When I’m reading one of these, I never know if it’s the nonsensical rant of a stubborn asshole, or someone who genuinely needs psychiatric help. In other words, I don’t know whether it’s okay to laugh or not.

Florida has a big animal agriculture sector.

Huh. TIL. Totally didn’t expect that.

Young entrepreneurs are cool. They’re interesting, enthusiastic, and genuinely want to make things better. They haven’t started enshittifying their product yet just because they’re greedy assholes. Remember when Google’s motto was “don’t be evil”?

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

That “most” is key. We can’t tell how they’re going to act long term. It’s nice to see someone who’s excited about their product, simply because they believe it’s good. Currently, they’re trying to be customer focused, which is a major plus.

It’ll be interesting to check in on these folks in ten or twenty years. They might turn out to suck, just like you say. However, maybe they won’t turn out like most companies, and will stick to the core principles they had when they started. Maybe they’ll become a major ally of the right to repair movement, and become an example for other companies to follow.

Our economic system isn’t undergoing major changes anytime soon. I want to see what someone who’s grown up with enshittification and planned obsolescence does. That’s what makes things cool and interesting.

If you could take a single character out of a piece of media (book, film, TV show, video game, etc) who would it be?

They would lose any magical powers they may have had in the book, but anything they are, rather than can do, will stay. For example people from the His Dark Materials world would keep their daemons. You can take them out at any time in the story’s plot, but for all other people consuming the media, it will be shown that the...

Corny as fuck, but here goes… Superman. Very powerful, very ethical. His abilities are specifically not magical, but a natural product of his Kryptonian physiology reacting to our sun.

The world could use someone incorruptible who has the strength to back up their words.

lol, it said ONE character! I’m not bringing over Lois or the Joker

I guess I should take this hypothetical question about fictional characters more seriously.

Deliberately making your neighborhood less attractive in order to fend off tourists seems like the worst possible solution to this problem. Why ruin the view for locals?

Okay, good. That was my major concern.

@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

That’s an interesting point, but I wonder - what happened to the post you called out?

Besides, they didn’t force people to be positive. That would be unrealistic. When I was a Beehaw regular, you could find lots of posts about negative, unjust things. That wasn’t a problem. They simply didn’t tolerate people who failed to express themselves in a respectful way.

There’s a difference. For example “are you feeling okay?” vs. “you look like shit.”

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

“To me, this reads like Nazi propaganda. What am I missing?”

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

I think they wanted to see people giving others the benefit of the doubt, instead of making snap judgments. It’s very easy to get into heated arguments online that could be avoided with simple clarification and communication.

If someone is simply bad at expressing themselves, the extra “room” can make all the difference in the world. If they really are a jerk, though, all you’re doing is giving them enough rope to hang themselves. Win/win!

Then again, you’re talking to someone who hasn’t visited Beehaw in almost a year. I don’t know how their moderation has changed.

I’ve often wondered why the FTC allows it to be marketed as “Full Self-Driving”. That’s blatant false advertising.

At first, I thought this might be the University of South Carolina, and I was impressed as hell. For Southern California, though, I’m surprised that protesting isn't a graduation requirement.

Edit: Do people think I’m insulting student protesters? I’m not. They’re important, and it’s okay to make fun of friends.

Viruses don’t care what you choose, and you’re also making that choice for others (although a lot of antivaxxers don’t have a problem telling others what they can and can’t do with their bodies. They only care when someone tries to apply rules to them.)

I utterly despise their smug arrogance and complete disregard for public health.

Someone should remind this jackass that fleshlights and dildos don’t secrete anything, and (hopefully) have never been used by anyone else. Just throwing it out there!

“I’ve asked you eight or nine times to show me the exact post and you’ve not been able to show me even once,” the judge told him.

The judge has found Trump’s weakness: facts that back up his hyperbole.

Seattle hospital won't turn over gender-affirming care records in lawsuit settlement with Texas (apnews.com)

This shitstain tried really hard to make a loss sound like a win. He failed miserably.

“When we merely began asking questions, [someone needs to tell him that ‘only asking questions’ has become a joke about sealioning] they decided to leave the State of Texas [I don’t understand how they could ‘leave’ when they never advertised or did business there in the first place] and forfeit the opportunity to do business here,[which was probably a very easy choice for a business based in Seattle]” Paxton said in a news release Monday.

Yes, I’m sure “communism” is why you’re estranged from your children, and It has nothing to do with the fact that you’re a narrow minded right wing nut job.

San Francisco sues Oakland over new airport name that includes 'San Francisco' (apnews.com)

San Francisco on Thursday sued Oakland after officials there voted in favor of changing the name of the city’s airport to San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport, saying the change will cause confusion and is already affecting its airport financially....

magnetosphere , (edited )
@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

If you don’t speak the local language or aren’t familiar with the area, look at a map. Ask online. Do something to cover your butt. If anyone going to any airport in the world is confused because they don’t understand the local language, then it’s their own fault for not planning their trip carefully. If I (an American) was spending hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on a plane ticket, you can be damn sure I’d triple check the name and location of the airport to be sure it was the one I wanted to go to.

Having said that, San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport is an unnecessarily confusing, cumbersome name. Come on, Oakland. You can do better.

College kids are rowdy and do crazy shit. I know I did. There’s almost certainly a racist component, but the core problem would exist even if all the college kids were white. Over 100,000 people! Yikes!
