Using gendered professions mostly fell out of style years ago. Waiter/waitress became server. Steward/stewardess became flight attendant. Actor/actress is still used but I hear “actor” used for all genders more frequently these days.

Some people feel more comfortable talking to or being touched by a person of a specific gender. Sometimes that’s for a bigoted reason but sometimes it’s not. For example, I’ve always had an easier time opening up about emotional stuff with women so I would prefer speaking to a female counselor or therapist. This isn’t because I dislike or distrust men, I just had more conversations like that with my female friends growing up so it feels more natural.

I’m a solid manager. I started my current job about 5 months ago. I don’t think the staff I inherited had ever worked under anyone halfway decent. Three months in I was still reassuring my team that I wasn’t trying to replace them, I was only hiring people because we were grossly understaffed. Two months later we’re fully staffed, no one has been fired, and they finally trust me.

It’s fucking tragic how poorly most managers do their jobs.

I’m cross dominant. I do some things left handed, some things right handed, and a select few I can do with either. Elementary school was weird. My teachers couldn’t comprehend that I write with my right hand but use scissors with my left. For years I was forced to use right handed scissors held awkwardly in my left hand. To this day, I’m not particularly good with scissors.

The idea is that by choosing to be a police officer, you’re condoning the bad behavior of the bastards. They had a couple strong seasons roughly 10 years ago IMO. Good enough to keeping me watching again consistently for a few years. Then one day I realized that we were 5 episodes into a season and every single episode had been an alternate universe style episode. Like, oh hey, this week’s episode is The Simpsons but it’s a spaghetti western for absolutely no reason and with no explanation.

I remember asking my wife it she could remember the last time we actually saw Homer at the power plant. Did he still work there? Did he finally get permanently fired and this season represents his decent into madness as he realizes there’s no coming back this time? Or maybe he never worked there and I’m the one who’s gone crazy.

She said, “Let’s watch something else.”

Haven’t watched it since then.
