Lawsuit seeks to block Washington ‘parental rights’ initiative (washingtonstatestandard.com)

I understand why our legislature made the choice it did - so they could retain power over the bill and hopefully change it next session - but very grateful for the ACLU stepping in here to block the bill from going into effect at all. Fingers crossed they succeed in the courts.

The concept is wonderful. I do not trust Elon with that concept. I worry that many folks with high hopes of this helping them will just end up used and hurt.

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year (www.billboard.com)

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

I use Napster. I chose it way back when Spotify paid for the Rogan podcast, from a list of platforms that pay artists more. I’m not sure if that’s true any longer, but look it up! I’ve been really happy with their service. (And it’s really full circle for me, since I used their original service decades ago.)

ETA I can’t vouch for the accuracy of this site, but it says Napster is still one of the top-paying platforms. https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/f8591cc1-6b36-4cb5-8885-02d757157fa6.png

According to that site, Napster pays more. Here’s the info on TIDAL:

I think you’re confusing a wealth tax with an income tax. They’re different. As for how these wealthy people pay, it’s not up to the government to figure out how someone pays their taxes. The onus is on the taxpayer.

Imagine this, but with a sample set that can’t be easily replicated and no one believes that you didn’t doctor them somehow. Not fun.

Orange. Pure orange, yellow orange, neon, burnt. Not so much red-orange, but I do love oranges that have a bit of a pink sheen, like padparadscha sapphires.

The 'God's army' convoy traveling to Texas to stop migrants has seen a vehicle get lost, tires slashed, and someone stranded on the highway: report (www.businessinsider.com)

This headline is the opposite of clickbait. The details are amazing!

“WIRED reported that, at one point, the convoy’s main bus pulled over onto a highway shoulder and kicked out one of the passengers.

It was unclear why the man was ejected, but he was left stranded in Florence, South Carolina, without his wallet, according to details from a livestream of someone in contact with the man.”

So help them vote. Volunteer with efforts to get out the youth vote. Push for universal mail in voting where you are, or at least early voting. Help get politicians and initiatives on the ballot that they actually care about.

Shaming and complaining about the demographic you want to reach accomplishes nothing.

jennwiththesea ,

Not OP, but I’ve found that the older they get, the harder it gets. Schedules are all over the place, and they start advocating for things they want to do that don’t fit neatly into the family calendar (vs when you were able to choose everything for them).

Expectations for parents have also skyrocketed. Your “best” now is far different than what the 1990s parents were expected to deliver. And, of course, you love them and want to provide them everything they need, so you bend over backwards to make it happen. That’s what society demands, too.

I don’t have as many kids as OP, and I can’t fucking imagine wrangling five in the current world…😳
