I’d love to see a suit like this brought in the US specifically a state like Oregon where you have the right to use beaches.

You999 ,

This is literally nonsense fear mongering by someone who doesn’t understand how electronics and electronic repair work.

You999 ,

One of two options, a complete failure of understanding on how find your device works and the inaccuracies involved on both the police department and judges side or maliciously misrepresentating the accuracy of the technology by the police department.

New bridges are built with protections such as pylons to prevent ships from even getting close to bumping into the bridge after the sunshine skyway bridge collapse of 1980.

You999 , (edited )

I disagree, the geometry of protection dolphins use would deflect the ship enough to change its trajectory towards the walls of the channel bed where the ship would run aground before striking the bridge even from a head on collision.

You999 ,

They are concrete or wooden structures that are piled deep into the ground like fondation foundation pylons on skyscrapers. The geometry part I was just referring to how they are angled in such a way it ricochets the ship away from the structure it’s protecting or towards the channel. https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/73ba5bec-c718-4f0d-b353-9fa66941bd2c.jpeg

You999 ,

If I had to speculate? Cost savings… The bridge already had a history of cost reductions such as originally being built with a shared approach way which vastly increased the risk of head on collisions.

While the Key Bridge was built as a four-lane bridge, its approaches were kept to two lanes to save money

You999 ,

Possibly but you have to keep in mind this bridge was designed in the late 60s when a lot of the safety regulations that were written in blood hadn’t happened yet. The Florida state sunshine skyway bridge collapse wouldn’t happen for over a decade after the Francis Scott Key bridge opened.

Why Americans are bummed out about the economy (www.cnn.com)

US consumers remain unimpressed with this progress, however, because they remember what they were paying for things pre-pandemic. Used car prices are 34% higher, food prices are 26% higher and rent prices are 22% higher than in January 2020, according to our calculations using PCE data....

You999 ,

The chip shortage is the auto industry own fault. Historically auto manufactures used older prosses nodes (40nm) as it was cheap and widely available however that node they are on is now outdated to the point where there’s not that many fabs manufacturing that size of chips anymore.

To make things worse the silicon industry moved to a larger wafer design which would require the auto industry to invest in new hardware to support the larger wafer and redesign/validate the ICs for the smaller node all of which requires spending money they won’t see a return in for a significant amount of time.

You999 ,

I’m not, the comment I was replying to literally called proton a “security and privacy” company.

You999 ,

I know this is a joke but you can’t buy a new 747 from Boeing even if you wanted to. Boeing stopped taking orders for the 747 in 2020 and the last plane rolled off the production line in 2022.

Roku TV bricked until agreeing to new terms of service

See title - very frustrating. There is no way to continue to use the TV without agreeing to the terms. I couldn’t use different inputs, or even go to settings from the home screen and disconnect from the internet to disable their services. If I don’t agree to their terms, then I don’t get access to their new products. That...

You999 ,

No OP is mostly correct, you cannot enforce the terms of a contract that a side of the party cannot see until after the transaction was completed making arbitration clauses hidden inside products invalid. (Norcia v. Samsung Telecomms. Am., LLC)

However you are also somewhat correct as you are under no obligation to agree to the updated terms and conditions and will be govern by the originally concented contract until you do (Douglas v. Talk America). The company is allowed to stop providing their services to you however you might be entitled to your original purchase price depending on what the original terms and conditions said.

You999 ,

Contact their support and escalate up the food chain until you get to someone who is in the legal department. If that fails get a lawyer and sue.

You999 ,

You are also missing the fact the Japan’s power grid is in a desperate need of repairs and improvements. Hydrogen won’t fix however it introduces some lower cost temporary fixes that can be quickly implemented. In the long term the correct solution would be to fix the grid but we both know if there’s a cheaper and easier solution what they’ll go with…

You999 ,

Bit of a size difference thought… The payload might be small however the balloon portion is not making it easy for the FAA to track unlike your consumer drone that’s the size of a bird.

You999 ,

Any ERP like odoo can do this and with odoo you can even make maintenance reminders. Just remember they are business software so you have to look through that lens.

You999 ,

Neither D-amphetamine or L-amphetamine are methamphetamine. Methyl groups are lipid soluble which dissolves quickly into to your blood stream and effortlessly crosses the blood brain barrier. This makes methamphetamine significantly more potent compared to amphetamines. This is extremely dangerous as the dosage for amphetamines is double that of methamphetamines when taken orally.

You’d still need a base distro from the VM to run on. If OP goes the proxmox route they should do VGPU instead of pass through as it’s more flexible. Here’s the link to a guide on getting vGPU working with consumer grade nvidia GPUs

You999 ,

Not to sound like a shill or anything but that’s what’s great about monero. Its actually used on a daily basis as money because it wasn’t designed to be an investment vessel. Unlike most crypto currencies monero is one a few if not the only crypto currency that could suffer from inflation as there is an unlimited supply however this works out in avarage uses favor as there’s no scarcity based value which means there’s less speculation trading leading to a more stable price. I’m not sure what the long term effects of having an unlimited supply of monero is but their justification is that it’s a predictable fixed ammount added which will prevent hyper inflation.

Once again I’m not a crypto shill, I’m literally saying investing in crypto is a bad idea and to only use it for it’s utility.

You999 ,

From what I see online it’s just hid mapping support and their page only mentions the OG CDJ 2000s (non nexus). I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was only just control and no display features like you get within rekordbox. I have a pair of 2Ks laying around so I’ll try it out some point.

You999 ,

That’s a horrible idea as it would essentially would prevent anyone but mega corporations from obtaining a patent. Right now for around 20k anyone can get a patent on their original idea but if you change it to R&D investment protection some company could just out spend you on R&D (whether or not that even makes it a better product mind you) and claim the patent. This would kill many small businesses industries especially the hobbyist accessories business.

Also you can’t patent a web page layout, that would be filed under the copywrite system as intellectual property.

You999 ,

One click purchasing is a website element not a layout. If you read the patent there’s a bit more going on then just here’s a button that purchases items. The patent describes how the front end and backend works in order to make it work and that’s what separates it from being ‘just a layout’ and makes it patentable.

You999 ,

So does it work with off the shelf software or is it something the developer has the patch in?

You999 ,

The old spaghetti factory still serves it

You999 ,

Or maybe it’s because the majority of Nightclubs are bad products… Why would I want to go to a club where all the art has been sucked out in the name of profit? The resident DJs are just going play the same top 40 tracks while cheap dmx lights are set to auto. There are hundreds of promoters putting in actual value to their shows which makes people actually want to go out instead of the cheap cookie cutter shit you find in the avarage club.

You999 ,

Let me be clear, here in the US Nightclub ≠ venue/party/rave. They are very similar however fundamentally different.

FYI you probably shouldn’t be saying you feel really comfortable with your data safety while suggesting unraid. The way unraid handles it’s storage will lead to data loss at some point. Unraid only locks down an array and protects it when smart starts issuing warnings that a drive has failed. Smart isn’t magic though and when a drive starts to die it might start writing garbage data for days if not weeks before smart catches on. If a drive writes garbage for long enough there’s nothing you can do to fix it due to that way unraid handles arrays. This is why ZFS is such a popular option as it treats hard drive with a level of skepticism and verifies the data was actually written correctly along with verifying the data from time to time.

That’s not even mentioning unraid is charging for what other software does for free.

You999 ,

Sorta… If the array was built with hybrid ZFS within unraid which is what the majority of unraid users go with as it allows for better mixing of various sized drives and easier expansion of the array in the future (in other words the main selling points of unraid) then you do not get any of the safety nets ZFS provides as what unraid is essentially doing is making a single drive zfs vdev for each drive in the array. In unraid’s own words “ZFS-formatted disks in Unraid’s array do not offer inherent self-healing protection.”.

How can open source hardware be a movement if the raw materials still have to be mined and factory produced?

Are there any good alternatives to concrete/asphalt

Why is it so expensive and is there an alternative out there that won’t break so easily especially in the winter? My state is spending like a billion dollars a year on roads that they’ll probably have to fix in 5 years, it really seems like a huge waste of money....

You999 ,

Roman roads don’t see 80000Lb semi trucks rolling over them.

You999 ,

Short selling, Wallstreet thing for making money when the stock. It kinda works like borrowing a stock and immediately selling it, then we it’s time to return the stock you borrowed you buy a replacement and if the price has gone down you keep the profit.

You999 ,

Does reddit still have an onion link for tor?

You999 ,

0.4Ghz on the base clock is kind of a big difference when you can’t overclock that headroom back. I’d personally wait till the benchmarks are out to really gauge how much you are giving up.

You999 ,

Fun fact: originally the A-10 didn’t have electronic targeting or IFF (friend or foe) because the designer thought fighter planes still dog fought like they did in WW2 so they were deemed unnecessary in the name of maneuverability and cost reduction. Because of that outdated mindset the A-10 is the second place plane for most friendly fire incentdence and number one for most civilians killed. Wait actually that’s not really a fun fact…

You999 ,

If it’s energy savings we’re actually going for, EVs as they are aren’t the answer.

If we take the real awnser of public transportation out of the picture then moving to EVs as a replacement for SOVs does in fact conserve our energy.

An internal combination engine are Only 35-40% efficient as a lot of heat is generated and lost. A gas turbine on the other hand can be as as high as 80% efficient .

It’s more efficient for us to burn fuels to generate electricity to power EVs including transmission losses and charging losses than to burn them in ICE vehicles. Again though public transportation is the better solution overall.

You999 ,

The two big ones I see is no official vGPU support (you can get it to work unofficially but it’s not prod ready) and the clustering scheduler is still in active development while still missing several features that vSphere’s scheduler offers.

Not to give Boeing any slack but what 757 had it’s door blown open? The only one I can find was DHL 757 which had its cargo door open during flight. Boeing had nothing to do with that incident as the plane originally left the factory as a passenger jet. Later in the aircraft’s life it was converted into a freighter by Precision Conversions LLC. This wasn’t even a door plug situation like with AS1282 as the conversion process preformed by Precision Conversions LLC requires cutting a rather large hole in the fuselage for the cargo door. The other thing is Boeing hasn’t produced a 757 since 2004, any manufacturering defect thats made it twenty years before causing issues is pretty impressive.

Also bombardier currently only makes business jets. The closest plane bombardier has ever made to competing with Boeing was the C series however those jets were designed for regional flights which is a sector of the industry Boeing doesn’t really compete in outside of the 737 max 7. On top of that because of shady deals bombardier orchestrated Boeing got very scared and lobbied the department of commerce to enact a 292% import tariff on the C series. Due to the tariffs Bombardier ended up completely selling the C series to airbus in 2020 who rebranded it to the A220.

United Airlines CEO says the airline will consider alternatives to Boeing's next airplane (apnews.com)

The United Airlines CEO says he is “disappointed” in ongoing manufacturing problems at Boeing that have led to the grounding of dozens of United jetliners, and the airline will consider alternatives to buying a future, larger version of the Boeing 737 Max....

You999 , (edited )

Embraer’s largest plane the 195-E2 fits 146 in an all economy configuration. Boeing’s smallest plane the 737 max 7 has an all economy configuration capacity of 172. Embraer just doesnt make a plane in the same class as Boeing or airbus.

Following the spirit of the law would be extremely dangerous as one’s interpretation of the spirit of the law maybe comply differently from another. There’s also the issue of being punished for following what is written in the law only to be unjustly punished for something that’s not written anywhere in the law. How are you supposed to trust the law if you cannot rely upon that law to be accurate? The real issue is lawmakers not covering all of every edge case either that be out of ignorance or malice and allowing those loopholes to exist in the first place.

Computer RAM gets biggest upgrade in 25 years but it may be too little, too late — LPCAMM2 won't stop Apple, Intel and AMD from integrating memory directly on the CPU (www.techradar.com)

You999 ,

I’d argue that they do have the logistics down pretty well at this point as HBM3E can squeeze 144Gb onto a package.

You999 ,

Almost a zero percent chance that will happen as HBM is a stack of DRAM dies, capacity can be reduced by omitting additional dies. If the DRAM were directly integrated into the CPU’s die then maybe we could see software locks however historically that would be accomplished by physically laser cutting the traces (unless you are AMD and forget to with the K10.5)

Ketamine has medical applications such as being commonly used as an anesthetic in short term procedures and with those who do not respond positively to opioids. Ketamine is classified under low addiction risk as it’s not physically addicting as in its users do not suffer from withdrawal. The problem with ketamine however is that it helps users cope with a plethora of different mental illnesses which in itself is addictive.
