I’m on another server, that’s why. :) Peertube has plenty of instances.

I mean CUDA is probably never coming to Nouveau/NVK. Never say never still, the current focus is definitely on gaming though.

ReverseModule OP ,

No, no. I have nothing to do with any kind of Linux dev unfortunately. I do want to start learning Vulkan though. XD

@ReverseModule@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Wait till you see MGS V at Ultra running at 60 FPS stable if I manage to capture it. No bugs or glitches included. I’m amazed myself.

ReverseModule OP ,

It only exposes Vulkan 1.0 which means only DXVK works and up to version 1.5.1, not later. Also, Rise of the Tomb Raider was extremely slow when I tried it so some major optimizations have to be done as well I think. Beyond that it’s perfectly usable.

The only way to properly use NVK now is Arch Linux or something based on it. Ubuntu doesn’t even remotely have the necessary packages yet. On Optimus (running with both GPUs -AMD and Nvidia - on) everything works splendidly desktop-wise yeah. On MUX (meaning running only on the Nvidia GPU on the laptop) nothing works properly, so be warned.

Yes, the driver is 6 months old. It can also run Overwatch 2 at 100+ FPS in some areas. For 6 months, that’s staggering performance.

ReverseModule OP ,
@ReverseModule@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

The driver is just beginning to be developed. It’s a miracle it can do this already. In 1-2 years it should be be immensely better, I would say, at this rate, comparable to the proprietary drivers of Nvidia.

Serious games are a genre. So like education games, brain training games. These are called Serious Games. This is a traditional Action RPG with the aim to make the players think. :)

Lina replaied to me on Mastodon and said it’s not usable yet, so I’m gonna have to wait to properly test gaming on an M1.

ReverseModule OP ,

Makes sense. I have great hope for NVK, the open source Nvidia Vulkan driver, in 1 or 2 years. Perhaps then, things will be the other way around. :)

OP of the original video here. Wait till you see the Nvidia Optimus results. Even I was dumbdfounded by them. Windows is SOOOO bloated it’s thermal throttling like no tomorrow on my laptop. Linux is about 20% faster even on Nvidia. XD

Nvidia SUCKS!

I am trying to repeat my 10 Benchmarks video on my 3080M laptop, which I haven’t really used for a while apart from testing NVK. I had forgotten just HOW much Nvidia sucks. I had to reinstall the OS cause OpenSUSE stopped booting after I installed the drivers the first time. X11 is ALSO buggy on Nvidia and crashes randomly....

ReverseModule OP ,
@ReverseModule@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

My 3080M won’t go higher than 80W on Linux for the past 3 years that I have this laptop. I tried both the 535 and 545 drivers, still same issue. This is absolutely unacceptable.

ReverseModule OP ,
@ReverseModule@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Thanx for the rollback command! :)

And yeah, some games wouldn’t even boot. So I’m doing 5 games in this benchmark after all. Perhaps it’s cause it’s an Optimus laptop.

ReverseModule OP ,
@ReverseModule@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I reinstalled Tumbleweed and it worked fine. Have a 3080M vs 6800M benchmark coming up once it’s done transcoding.

On the left it’s Linux and on the right it’s Windows.

ReverseModule OP ,
@ReverseModule@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I haven’t really played so I can’t really tell you.

ReverseModule OP ,
@ReverseModule@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I just launch the games personally.

ReverseModule OP ,
@ReverseModule@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Your doubts re completely unfounded. Linux was set up in 5 mins, I just installed OpenSUSE, installed Steam and ran the games, since the AMD/Intel drivers are included in the kernel.

On Windows I had to set up for like 45 mins until the installation and all the updates and drivers were done.

ReverseModule OP ,
@ReverseModule@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I literally installed the system and Steam and ran the games. Linux is easier than you think with an AMD GPU. AMD Drivers are not even needed.

ReverseModule OP ,
@ReverseModule@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Hahaha, I will admit the previous title was somewhat in people’s faces. I just went with a factual title this time. XD

Awesoem, I’ll check it out then! :)
