Seriously. Lightfall was such utter schlock it turned me off to the game entirely.

The writing was bad. I played through the campaign four times (three normal, one ... whatever the hell hard mode was called) and I still have no idea what "the Veil" even is, why we cared about it, why we did literally anything that we did, etc.

The new Darkness element was fun but the way it was introduced made it REALLY OBVIOUS it was supposed to be in Witch Queen and just got delayed.

Game balance went out the window, to the point where people were getting one-shot mapped by Cabal rocket launchers in patrol zones.

They introduced a new raid that, while thematically fun and visually gorgeous, was un-fun to play.

Eh... the more I Think about it the more everything Chozo said covers it more eloquently.

Edit: I don't remember if it was with Lightfall or Witch Queen but they managed to make Gambit worse. Gambit was already neglected and damn near unplayable. They made it worse.

I think the instructions for how to make soap would be less important to a civilization than why to make soap. Germ theory and basic hygiene practices would save a lot of lives.

I would include everything I know (or had access to for the sake of this scenario) about germ theory. Admittedly my own off-hand knowledge is not much, but basic hygiene and sanitation and how to avoid getting sick would save a lot of lives. What germs are, how vaccination works, etc.

I'm really torn on whether or not I think The Inner Light should've had more of an effect on him.

The crux of the issue is that in his actual life he was a career guy who never made time for a family.

So, on the one hand, living that life could've fulfilled his dream and made it so he could dedicate himself to being Starfleet with no regrets. In a real way, he got to have both.

But on the other hand, if he dismisses that entire life as a hallucination and doesn't embrace how it felt, it could make his longing-for-a-life-he-never-had that much worse.

Seeing as we never saw him have a complete breakdown over it, and only mentioned it later on in First Contact that he had any regrets about being the last Picard, I can only assume the former was true. (Leaving aside Generations. Why are the odd-numbered Trek films always so goddamn weird?)

Despite being half Cypriot, I don't speak much Greek. Apologies to actual Greeks who realize how badly I'm butchering my transliterations here; my ancestors would be ashamed. (Most of them would probably just laugh at me though.)

That said, one of the funnier ones that used to go around in my family works like this: You yell for me from across the house. I respond "Di?" ("What?") And you yell again, usually meaning I should come over to wherever you are. Again, I say, "Di?" ("What?") And in exasperation, you respond, "Si kephali su tribidi!" (Your head is full of holes!) with emphasis on the last, matching, syllable as if to say "that's what!"

Switch to Geico. I got rear ended a couple years ago and they took care of everything. They even offered to book a rental for me. To me, it looks like there are different levels of bullshit jobs.

There are jobs that are entirely bullshit. Like the military sandbags example: guys filling bags, other guys emptying the same bags. This is a waste of time, money, and resources, AND contributes nothing to society. Jobs like this should not exist, and CAN only exist in an environment (like the military) where essentially nobody actually involved in the process has any profit motive, or any incentive whatsoever to make the process efficient or good.

There are jobs that are bullshit to society, and this is where a lot of corpo jobs fall. They contribute nothing to society, they are meaningless to the person doing them, but somehow, some way, they contribute something to the purpose of making money for other people. And under capitalism, making money for someone other than yourself is the reason literally any job exists. If your job does not contribute to the almighty SHAREHOLDER, your job will not exist.

So if it feels like your job is bullshit, look for who you're making money for, or who you're protecting from losing a few pennies of profit. That's who your job matters to. Not you, personally. The people who decided your job should exist don't give a single fuck about you as a human being and never will, ever. But your job matters to them because your job getting done means they make more money than if it didn't, and that's all they do care about.

It's funny, I was literally having this exact conversation with my wife last night.

It's actually, as others have said, surprisingly likely. You're not precisely "losing weight" so much as you are "becoming more dense," at least in part. Like, yeah, you're burning fat, but you're also building muscle.

The big up-side is that muscle burns more calories than fat under the same circumstances, so as you do this -- as you convert more of your overall weight into muscle -- you'll notice that you continue that process more and more efficiently. (I say as an overweight person who hasn't benefited from this process in a very long time...)
