Is anyone here using their hardware TPM chips for credentials?

I’m curious about the possible uses of the hardware Trusted Protection Module for automatic login or transfer encryption. I’m not really looking to solve anything or pry. I’m just curious about the use cases as I’m exploring network attached storage and to a lesser extent self hosting. I see a lot of places where public...

I use it for storing luks credentials, so every time I boot I get dropped at my login manager. It leaves my system vunerable to attacks to it, but its quite convenient.

Besides, if anyone tries to boot any other OS which is not mine, the keys are erased.

fedoramagazine.org/automatically-decrypt-your-dis…

I’ve read this article to make my setup, but its very informative about the function of TPM too

richardisaguy ,
@richardisaguy@lemmy.world avatar

It talsk about pcr, every time another OS is booted some pcsrs are changed, and if the keys are installed on the correct ones, this will lead to it being erased

I think KDE plasma 6 has that by default

Pirated video games SOURCE CODE

So there are multiple sites&groups that pirate video games especially on PC. I was wondering if there are places on the internet where you find source code for games especially the highly modifiable ones like Half Life 2/Portal and Skyrim. Or groups that crack into the source code of games (or even software in general), not only...

Switched from Manjaro to Fedora after being told Manjaro is "a bad distro" by many. Looking for a telnet terminal such as Syncterm to run on rpm or flatpak. (lemmy.zip)

Welp, I made a similar thread yesterday regarding Manjaro but I decided to swap to Fedora as my daily driver for stability purposes. Unfortunately since fedora is yet another non Debian distro I need help finding a Syncterm replacement....

You van try creating an arch linux distrobox and install yay inside that

[Solved] Help with PollyMc

I have been trying to use PollyMc but I can’t really figure it out. So I launched minecraft after adding an offline account but it doesn’t seem to work after closing the launcher and opening minecraft again. If I have internet it starts to download some library files again and then it does launch minecraft. Do I have to...

Best distro for Lenovo Carbon X1

I have a Lenovo Carbon X1 that is a few years old (7th gen), and I am running Fedora 38.5 with GNOME 44.5. The issue is that the system does not sleep properly. If I close the lid, nothing suspends properly, so if it is not on a charger or shut down it will die within several hours in my bag. Are there any distros that handle...

You could try fedora KDE spin or opensuse… But not sure if changing will fix these issues

OpenSUSE Leap 15.5 -> Tumbleweed conversion

Thinking of trying to morph my Leap workstation into Tumbleweed (and potentially Slowroll once that project matures enough). I’ve seen that you can do it . I reckon I can rollback relatively easily via the BTRFS snapshots if it goes sideways, but just curious to see what others’ experience with doing so has been.

Not sure if Firefox supports that… For what I remember, PostmarketOS, Ubuntu touch and other mobile linux distros actually patch Firefox for allowing that behaviour

richardisaguy ,
@richardisaguy@lemmy.world avatar

You van both use rpm-ostree and toolbox to install regular fedora packages on silverblue/kinoite

Yes, everything will be a folder in plasma 6, including applications, don’t worry, you I’ll love the new Firefox folder. Its the natural progression of things, don’t try to stop it.

How Ubuntu Linux snuck into high-end Dell laptops (and why it's called 'Project Sputnik') (www.zdnet.com)

Today, the Dell XPS-13 with Ubuntu Linux is easily the most well-known Linux laptop. Many users, especially developers – including Linus Torvalds – love it. As Torvalds recently said, “Normally, I wouldn’t name names, but I’m making an exception for the XPS 13 just because I liked it so much that I also ended up buying...

Help, no session?! (lemmy.world)

I just installed a cisco vpn. And after installing some required libraries I got the option to get rid of “unused” libraries. So I did ‘sudo apt autoremove’ as suggested. After I rebooted I no longer have a either x11 or wayland in the drop down menu. I can no longer login via the GUI....

Good choice, but remember to always containerize things, use flatpak and distrobox when possible, opensuse is excellent as a base distro to build your setup on top of, but i wouldnt say so much to actually be your setup. Opensuse user speaking

richardisaguy ,
@richardisaguy@lemmy.world avatar

I would try using it inside an archlinux distrobox, and install using yay or some other aur helper

richardisaguy ,

At least you haven’t got the Linux austism in which you and no other IRL person talks about

richardisaguy ,

Well, then try flatpak light be a good option, check if flatpak is installed with flatpak list, it it is, would should see a list of applications and runtimes, if thou don’t see steam there, you can easily install it with flatpak install steam
