Electric wheelchair.

Pretty much been housebound since 2018. I can walk short distances, but large stores like a grocery store or a Home Depot were out of reach unless they had their own scooters available, which were often broken, or un-charged.

Malls were out entirely. City centers? Not a chance.

The wheelchair opened all that back up to me!

Fun fact: The Supreme Court ruled in 1969 that cops do have the right to lie to you.

Counter offer: Pass a law barring people facing felony charges from running for President.

If it would keep you from owning a gun:

ATF form 4473, line 21c and d:

“c. Are you under indictment or information in any court for a felony, or any other crime for which the judge could imprison you for more than one year, or are you a current member of the military who has been charged with violation(s) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice and whose charge(s) have been referred to a general court-martial?

d. Have you ever been convicted in any court, including a military court, of a felony, or any other crime for which the judge could have imprisoned you for more than one year, even if you received a shorter sentence including probation?”

Why should you be allowed the button? 🤔

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

Assuming a corrupt system, yes. But in our current system? Not so much. Trump deserves each of his felony indictments and if it would keep him from buying a gun, which it does, it should block him from being Commander in Chief.

Greater Idaho movement: 13 counties in eastern Oregon have voted to secede and join Idaho (ktvz.com)

On Tuesday, voters in Crook County passed measure 7-86, which asked voters if they support negotiations to move the Oregon/Idaho border to include Crook County in Idaho. The measure is passing with 53% of the vote, and makes Crook County the 13th county in eastern Oregon to pass a Greater Idaho measure.

The parts of Oregon wanting this are rabidly anti-tax. The instant they find out Idaho has a 6% sales tax they’ll cry and come crawling right back.

“Texan Craig Adlong. He pleaded guilty in 2020 for lying on firearm transaction forms, saying the guns were for his personal use. He purchased 95 semi-automatic rifles at Guns Unlimited in Katy, Texas, making seven visits over two months.

Sixty-six of those firearms were recovered in Mexico, according to the leak.”

How many is too many “for personal use”?

95 guns of the same type is CLEARLY not for personal use. 13 guns per visit x 7 visits? No questions?

I can see buying multiple guns in different form factors, because they’re a tool like anything else, and you need the right size tool for the job.

But if you’re out buying 95 #0 Phillips screwdrivers, that’s not “for personal use”.

jordanlund ,

Well, rifles are rifles and pistols are pistols. The skill set downgrades pretty easy, upgrading not so much.

After shooting my .45-70 Government, a .22 pea shooter is no big deal, going the OTHER way though…

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

Hey, TIL! But I’ve never bought more than one semi-automatic rifle at a time so that tracks!

Have you seen the way gun makers are getting around that restriction now?

Nah, never shot anything more threatening than an old school metal coffee can. Just being a gun owner doesn’t make you dangerous.

I own several hammers too, doesn’t make me a carpenter. ;)

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

I mean… I had a raccoon problem, right? Mom, dad, three babies. Babies were cute, but were tearing up the place and screaming, OMG, like 1,000 cat fights every night.

But the problem was dad was getting aggressive, hanging out on the roof, and showing ZERO fear of people.

Now I COULD have picked up my grandfathers .30-06, but then the problem then would have been scraping raccoon parts off the roof and nobody has time for that.

So I went the other direction. Took my dad’s 1000fps pellet rifle and shot him in the ass. Not only did he set off running, he took mom and babies with him.

So, yeah, right tool for the job. ;)

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

I could see that. Multiples of the same gun so you could, I dunno, test one in a salt water environment, freshwater rainforest, desert, arctic, and control.

But 95? Yeah, no.

Because after 4 years and who knows how many thousands of dollars, there’s likely a contractual obligation to supply the degree.

He and another employee, Mike Harrington, left Microsoft in 1996 to found Valve, and funded the development of their first game, Half-Life (1998). Harrington left in 2000.”

Pentagon says none of the aid unloaded from US pier off coast of Gaza has been delivered to broader Palestinian population (www.cnn.com)

None of the aid that has been unloaded from the temporary pier the US constructed off the coast of Gaza has been delivered to the broader Palestinian population, as the US works with the UN and Israel to identify safe delivery routes inside the enclave, the Pentagon said on Tuesday....

In the end, it doesn’t matter how he defines it. We are signatories to the UN and the UN definition in Article II of the “Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide” is:

www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/genocide.shtml

“In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

a) Killing members of the group;

b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;

c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;

e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.”

middleeasteye.net/…/israel-mp-no-innocents-gaza-s…

“I don’t think there are any innocents there now, not now and not when I said those things,” Vaturi said.

“I urge you to do everything and use Doomsday weapons fearlessly against our enemies,” Gotliv wrote on social media platform X, calling upon Israel to use “everything in its arsenal”.

In November, Galit Distel Atbaryan, Israel’s former public diplomacy minister, called for Gaza to be “erased from the face of the Earth”, stating that the besieged enclave should be “wiped out” by a “vengeful and vicious” Israeli army.

Last week, lawmaker Moshe Saada said that widespread calls he had heard from the Israeli public to “destroy all Gazans” had proven that the “right-wing was right about the Palestinian issue”.

Being reported as sketchy information, but the basic premise of plastics being a synthetic estrogen is sound, at least as far as BPA is concerned:

breastcancer.org/…/exposure-to-chemicals-in-plast…

“BPA is a weak synthetic estrogen found in many rigid plastic products, food and formula can linings, dental sealants, and on the shiny side of paper cashier receipts (to stabilize the ink). Its estrogen-like activity makes it a hormone disruptor, like many other chemicals in plastics. Hormone disruptors can affect how estrogen and other hormones act in the body, by blocking them or mimicking them, which throws off the body’s hormonal balance. Because estrogen can make hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer develop and grow, many women choose to limit their exposure to these chemicals that can act like estrogen.

BPA also seems to affect brain development in the womb. In 2011, a study found that pregnant women with high levels of BPA in their urine were more likely to have daughters who showed signs of hyperactivity, anxiety, and depression. The symptoms were seen in girls as young as 3. It’s not clear why boys aren’t affected in the same way.”

In 2001 I was a teacher and I had my TV set to automatically turn on as my alarm clock set to the local news/traffic/weather.

So the TV turns on and it’s a plane crashing into the tower, and I’m like WTF? Why are they showing a movie? Where’s my news and traffic?

Then the 2nd plane hits and OMFG. That’s when it sinks in.

They closed Manhattan. There’s talk of a dirty bomb. Nobody knows what’s going on and Bush is flying all around like a scared bunny rabbit.

That first night, we knew we were going to war. We didn’t know with who yet, but it was clear we were going to war, and if we were super unlucky, Bush might just nuke somebody.

I didn’t sleep for a week.

The problem is they are insistant on attacking, bombing, killing, and displacing all of the innocent Palestinians in Gaza as well, because they have been at war with Palestine, not Hamas, for generations now.
