Such a neat piece of software, I remember streaming internet radio (somafm) and trying out different skins on my windows xp laptop back in the early 2000’s and just feeling like the cyberpunk future had arrived. Milkdrop was my gateway drug. Fun seeing it make a comeback, I hope it develops a healthy community and we get some good software out of it. Internet drama be damned.

barkingspiders ,

You are incredible, thank you so much for sharing!

Threw a wrestling watch party, made special food, and was very disappointed in the outcome. (lemmy.world)

So as you can see in the picture, I threw a party last year. AEW is a pro wrestling company, much like WWE. They had this big outdoor show at Wembley Stadium in London. Sold something like 80,000 tickets. We watched live on PPV....

barkingspiders ,

Seriously, some solid snack game there, they fucking missed out

barkingspiders ,

Seriously, this was pretty cool, thanks for sharing!

barkingspiders ,

Well we certainly appreciate it, thank you for your service tonight

barkingspiders ,

The headline and the contents seem to be very different. Am I having a flashback?

I made a local APT repository that automatically fetches DEBs and AppImages from anywhere

On Debian-based distros, when an app is available as a DEB or an AppImage (that doesn’t self-update), but no APT repository, PPA or Flatpak, the only option is to manually download each update, and usually manually check even whether there are updates....

barkingspiders ,

Also drive Manjaro and I tell people I use Arch, there are dozens of us

barkingspiders ,

I’ve been a big fan of Manjaro for exactly that reason. Something breaks occasionally and gives my skills a run for their money but a lot of the difficulty of running a rolling release gets nullified by the testing Manjaro does for you. It’s a great compromise, you get almost bleeding edge for much less work than an arch installation can take.

I love me some Debian for their stability and security, I run Debian or Debian based servers mostly. But I wanted something closer to the bleeding edge for my desktop so I could make use of newer features, run newer packages etc…

barkingspiders ,

I think this is what the kids call “critical reading abilities”

Thanks for providing a strong counterpoint to the click bait narrative, here’s a prize 🏆

barkingspiders ,

Same, I stream using the airplay protocol from my Lyrion Music Server and haven’t had to touch their app since they arrived. If they fuck with that though so help me god I will write the nastiest things about them on the internets.

barkingspiders ,

I didn’t realize this, didn’t get enough press. Another notch in Biden’s belt, that’s fantastic!

barkingspiders ,

Right there with ya.

barkingspiders ,

I think it is measured and professionals who work in areas where this was relevant probably track this number among many others. I think the real question you are asking is why it is always framed as a % of GDP in public discussion and news reporting. Some people here point out how % of GDP can be more useful for comparing across countries with vastly different sized economies but I think we all know the real answer has more to do with how people perceive the value differently by using the larger number. Framing government debt as a % of GDP serves the zeitgeist, whatever that is.

barkingspiders ,

I got upset about this as a child. Years of adults of telling me that the moon was a night only thing and it was all lies.

Against all odds, an asteroid mining company (AstroForge) appears to be making headway (arstechnica.com)

On Tuesday the co-founders announced that they have successfully raised $40 million in Series A funding and shared plans for their next two missions. AstroForge has now raised a total of $55 million to date....

barkingspiders ,

I understand this reference and I approve o7

barkingspiders ,

Haven’t enjoyed the Hularama episodes much until this one. Felt like they managed to land closer to home this time. Maybe we’ll get some episodes we’ll be proud to call Futurama 🤞.

barkingspiders ,

i also use arch btw this some ai shit isn’t it

barkingspiders ,

Not a generic AI hater, just kinda pointing out how this is some generic soulless music. Posts like this used to mean someone spent hours and hours writing the song, recording it or producing it etc… Now it’s a subscription and a prompt. Just not the same, even if I hadn’t liked the song I would have respected the work but now, I dunno.

Anyway. I gotta give props here for the visuals though, someone clearly put time in there and I appreciated it.

barkingspiders ,

There’s absolutely a place for generated music. I have no doubt I’ll be bobbing my head to some ai beats before long. I think I was just bemoaning the changing of the things. Effort in the cause of good and beauty should always be rewarded.

barkingspiders ,

Got my new phone budget two weeks ago and I’ve been waiting to see if the new pixel was worth it or if I should just buy a oneplus 12. The camera on the oneplus’s are never as good but all the other pixel features seem so meh usually. Especially that battery life, why can’t they just stick a bigger battery in these things.

barkingspiders ,

Yeah that looks like a no for me holmes. The ai features don’t tickle my pickle and while it’s still probably the best camera out there I crave that battery life more. MKBHD already dropped his initial reviews as well for what that’s worth.

I will happily take this opportunity to complain

/startrant that the abandonment of couch co-op is the worst thing to ever happen to gaming. There are some great couch co-op games out there, BUT NOT NEARLY ENOUGH. Seriously, the number of goddamn games that expect you to HAVE TWO COMPUTER AND TWO SCREENS SO YOU CAN PLAY CO-OP WITH SOMEONE ELSE IS TOO DAMN HIGH. /endrant

I highly recommend Broforce, any of the Larian studio games (Divinity Original Sin, Baldur’s Gate 3 etc…), Battleblock Theater, Castle Crashers, Cuphead, For The King, Hypercharge Unboxed, It Takes Two, Portal 2, Overcooked, SpiritFarer, Stardew Valley, Untitled Goose Game, Wobbly Life. Wish there were more.

It is the damndest shame that the Halo Master Chief Collection doesn’t have local co-op, still upsets me to this day.

barkingspiders ,

I work in this field and I think this is 🔥 af

barkingspiders ,

your pipe-pane command was real neat, I appreciate you sharing!

I get frustrated with the default ESC delay so I use set -sg escape-time 0

I re-bind the bind-keys without the default -r to avoid switching panes, hitting $DIRECTION arrow and going to the next pane $DIRECTION instead of my intent to move the cursor or view history etc…

bind-key Up select-pane -U
bind-key Down select-pane -D
bind-key Left select-pane -L
bind-key Right select-pane -R

lastly, I really like these plugins

set -g @plugin 'tmux-plugins/tpm'
set -g @plugin 'tmux-plugins/tmux-sensible'
set -g @plugin 'Morantron/tmux-fingers'
set -g @plugin 'tmux-plugins/tmux-resurrect'
set -g @resurrect-capture-pane-contents 'on'

come on people, show us your filthy tmux conf

barkingspiders ,

Gah, haven’t had to think about my tmux conf in like 5 years but here we go. This was quite the writeup, thanks for looking!

You appear to be exactly right about set -sg escape-time 0. I don’t think it’s ever caused me an issue but I am fortunate to have a very homogeneous environment and it looks like the tmux team circumvented me anyway. As of tmux 3.4:

If escape-time is 0, force to 1 instead

github.com/…/201a8d8e7eb0bf208918c698e64aa120864c…

and related discussion: github.com/wez/wezterm/issues/2060#issuecomment-1…

The only time I’ve been bit by the TERM value from tmux-sensible is when logging into junos boxes. In which case I need to export TERM=xterm-256color or arrow keys don’t work (among other things). Per the docs:

github.com/tmux/tmux/wiki/FAQ#why-do-you-use-the-…

I might try tmux-256color for a bit and see how it goes.

Anyway, appreciate the breakdown and the suggestions!

I caught that technomage reference, for those who don’t know I believe they also post in this community

lemmy.sdf.org/c/unix_surrealism

barkingspiders ,

I mean there are dozens of us here 😆. But seriously, I know I’m not as stoked about the new seasons, it’s just not the same. It’s a bit weird seeing the resurrected corpse of one of your favorite shows stumbling around and repeating jokes it used to tell.

barkingspiders ,

ss -tulpn was a welcome find for me. I have it memorized for netstat and dislike always having to install it on a new box, very handy tool

barkingspiders ,

This is the bravest comment I’ve seen today, you deserve an internet prize 🏆

barkingspiders ,

This community can be whatever it wants to be. If you want to advocate for violence you are free to do that elsewhere in the fediverse. Just not here.

barkingspiders ,

This is the first time I’ve seen this still used as a meme and it’s fantastic. Two thumbs up, also, fuck Rudy Giuliani.

barkingspiders ,

Fantastic, I know this probably won’t go anywhere but this is the right thing to do regardless. SCOTUS needs to be held accountable to the American people for their actions. We grant them extraordinary power and that must come with extraordinary accountability. Holding them to a lower standard than any judge in a lesser court is ridiculous. The higher the court, the higher the standards should be.

barkingspiders ,

Reminds me of the first time I put too much garlic salt in my tuna salad. I could taste it for days 😂

barkingspiders ,

I am a little biased because I’ve been using Debian professionally for many years now but we don’t deserve Debian. It is fantastically stable and reliable and makes an excellent platform for running your services off of. If you are at all interested in offering some time and energy to the open source community, consider adopting a Debian package!

seems like a good thread to plug represent.us

they describe themselves as

RepresentUs is America’s leading nonpartisan anti-corruption organization fighting to fix our broken and ineffective government. We unite people across the political spectrum to pass laws that hold corrupt politicians accountable, defeat special interests, and force the government to meet the needs of the American people.

here’s their policy platform represent.us/policy-platform/

they claim to have played a part in over 185 pieces of legislation (mostly at the state level) that contributed to their core platform represent.us/our-wins/

here are their ongoing campaigns presented state by state represent.us/2024-campaigns/

nobody and no organization are perfect but I feel like most people can find something to agree on here

I’m not gonna dispute that QoL seems to be dropping in the US but statements like this one in the article:

Personal safety has become an increasing concern for many Americans, with rising crime rates and social unrest contributing to a sense of insecurity.

Really highlights how this is a propaganda puff piece in itself. Whatever it’s selling, this bit is silly fearmongering. Actual crime did seem to spike during the height of the covid response but has since continued it’s drop to historic lows. America was significantly worse off crimewise in the 80s. We are living in some of the most crime-free years this country has seen since we started tracking the numbers. And now, unlike this article, I will post some fucking sources.

Wish that this somehow translated to the people in charge of the shitshow being replaced, but I’m pretty sure it’s the workers who will suffer instead. This failure is 1000% on an executive culture of “cut corners so line goes up”, not the thousands of people who actually build the darn things.
