Mine is actually very easily removable. The device overheats so much, that it’s completely annihilated the glue, and now the back panel is only held down by the case c:

dinckelman ,

I would generally agree with you, if it could allow you to sign-in on multiple devices, and share message history. I understand why it doesn’t do either one, but it does cripple the experience

I purchased an M1 MBP with the intention of eventually installing Asahi on it, but honestly I’m satisfied with macOS when it comes to my work needs. I primarily use my laptop to write code and watch occasionally watch anime, and it does that great. Still have a lot of complaints about how locked-down macOS is, but it is what it is

Brands that don't buy enough Twitter ads will lose verification (www.theverge.com)

Starting August 7th, advertisers that haven’t reached certain spending thresholds will lose their official brand account verification. According to emails obtained by the WSJ, brands need to have spent at least $1,000 on ads within the prior 30 days or $6,000 in the previous 180 days to retain the gold checkmark identifying...

If I were a business that is under threat of this, my response would be “ok.”. No business that actually cares about its image should promote on a website that’s filled to the brim with bigots and nazis

dinckelman ,

Google engineers are making my chances of using a Chromium-based browser (near) impossible

dinckelman ,

At the moment, I login on kbin.social and lemmy.world interchangeably, since both are growing, and both are kind of unstable, but thankfully I can read the exact same posts on both. Will probably settle on one of these, or a different one eventually

Yes, and yes

My family plan increased by 3$ in the last 3 years alone, but my experience didn’t improve by 3$

dinckelman ,

I love OSS and use all kinds of software extensively, but personally, I’m not the type of person to completely eliminate everything proprietary out of principle. If it genuinely improves my experience, I’ll almost certainly switch. Otherwise it’s a toss-up

dinckelman ,

Usually I would have said that this rebrand is amongst the hall of fame entrees, side by side with MAX (former HBO Max), but given that it’s Musk we’re talking about, the platform is already dead anyway

dinckelman ,

Artists now get even less money, ironically. They’re strongly pushing towards this system where the algos will push your songs to users, resulting in some amount of more listens, except the downside is that you cut your own pay. If you’re signed on a label, you get even less than nothing now

I’m a Plasma on Wayland enjoyer, running a 1080ti, and pretty much every bug I’ve encountered since I’ve started using Linux has been resolved. There’s probably some stuff I don’t know about, purely because it doesn’t affect me, but it’s been smooth sailing here

dinckelman ,

I strongly believe that this should be the standard everywhere. Unfortunately most governments won’t tell you this, because a few of them are busy building golden temples for their authoritarian leaders, and blowing half of it on cocaine while pretending it’s the immigrants’ faults

I’ve grown to really dislike Nic’s videos lately. Aside from promos that take up 1/3 of the video, a lot of the opinions and recommendations are completely baseless. It’s practically equivalent to the Verge making tech posts, except the person has no experience with it whatsoever.

The one that put it over the edge for me recently was the distribution tierlist, which recommended a lot of stuff criminally broken stuff as beginner friendly, purely by what color the DE was

I’ve been subscribed to 1Password for around 8 years now, and don’t intend to cancel it any time. It’s super convenient, updated frequently, and seems to be audited independently to ensure security too. Just recently they’ve added a few features that make my life as a developer with multiple machines so much easier. OTP on every logged in device too, so I don’t need to constantly migrate the horrible Authy setups, or whatever else people use

Linux for Microsoft Surface devices. It is reality! (cloudblogs.microsoft.com)

I would like to share with you a very cool project that develops drivers for correct operation of Microsoft Surface devices on Linux. I myself use Surface Pro 6 with these drivers and everything works like a charm (battery life is good, cameras work, stylus, keyboard, touchscreen, screen). The developers are gods. From myself, I...

It’s actually pretty funny. Back around 2018 I bought an XPS13, being hailed as the golden standard of linux support on a laptop, and my buddy bought a Surface Pro (3 or 4, cant remember). With these patches, his machine not only ran better, but also had 4x the battery life, compared to my fully supported (on paper) machine

TIL Alice Walton (Walmart heir) killed a pedestrian in a driving accident and was never charged. She has also been arrested for DUI twice but never charged. (en.wikipedia.org)

The sketchy part is not her not getting convicted. It’s that no charges were even filed. I also enjoyed this bit of info from one of the sources regarding the other DUI incident. Prosecutors in Texas have dropped a 2011 drunken driving citation against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. heiress Alice Walton.

If anything, justice doesn’t come if you can pay the price

dinckelman ,

Get the manager here, download the youtube apk of the version it recommends, and choose the patches you want. No guide needed

dinckelman ,

My biggest concern with Firefox is that Google continues to make people’s life hard. There have already been instances of things loading slowly because of crippled standards that only work on Chrome, or features like in-page translate only being available in Chromium based browsers.

Overall I’ve really enjoyed using it for the past 15 years or so, but it’s definitely had periods of very rocky performance

dinckelman ,

I’ve tried basically every reasonably maintained distribution, and keep coming back to Arch. It just feels right. And it just works right too. The package manager is excellent, and that is one of the things that makes or breaks any distribution for me. I also love that it comes with nothing, so you know what you get, and it’ll be setup how you want it. With other major distributions, I spend a considerable amount of time removing things first, which is something I just don’t want to do.

I’ve been trying out NixOS recently. I really appreciate what it is trying to do, but the complexity of nix-command is quite overwhelming

dinckelman ,

At a certain point I’ve heard that being a developer on Linux just feels more comfortable, and I’ve decided to give it a shot. Never looked back since then. My enjoyment of using a computer skyrocketed, and it gave me flexibility to do a lot of things I couldn’t do properly before

dinckelman ,

I’ve used both for an extensive amount of time, and found Plex to be superior in basically every way. It’s both nicer to use, and the library is a bit easier to manage. Not to mention all the back-end things you might want to use if you’re heavy into video usage

dinckelman ,

I totally get that tbh. The app keeps giving me notifications for recommendations of shit from services I never even connected. I use this exclusively for my local media

dinckelman ,

Can’t really blame them for stability tbh. Not only lemmy is experiencing a massive influx of new users trying to do things, but it’s also user-hosted, without a real monetization strategy. I’m impressed it’s as good as it is, and is still trying to become better

dinckelman ,

I am fully open to people running everything collecting donations. Or even sponsorships are cool. Straight up monetization through making users pay for shit that doesn’t give anything in return is not cool. Let alone the fact that users make all the content to begin with

dinckelman ,

Convenience fee for the convenience of making that shit right up

dinckelman ,

I am incredibly happy to see this. Boost has been my absolutely favorite choice for a very long time
