Oh dear God.

Fires set off by Hezbollah rockets spread through northern Israel (www.reuters.com)

Israel’s parks authority said earlier on Monday that fires had already covered hundreds of acres. The national fire service said its firefighters were operating late into the night in several spots, including in the town of Kiryat Shmona, where they were trying to protect a line of houses.

The answer: unhinged passive aggression (from a nuclear armed state).

North Korea has deployed hundreds of trash balloons containing everything from used toilet paper to cigarette butts, a move it claims is in response to South Korean activists sending balloons with political pamphlets and USB drives with K-dramas.

Smart way to try and save his dying platform, and maybe even get people to pay.

Horrible because X has axed their moderation team and demonstrated an abysmal record moderating content. Add in the much higher stakes and complexity of moderating adult content and it’s a recipe for disaster.

Donors raise $233,000 to give US cart pusher, 90, chance at retirement (www.theguardian.com)

As an outsider, I just don’t understand what his appeal could be. Is it like a Trump thing? Is he just extremely popular with a core group of gullible fanatics, or is he actually doing something to help his followers?

gedaliyah OP ,

I’m sure that the radical right will take this all in context and not use it to mobilize their racist philosophy.

This is actually a really famous and interesting copyright case that established some important bounds of copyright. How much of an artist’s intent is necessary to claim copyright? Can an artist set up a situation in which some creative product is produced?

There is actually a lot of animal photography that is dependent on the animal itself to trigger the camera, such as trail photos or even those cute photos of squirrels interacting with dollhouse furniture like tiny little humans. There is a lot of meticulous planning, experimentation, and patience that goes into “spontaneous” photographs.

Is cloudflare breaking the internet or fixing it?

I am a plebe who doesn’t understand these things but what exactly does cloudflare do? I see it popping up more and more often redirecting before visiting a site. I assume that this has something to do with bot traffic? It seems like every mention of cloudflare is about how it ruined someone’s day.

Biden's Gaza plan 'not a good deal' but Israel accepts it, Netanyahu aide says (www.reuters.com)

Netanyahu is under pressure to keep his coalition government intact. Two far-right partners have threatened to bolt in protest at any deal they deem to spare Hamas. A centrist partner, ex-general Benny Gantz, wants the deal considered. Hamas has provisionally welcomed the Biden initiative.

Tens of thousands rally in Tel Aviv to demand hostage deal, denounce government (www.timesofisrael.com)

“Last night, we received a reminder of what a real leader looks like, who cares for Israel’s future and not his own. How can they drive back Russian forces if they can’t act against military targets behind enemy lines? Seems to be an unnecessary limitation as this point.

gedaliyah ,
@gedaliyah@lemmy.world avatar

US and EU as far as I know. I guess it has to do with treaties and policies about proxy wars. If a country sends weapons to another country and tells that contrary to attack a third country, I think it’s considered an act of war from the country that sent the weapons. IANAL

Edit: especially considering that Russia has long since claimed that Ukraine is just a pawn of the West

gedaliyah ,
@gedaliyah@lemmy.world avatar

The Biden administration had held targets inside Russia off limits to U.S.-supplied weapons. The fear had been that Russian President Vladimir Putin would then seek to widen the war to Ukraine’s neighbors. Or, an even more grim possibility: Russia unleashing tactical nuclear weapons in combat.

But Russian battlefield gains in recent weeks near Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, seem to have changed the adminstration’s approach.

I’d guess that the district was looking for a reason and found this violation of their procedures to deny the space as an excuse. There’s a chance that the lawsuit exposes some messeges or emails that reveal the true intention.

You can also research their endorsements. Does a candidate have endorsements from local unions, newspaper, other public servants? Do you trust the endorser?

As you continue to vote and follow these local elections, you will get better at learning about them. The best thing to do is to be involved yourself. If you become active with civic organizations, you’ll be more connected to what is happening with local leadership (churches, cleanup groups, food bank, trade groups, etc.). Basically see if you can volunteer wherever you usually donate locally.

gedaliyah ,

Thank you for mentioning experience. Voting on local elections is basically being in charge of a job interview. In a lot of cases, their stance on policy issues matters far less than their ability to do the job well.
