Israel has offered multiple ceasefire deals, as has Hamas. They were only able to agree on one and only for a short period.

The Dreamers of a decade ago are today teachers, nurses, journalists, lawyers — but still lack US citizenship (english.elpais.com)

The DREAM Act was introduced in Congress in August 2001, and has still not been approved. This law would allow 3.5 million undocumented young people who arrived in America as minors to regularize their situation...

I’m not an anti-Biden person at all, but this was one of the things that there dems should have been able to move on. Biden supposedly was one of the architects of the DREAMERS program so I really thought that he would be able to do more. We still need a path to citizenship!

I feel like linking is one of the things that is still pretty broken in the fediverse. I’m not sure it’s fixable. Ideally, any link would open in a chosen app, on my home instance. And I don’t use the same instance for Lemmy, Masto, etc.

Tailgating is actually pretty easy to measure - there are specific patterns of braking and acceleration.

Innatention may be measurable too. For example, if an inattentive driver frequently drifts from the center of the lane and makes small quick corrections periodically, that would be apparent from accelerometer data.

Pixelfed looks like they are doing a huge push to get up to speed. It has been an immature app/platform for a long time and slow to get the features that people need from a photo sharing social media.

According to their mastodon, they are working for better AI management features, and launching an app that will make it a genuinely positive experience.

gedaliyah ,
@gedaliyah@lemmy.world avatar

the crowdfunding/patronage of this platform only helps them build their proprietary empire. It’s like giving money to your neighbor who wants to build a swimming pool on their property because they promise you’ll be able to swim in it.

No, quite the opposite. Gantz is considered a moderating force in the coalition who probably prevented a lot of Palestinian deaths due to his measured approach. His main point of pressure was that Bibi has absolutely no plan for transitioning to a post-war Gaza. Someone will have to be in charge of governance and reconstruction, and that plan has to begin now. Bibi has avoided the question because there is really no good option. It’s politically savvy to let the situation devolve further into crisis.

Gantz leaving weakens Netanyahu but also strengthens the far right ministers. In the short run, this is probably a bad thing, but could be good if it triggers new elections and ends Bibi’s career.

Inside Israel, he is considered the ultimate political pragmatist. It’s what his supporters love about him and what his detractors most despise. He will do anything to maintain his power and he is extremely effective at this.

Israel’s obstruction of investigation into 7 October rape allegations risks truth never being found, advocates warn (www.middleeastmonitor.com)

Israel’s leadership is pushing the allegations that Hamas fighters raped Israeli women during the October 7 attacks for its own political objectives while the government’s ongoing refusal to allow the United Nations to conduct a full investigation into the matter threatens to hinder any evidence, advocates have warned.

Israeli minister Benny Gantz expected to announce exit from Netanyahu's coalition (www.axios.com)

Gantz’s move wouldn’t bring down Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition, which still holds a 64-member majority in the Knesset. But it would likely destabilize the government and exacerbate the political crisis in Israel as the war in Gaza continues and as hostage and ceasefire negotiations are ongoing.

Good. Now if we could just get some legislation in place. A corporation should not be allowed to own and rent out a residential property. Price speculators have ruined the market.

gedaliyah ,
@gedaliyah@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe a maximum number of units or progressive federal tax rates on property values? It seems like there are a lot more options for legislation than the nothing we’ve tried so far.

Incentivizing absent landlord venture capitalists to gobble up all the property has been pretty disastrous.
