Can you participate in a thought experiment with me? The posts warning about fascism are good, but I'm wondering what you think fascism actually looks like. Give a thought, and list what it looks like. Don't just say "the end of democracy." List what the concrete changes will be and make it local. "In my town/city/county/state the following will happen......" Think about it before replying. Not just for .

@fulanigirl
Come from a fascistic state. I can tell you exactly what it looks like. Everybody's terrified. All of the time. Some are terrified of the government, but most are terrified because of government propaganda. Every person who's strange in any way is a threat to be eliminated. Violence is everywhere bubbling just under the surface. Everywhere are calls for unity. You keep your divisive thoughts to yourself. You become a jumble of secrets >> @blackmastodon

@fulanigirl
You try not to talk to them at all. Who knows what side anyone is on. Every day is the same. Every person is the same. Except when the war (there's always a war) gets really bad, or comes too close, and then the fear, the hatred, the violence is even closer to the surface, and you hide yourself even deeper.

You think you should be brave and fight for your freedom, but you're alone, with no one to trust, and no one you can open up to.

That is fascism.

hiding behind a conformist façade. You lie to everyone. Your parents, your loved ones. No one must know you're different. There's always an emergency. You don't have time to relax. There's no time for maintenance, for taking care of yourself or others because the threat is ever present and always takes priority. You work all the time because work is always in a state of emergency as well. You don't talk to your colleagues about politics. >>

@actuallyautistic I am and I think most of my family is . That's why I viewed it as the "normal" or "typical" way to be until puberty more or less. I wonder if there's a context in which the so-called neurotypical are a minority and feel marginalized.

I think back to family dinners where some member of my very autistic family brought an allistic friend over.

I think they must have felt marginalized around that table 🤣

It's so frustrating that I can just about function "normally" for a year max and then everything goes to shit, regardless of what I do, what's been happening, etc.

Is this a common Autistic issue?

That I am a man.
That I have a gender at all.
That I have a nationality.
That I have a Homeland.
That I am Jewish because my parents are.
That I care about money/possessions.
That I care about their stupid neurotypical rituals.
That I am angry when I'm just non-verbal.
That I know about celebrities, pop culture etc.
That I'm stupid because I think before I talk.
That I'm antisocial because I need my alone times.

There's a fallacy that I keep making and I think it's because I'm : When I reach a conclusion in my mind based on logical deduction, I wrongly assume that everyone else must have reached the same conclusion, since they have access to the same data and logic is universal... Then when I tell other people my thoughts, I introduce them with "you probably already know it, but I realized that ..."

I saw a post on another social network that felt a little aggressive about people needing to learn to use tone tags (to which most of the replies were people who had never encountered a tone tag), and I found myself wondering... Do folks find this useful?

Honestly, I have a hard time remembering what they all mean much less use them as an indicator of what tone I should be applying to what I'm reading or writing.

It always baffles me how having a regular appointment at the same day at the same time is satisfying to me and not others.

Same how changing times on weekly appointments are hard for me to get right.

What „normal“ things are satisfying to you?

mux2000 ,
@mux2000@tooot.im avatar

@haui
Getting the door/microwave/kettle at the exact last second.

Finding something exactly where I left it, knowing it would be there.

Arriving at the station exactly as the bus/tram/train is leaving.

Streamlining a daily process to the point it becomes a fluid dance of efficiency.

Many things that may seem trivial to others might not be so for an autistic person.

Going to the grocery store can be incredibly stressful navigating the many people, sounds, lights, smells and decisions. It can be overwhelming.

and people, I have a question.

Do you listen to music to wind down or fall asleep, if so what kind?

My favorite music types to wind down and fall asleep to are, for some reason, very energetic, high bpm genres, with 90s jungle taking the lead.

For the uninitiated, this is jungle: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWTv94Wk9KTkJ?si=uO72w4IjS0mHZB4q2a4BZg

I’d like to hear your experience with music and its calming effects on you, so feel free to share.

mux2000 ,
@mux2000@tooot.im avatar

@CynAq
I did when I was younger, but since then music has become my special interest (I'm a composer) so now I find myself so engaged with music that it's energizing me instead of relaxing me.

I wind down using ASMR instead.

How many fellow Autistics have never lied on a job application, never lied on a CV, never lied on tax forms? 🙋‍♂️

Is doing that expected? Is it required? Is not doing that handicapping us? Do you too feel almost unable to do that?

I've never lied on any of those. In my mind, the worst that can happen if I tell the truth can't be as bad as the worst consequence of lying.

The benefit might be good, but that's a risk for people who really want to win at money I guess.
