The problem is it’s actually is sorta Boeing’s fuck up here. The questionable source titanium was caught at spirit aerospace who manufactures parts for Boeing and airbus. Spirit aerospace was originally a Boeing factory that was spun off into its own company in 2005 in one of Boeing idiodic stock pump schemes. Boeing on paper does not have control over spirit aerospace but all of spirit’s leadership came from Boeing with their CEO having worked for Boeing for 31 years. Boeing also has a lot of pull inside spirit being their largest customer by a significant margin. Boeing is currently in talks of buying back spirit aerospace to fix the mess they got themselves into.

While others suggested adding the DNS records manually the far more secure and easier in the long term solution is to run pihole with unbound. Going this route completely eliminates third party upstream DNS servers as unbound will query the top level domain for their authoritative name server and direct the IP address from the source. Pihole has a great explanation on their website. I like crosstalk solutions on setting it up as it’s has everything you need just to copy paste your way into it working.

I really hope Pharmacist and doctors take the CDC’s recommendations seriously because it’s the complete opposite right now especially with pharmacy/pharmacist. The fact the CDC has to remind the pharmacist that you can transfer a schedule ii medication is really sad. There are way too many Pharmacists out there who like to hold your prescription hostage when they are out because “you might be a drug seeker”.

You999 ,

Under very specific circumstances what circumstances? The DEA’s regulations is pretty cut and dry. A patient can request the transfer of a schedule II prescription on a one-time basis.

Also how is it that “the majority of pharmacies do not have the appropriate functionality within their software to do so.” when NCPDP’s SCRIPT standard version 2017071 has that feature according to the DEA and NCPDP and version 2017071 is required if the pharmacy accept Medicaid which a CDC paper says is 90% of pharmacies outside of small rural areas…

Anything using vanguard such as valorant and league of legends, battleye such as pubg, destiny 2, and rainbow 6 siege, and easy anti cheat such as fortnight blocks virtual machines. Vanguard is especially bad because it will not allow to run the game with Intel-VT/AMD-V enabled even if you are running bare metal as of its last update.

You999 ,

I think the safe option would be to use a smart UPS and Network UPS Tools to shutdown the LLM virtual machine when it’s running on battery. I do something similar with my NAS as it’s running on an older dell R510 so when the UPS goes onto battery it’ll safely shut down that whole machine to extend how long my networking gear will stay powered.

You999 ,

wanted to implement something like that with my 1920R UPS for my rack but haven’t found the time to commit to antiquated hardware.

Was enough of a hassle dealing with the expired SSL certs on the management card yet getting software running on one of my machines to communicate with the UPS.

Honestly you should just bypass dells management software and use NUT. It supports your UPS’s management card if you enable SNMP or you can bypass it all together and just run off of the USB/serial.

All things considered my two servers chilling chew around 60w on average, not taking into account my POE cameras or other devices. The UPS should run for over a day without getting close to draining its batteries (have a half populated ebm too).

I’m pretty surprised I can run my whole network for an hour off of my 1500va UPS with three switches and a handful of POE devices. I’m still thinking about replacing it with a rack mount unit so i can lock it inside my rack as I’ve been having issues with unauthorized people messing with it.

Titanium is such a unique metal to machine that anyone could tell if it wasn’t actually titanium. The only way you could get away with passing off another metal as titanium is if you had a massive fraud conspiracy spanning from the contractors/subcontractors all the way up to the aerospace manufacturers. Not to say it would be impossible but there would need to be a lot of corrupt people involved.

Pre roll and post roll ads would be pretty easy to detect since the length of the actual video is fixed. Mid roll ads though will need something more clever.

Any idea what that MOW truck is for? The second cab in the rear is really throwing me off.

If it was just for towing it wouldnt have a cab in the rear like that.

Eh this is to be expected seeing how nvidia handles their architecture. For the last few generations nvidia has designed their architecture around the enterprise world’s needs with gaming being an after thought. The fact is their gaming GPUs are defective enterprises GPUs not to say that’s a bad thing but nvidia does not sell any GeForce GPUs that utilizes the full die. Simply put the enterprise world is all in on AI workloads and ROPs do not benefit those workloads so why would Nvidia dedicate precious silicon to an after thought?

TSA literally says on their own website that they are not looking for drugs and will only report it to the police if it’s blatant.

TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs, but if any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer.

Ubiquiti unifi: pretty preformant while being dead simple to set up. No licensing fees but upfront price is steep. If you really get into networking you will find their hardware and software stack limiting especially if you need speeds greater than 25 gigabit.

Mikrotik: single handedly the best value out there. Their OSes can be confusing at times and you may need some CLI skills to do everything but it’s a good learning platform.

Opensense: highly flexible where you can tailor your experience to exactly what you need. If you are the type of person who wants all of the bells and whistle along with fine granulated controls this is your option.

Openwrt: a good choice if you already own a supported device but I personally wouldn’t go out and buy hardware for openwrt when opnsense is a better option.

Cisco: there are two types of people who buy Cisco, those who are obtaining their CCNA and those who have their CCNA.

tp-link omada: directly marketed as a ubiquiti unifi competitor but cheaper. Being a new line of products it’s not really time tested. I’ve heard very polarizing opinions on them so your milage may vary.

meraki: Cisco’s other brand. Sometimes you can get their hardware for free because they make all of their money off of the licensing fees.

I work for the railroad and it’s a very similar story. The way we treat people in the transportation industry is unsustainable and frankly quite dangerous. Having to be on call six days a week with no guarantee if you even are going to be home on the seventh really makes you feel like a second class citizen. At one point in time these types of jobs were appealing because the pay and benefits more than made up for the abusive work schedule but now you are lucky if your pay increases even cover the cost of inflation. I’m sure the airline unions have the same issues the railroad unions have where benifits get widdled away as those with seniority sell out the new hires for deals that only benefit those already employed. Our unions have been doing that for such a long period of time it’s almost unfathomable to hear what benifits we used to have.

You999 ,

I’ve posted about this before so I’m just going to copy it here

No, vehicles have gotten larger because of the same problem as most of the issues in the United States: politics!

You see automobile manufacturers have to meet an average fuel economy across their entire fleet under the CAFE (Corporate average fuel economy) act of 1975. CAFE was a good idea as it forced the auto industry into actually improving on fuel economy year after year throughout their entire fleet or be met with steep fines for ever 0.1mpg off the target.

In 2011 CAFE was changed which directly caused the auto market we have today. See in 2011 the formula on how you’d calculate your fleet’s avarage MPG got changed to now factor in vehicle footprint as a variable which auto manufactures quickly caught on to mean the larger a vehicle is the smaller their entire fleet’s MPG has to be.

On top of that in 2012 “medium-duty trucks” was added as their own category with a lower MPG requirement meaning if your truck or SUV fell into that category then you would have a smaller MPG target for your entire fleet.

Now put yourself into the shoes of an early 2010s auto manufacture, would you rather design small and light vehicles that require you to meet a pretty high fuel economy level across your entire product range or would you inflate the size of your vehicles and move all R&D into finding ways to get your entire fleet classified as a medium-duty truck/SUV with a smaller MPG requirement? Of course you are going to take the latter.

The changes to CAFE in the 2010s killed small vehicles as we knew it. Ensured light duty trucks stayed dead domestically built or chicken tax be dammed. Caused the explosion of crossover SUVs to flood the market. All while making vehicles more dangerous and worse for the environment.

If only Microsoft required a second prossesor like some sort of module just for encrypting and decrypting things without using additional CPU cycles… What if we also stored the encryption keys on that module so we could trust that platform

You999 , (edited )

How old of a system are you running because TPM have been included on CPUs since at least 2009. Microsoft requiring something already built into modern CPU isn’t the reason why CPUs cost more now.

You999 ,

The version that windows requires does not matter as I was making the point that we’ve been dedicating silicon for TPM for a pretty long time now and that there’s no corelation between Microsoft’s requirements and the recent CPU cost increase.

TPM 1.2 was deployed on most x86-based client PCs from 2005 on, began to appear on servers around 2008, and eventually appeared on most servers.

In the US I can comfirm both GE (freight and passenger) and siemens passenger locomotives run Linux. Some passenger trainsets/cars still run embedded XP.

Pretty much all locomotives running out there today have a plethora of computers for managing fuel economy, brakes, and positive train control (rules compliance). Fun fact: the union pacific’s 4104 ‘big boy’ steam engine was fitted with wabtec’s I-ETMS PTC which is powered by Linux so there’s literally a steam powered locomotive running Linux.

Is cloudflare breaking the internet or fixing it?

I am a plebe who doesn’t understand these things but what exactly does cloudflare do? I see it popping up more and more often redirecting before visiting a site. I assume that this has something to do with bot traffic? It seems like every mention of cloudflare is about how it ruined someone’s day.

You999 ,

But the DDoS protection and attack prevention is mostly snake-oil for most people.

I wouldn’t say it’s snake oil for most people because of how cheap it costs to execute a DDoS attack, all it takes is for you to piss off one person for it to be worth it. Although you do not have to use cloudflare there are plenty of other protection services out there.

And a side note, I can’t believe how hard it is to find statistics on how many DDoS attacks have happened that’s not from someone with a vested interest in the matter. I’d figure the FBI/IC3 or CISA would have better statistics on the matter.

You999 ,

We have been here before. I don’t remember who made it but there’s a really good video on YouTube explaining why better help started another massive ad campaign on YouTube. Better help was involved with a fraudulent doctor finder website that was directing people to better help. That website got shutdown by the FTC just before better help increased YouTube funding so the hypothesis is they are trying to recoup that lost income because it was a significant revenue source.

You999 ,

Ultraviolet would be a terrible idea as UV-A and UV-B can cause skin cancer over prolonged exposure and UV-C will straight up burn your eyes and skin.

You999 ,

For 12k a month just the DDoS protection would be worth it for a site of that nature and size but they also get CDN access with full control over the caching, and a web application firewall.

The way I see it the casino was trying to plate share at a buffet and got caught so now they are complaining about having to pay the correct amount.

One of my hobbies is hosting raves and I’ve heard a lot of stories from venue owners about live nation/ticket master. They work a lot like the mafia where if you don’t accept their terms they will do everything in their power to shut you down. They will do stuff like scheduling large names shows to conflict with your key events while also ‘influencing’ the local officials to pull your liquid license. I 100% agree that they should be broken up but I would go a step further and also split off their promoter sector that way ticketing, venues, and events are all separate entities that cannot completely control the market.

You999 ,

Both. Live nation either owns the venue or has an exclusive contract with the venue. If you run a venue and you do not parter with live nation they will run you out of business.

You999 ,

I work for a railroad and also own a Tesla. FSD doesn’t actually know what a train is at all. If you watch the visualization while in FSD you’ll see trains as a long string of semi trucks and it sees the crossing arms as flashing red stop lights (ie treat like stop sign).

You999 ,

So many long distance delivery trucks take the same route across the country. Why don’t we just string them all together, then have one big-ass truck engine in the front pulling it all? And to save on how big the motor needs to be, we’ll have steel on steel contact to reduce friction. Whoops, you’ve got a train all of a sudden. 😅

Get out of here with your crazy ideas…

And the FBI confiscated their cellphones and other methods of communication?

The FBI did seize their phones but the crew has received new phones from aid groups along with a Hotspot that was provided awhile ago.

Why the fuck are poor foreign workers being treated like that when we’re letting the company almost completely off the hook?

The crew has been stuck on the ship because they are essential to the recovery process. The crew knows how to operate the ship and all of it’s machinery. They’ve been responsible for keeping pumps on board the ship running and ensuring there’s no flooding as the clean up goes on.

The real question is now that the ship is back at a berth and in a position where only a skeleton crew is needed why hasn’t the US granted any emergency visas to the crew so they can start rotating shore leave?

You999 ,

Looking at what happened to every Zeppelin that Ferdinand von Zeppelin built you start to get a good picture on why it’s maybe not the best idea. I got to hand it to him though, dudes got dedication.

LZ1: damaged during initial flight, repaired and flown two more times before investors backed out causing the ship to be sold for scrap.

LZ2: suffered double engine failure and crashed into a mountain. While anchored to the mountain awaiting repairs a storm destroyed it beyond repair.

LZ3: built from salvaged parts of LZ2. Severally damaged in storm. After LZ4’s destruction LZ3 was repaired and was accepted by the German military who eventually scrapped it.

LZ4: suffered from chronic engine failure. While repairing the engines a gust of wind blew the ship free of its mooring and struck a tree causing the ship to ignite and burn to the ground.

LZ5: destroyed in a storm.

LZ6: destroyed in its hanger by fire.

LZ7: destroyed after crashing in a thunderstorm.

LZ8: destroyed by wind.

LZ9: this one actually worked and survived for three years before being decommissioned.

LZ10: caught on fire and destroyed after a gust of wind blew its mooring line into itself.

LZ11: destroyed while attempting to move the ship into it’s hanger

LZ12 & LZ13: both flew successful careers before being decommissioned a few years later.

LZ14: destroyed in a thunderstorm.

LZ15: destroyed during an emergency landing.

LZ16: was stolen by the French.

LZ17: decommissioned after the war.

LZ18: exploded during its test flight.

LZ19: damaged beyond repair during an emergency landing.

LZ129: the Hindenburg.

LZ127: retired and scrapped after flying over a million miles.

LZ130: flew 30 flights before being dismantled for parts to aid in the war effort.

Mold is actually the biggest concern with the most popular archival format LTO. EMPs aren’t that much of a concern. Bit flips and bit rot are your main concerns traditionally when using flash for archival storage. It’s recommended if you go the flash route to keep your array hot (ie powered on) and use a file system with data scrubbing capabilities such as ZFS.

The obvious awnser would be VR and AR where the faster the refresh rate is the less likely you are to get motion sick. A display with a refresh rate that high would be displaying a frame every millisecond meaning if the rest of the hardware could keep up a headset using this display would be able to properly display the micro movements your head makes.

I’m pretty sure that spare tire is only there for the joke. With off roading tires that large they are almost definitely bead lock tires which can be ran at very low PSI without risk of the tire departing the rim. On top of that the tread is much thicker meaning punctures have to go deeper before they cause problems and most of the time came be fixed by simple plugs.

Not to mention the logistics of changing a spare on a tire of that size. A bottle jack is completely out of the question and you wouldn’t be able to use a farm jack safety with the body that high. Even if you could how are you going to get that wheel onto the studs when it weighs over 300Lb?

They are some help from the Seafarer ministry which is who is supplying the crew with food, toiletries, wifi, and even bought the crew new phone to replace the ones seized by the FBI. Ambassadors from the India and Sri Lanka embassies have also visited the crew so I wouldn’t be surprised if visas will be granted once the ship is back at a berth.

The feds aren’t banning them but there’s a 25% tarrif on importing them because of the chicken tax tarrif.
