seems worth it.

As a sidenote, what the fuck, that was 6 years ago?

user224 ,

If possible, bookmark 68k.news and frogfind.com on those phones.

user224 ,

I’d rather like smartphone in a different package.
Like so:
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/wsoAAOSwysVkTblJ/s-l400.jpg

I don’t think they still make such phones though.

user224 ,

If we’re referring to such old phones, the only WAP site I know is the test from Nostalgia Nerd. From this video [YouTube]

user224 ,

how long before you’re not offended to find out it’s been chucked?

If it’s the kid’s decision, personally, 0 seconds. Though, in that case, if it were just to be thrown away* I’d rather take it back and return it or resell it, perhaps even just for symbolic value so that it isn’t wasted.
This is true for everyone. It’s stupid to hoard useless gifts. But then again, I also consider gifts a bad idea all together.

*If the kid says he wants to sell it to someone, exchange it, gift it,… , that’s reasonable.

If it’s the parent’s decision, infinite time, unless it is rightfully** ruled the gift was inappropriate ^(sorry)^.

**E.g.: “He’s too old to have plushies.” is not reasonable.

AM radio law opposed by tech and auto industries is close to passing | Ars Technica (arstechnica.com)

A controversial bill that would require all new cars to be fitted with AM radios looks set to become a law in the near future. Yesterday, Senator Edward Markey (D-Mass) revealed that the “AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act” now has the support of 60 US Senators, as well as 246 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives, making...

user224 ,

I also don’t have much knowledge here, but I don’t think much.

I guess the wavelength differences on HF and below would be too large for something of larger bandwidth. And anyway, the AM broadcast bands aren’t that large anyway. Plus there would still be too much RFI from foreign broadcasts.

My idea is, it could perhaps be upgraded to DRM. But this is used very rarely since it requires DRM-compatible receivers.
But personally, I don’t think this would be a better idea than AM. Having to get new receivers for over-compressed digital audio? Nah.

Second, probably not the best idea, some of those could be license-free bands. E.g. for LoRa. Imagine Meshtastic on HF.

user224 ,

I do 3 with easter egg on other side of that corner.

user224 ,

Phone, probably in 2012 or 2013: Sony Ericsson W200i.

Proper computer in 2020: (Laptop) eMachines e627. A very slow AMD Athlon 64 powered laptop. It broke after 2 months of use. It’s what got me to Linux. I barely got any understanding of what OS is, less so a difference between Linux and Windows, but I needed one. I found the UI of Windows 10 too complicated, so I went with Linux Mint 20 MATE.
Of course, that is only after learning what “distribution” is.
My ass was trying to find “just Linux”.

Thankfully, it already had Windows installed (used, unclean, untrusted, potentially unsafe to use) and I managed to dig out some DVD-RW which used to have some cartoon on it. Of course I had 0 flash drives.

For the reference, I am 18 now.

user224 ,

Well, some are certainly trying with AI.

user224 ,

And only after he haf stopped moving for 5 minutes did they check and realize he was dead.

And then it took them extra 3 minutes to decide they might want to do CPR.
