Help, I need wireless in-ear phones with a long battery life. The noise of the AC and fans is devouring my will to live, my over-ear headphones are too warm and silicone ear putty doesn't work very well for the higher frequencies -.-

Can the autistic hive mind recommend some?

I'm also looking for passive in-ear noise filtering. Has anyone here tried those ring-thingies? Calmer I think they're called.

Thank you.

@tine_schreibt @actuallyautistic move to a hut in the forest.

Seriously. It's a very rare day when I hear a human voice my side of the hill, and machines at most a few hours a week.

Feeling shaky and on the verge of crying although I'm not sad. It's just too much sensory intake, too much socializing, and too much emotional burden.

One more week to go until the summer holidays and I feel completely exhausted. A complicated problem with one of my students drains me and there will be very unpleasant talks.

I guess I'm close to meltdown and/or shutdown.

Do you also feel like crying when you're close to absolute overwhelm?

@Sci_Fi_FanGirl @actuallyautistic Aye, I'm totally there with you.

I have a question for I've been thinking about writing
in line with the genres I already write. However, I write for fun and for my "happy place", I'm wondering if there has to be a murder in a cozy mystery or if I could deal with other crimes and if they can be written without all the frenetic/zany side characters? Is that a different mystery subgenre?

Thoughts appreciated.

@KitMuse @bookstodon a death that happened long in the past – Josephine Tey's 'Brat Farrah' and 'The Daughter of Time' are excellent examples.

@IdeasRoadshow @histodons @bookstodon seriously, it is completely impractical to have a different app for every podcast. Just publish an feed, we'll choose our own apps.

simon_brooke ,
@simon_brooke@mastodon.scot avatar

@viq @IdeasRoadshow @histodons @bookstodon well yes, I know this. But they can actually get a lot of data from simple log analysis of the server serving the media files, so even that excuse is pretty thin.

Memory on my device is mine, and it's precious. If you want to use it for an app, that app has to be offering me something compelling. I have existing apps which can play audio and video streams, and render text, I don't need another.

@actuallyautistic How much of a thing is "friendzoning" with neurodivergents?

simon_brooke ,
@simon_brooke@mastodon.scot avatar

@PossiblyAutistic @actuallyautistic neurodivergents diverge in all sorts of directions, so attempting to generalise about us is probably unwise.

To my fellow who are also into programming. Can you handle / ?

Up to how much complexity?

When I was younger, it was easy. Today, I have to use a test tool! ^_^;;

@youronlyone @autistics @actuallyautistic I think that's a feature of aging. I could do all sorts of intellectual tasks in my twenties and thirties that I absolutely cannot do now.

I'm pretty sure that it's true of "neurotypical" people just as much as it is of us.

Many things that may seem trivial to others might not be so for an autistic person.

Going to the grocery store can be incredibly stressful navigating the many people, sounds, lights, smells and decisions. It can be overwhelming.

@autism101 @actuallyautistic Aye. This is something I used to have acute difficulty with, and still have quite a lot of difficulty with.

Random Public Service Announcement: The hashtag means the author of the post containing that hashtag is an actually autistic person, as opposed to a relative, caregiver, or practitioner who is not autistic. It came about because autism-adjacent folks kept speaking over us, and we needed a way to identify when an autistic person was speaking for themself. The hashtag says nothing about whether someone has an official diagnosis, only about whether they identify as autistic. It is not correct for an allistic (non-autistic) person to use the hashtag to describe an autistic person - is a perfectly cromulent hashtag for that.

@pospi @joshsusser @actuallyautistic well, I congratulate you on being "sub-threshold", I'm sure that's very nice for you. But don't you think you should leave it up to those of us who are to determine how the hashtag gets used?

Yes, I acknowledge that we do navigate life with differing degrees of difficulty, but we all really do have enough to put up with without being condescended to by folk who don't share our experience.
