SirSamuel ,

Oh wow, I can’t wait to spend a shitload of money on it, only to wait two hours for it to update every time I want to play it. The best part is when one of those pointless updates breaks my joystick and makes the have unplayable.

I love that

SirSamuel ,

I’ve found Grayjay helps me hate YouTube less

SirSamuel ,

I don’t know why you were downvoted because those are pure facts

(i assume you wish for Whitaker to be fornicated, not the OP)

Oh I ain’t dead, I’m just real depressed

HP bricks ProBook laptops with bad BIOS delivered via automatic updates — many users face black screen after Windows pushes new firmware (www.tomshardware.com)

On May 26, a user on HP’s support forums reported that a forced, automatic BIOS update had bricked their HP ProBook 455 G7 into an unusable state. Subsequently, other users have joined the thread to sound off about experiencing the same issue....

SirSamuel ,

If i knew of any execs near where i live they would be getting a front row seat to my reenactment of the Office Space printer scene.

It’s rare for me to viscerally hate someone just for existing, but if i met an HP exec I would have to exert quite a bit of self control to not beat them until I lost feeling in my hands

SirSamuel ,

Ray Belli is amazing and I’ve failed to learn so many things from his podcast because as soon as he starts speaking my mind wanders. It’s like the audio version of reading the same paragraph four times because my brain decides to think about something else while my eyes move across the page

SirSamuel ,

Same. I have trade and niche hobby interests that don’t have critical mass here.

Conversations are better here tho

Bag of cash doesn’t stop jurors from convicting 5 of 7 defendants in $40 million food fraud scheme (apnews.com)

A jury convicted five Minnesota residents but acquitted two others on Friday for their roles in a scheme to steal more than $40 million that was supposed to feed children during the coronavirus pandemic. The case received widespread attention after someone tried to bribe a juror with a bag of $120,000 in cash....

    SirSamuel ,

Wow, amazing they had $200,000 to leave in a bag for a juror

    SirSamuel ,

If the urban area is too densely populated there may not be enough blooming plants to support a colony. TBH close neighbors wouldn’t really be affected, or even notice, unless they are hyper-aware of bees due to an allergy or phobia. Our neighbor kept bees right beside our apartment complex and no one noticed at all

These wall units look really slick, but the hive entrance needs to be accessable from the outside, and the inside of hive itself needs to be accessable from time to time, even if the beekeeper doesn’t plan on harvesting honey. I only have a little knowledge of beekeeping, but I do know they don’t just run themselves. Keeping a hive healthy requires regular attention and work. Kind of like houseplants, actually

    SirSamuel ,

Lol i was thinking more about the super-durable-in-the-wild / fragile-when-domesticated dichotomy, but yeah, didn’t forget to water your bees

Do you find anything funny about the name…

    Bigus…

    Dickus?

    SirSamuel ,

Yeah, I lost something. I lost peace and quiet. What do you need?! What do you want?! Can I not just live here, without having to occasionally deal with you animals!?

    SirSamuel ,

This weekend a whole lot of sunlight had the opportunity of beating me about the face, neck, and arms. I’m not embarrassed, really, but I am a bit red in the face about it

    SirSamuel ,

I thought you said inedible at first and I was like 🤔

    SirSamuel ,

I felt ya. If it isn’t misspelling word it’s random capitalization in you’re post. Gboard used to just work. Now it mostly sucks

(For the record: *feel *words, *your)

    SirSamuel ,

Like, fatally stabbed? That’s a bit much

But, you know, a flesh wound, a bit of an ouchy, something to make you think next time you open your goddamn mouth Kevin you ignorant waste of skin…

    Yeah I’d say that’s reasonable

    SirSamuel ,

I think we can all agree that intentionally killing or maiming someone is a step too far. A little light stabbing in response to malicious cuntery is perfectly acceptable

    SirSamuel ,

Like punching someone in the dark!

J/K, I have a pavlovian response to the phrase “victimless crime”

    SirSamuel ,

I was driving an old work van on the highway, doing the speed limit of 65 mph (105 kph). As i crested the hill traffic was stopped a few hundred yards ahead. I had plenty of room to brake and come to a stop, a bit abrupt for the weight of the vehicle but no big deal. I applied the brakes and the pedal went right to the floor. The brake lines had blown out from corrosion. I was in the right lane and there was an exit ramp to my right. The stopped traffic was fast approaching. I dropped the automatic transmission into low gear (it was an older Chevy, so it had R N D 4 3 2 on the column) and swerved right, with what felt like a fraction of an inch to spare from the car in front of me. I swear I could see the sour expression of a woman who very nearly has her day ruined go by in slow motion, like that Umbrella Academy meme. The off ramp gave me time to pump the brakes and let the engine slow the vehicle down. I was fully prepared to throw it into park if necessary, but by the time I got to the intersection enough brake pressure had been regained to stop. Pulled off the road and had that POS towed to a garage.

There was the time I high-sided my motorcycle, but OP asked for almost, not actual.

'Star Trek' Franchise Reboot: Simon Kinberg Eyed for Paramount Movie

So now this just sounds like a Trek prequel, not specifically a Kelvin prequel.

So I wondered what the charges were and the penalties for giving OTC medication to minors without parental consent. It appears that the FDA considers melatonin a food supplement, not a drug. (Disclaimer, this is from 5 minutes searching online, I have no real knowledge beyond that). After reading the article, and lacking any other information, it seems like the investigation was spurred by the melatonin dosing, but the illegal part was operating an unlicensed daycare with more than 3 children in a private home. (Again, I’m very uninformed and guessing/extrapolating)

I’m actually not sure if it’s illegal to give melatonin to minors without guardian consent. Unethical certainly, but if it’s not a controlled substance or medication regulated by the FDA like OTC meds, is it illegal? There a some state laws prohibiting some supplements being given to minors. For example, NY has outlawed sales of dietary supplements to minors. If the supplement can be proved to harm a child, that’s clearly illegal. It looks like there’s not enough research to prove that’s the case with melatonin though.

If anyone has a better understanding of these things, I’d love to hear it. I’m really curious about this now

    SirSamuel ,

Makes sense. Thank you. I’m aware of what is sometimes a vast gulf between what is right and what is legal. I’m glad to see the principle of battery and the law are aligned in this case

    SirSamuel ,

And it wasn’t a proprietary storage card? They didn’t invent their own headphone jack that only works with Sony headphones? Amazing. It’s like a whole new company!

If you can’t tell, I’m still salty about aaaaaallllllllllllllllll the shit they pulled in the 90s/00s. Nothing like buying an mp3 player with money I should’ve been spending more responsibly and then learning I could only use Sony brand storage cards. Cards that cost twice as much for the same storage space. I bought my Xbox and dropped PlayStation solely because of those shenanigans.

If, in twenty years, HP makes the only computer that doesn’t give you literal AIDS I still won’t buy one. And i feel the same about Sony today

    SirSamuel ,

Dude I went straight back to J&R on Park Row and returned that thing. I had SD cards from my camera that I planned to use, and didn’t ask about storage at the store (mistakes of youth lol). I eventually got a Zen (30Gb!) a year or two later. What a tank!

My institutional memories prevent me from buying Sony

When the PS4 came out and my old friends were clamoring over it i thought, “In 2003, we swore ‘never again’. In 2013, we broke that promise.”

    But i NEVER DID https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/fa84f561-71bc-49ed-83b1-3fd17f1ca797.gif

    SirSamuel ,

TBH I didn’t feel that strongly, but I could not resist channeling BLM

That analogy works for many things these days

    SirSamuel ,

That’s the way it was. Privilege, which just means ‘private law.’ Two types of people laugh at the law; those that break it and those that make it.

The FAA investigates after Boeing says workers in South Carolina falsified 787 inspection records (apnews.com)

Does color change how hot a laser can get something?

For convenience sake let’s say you have 2 identical lasers, one is blue and one is red. And you shine it on lead (so none of the light leaks through) until the lead doesn’t heat up anymore. Would the temperature change at all between the different color lasers. It doesn’t have to be red or blue, it could be microwave or x...

    SirSamuel ,

Oh I have a question! Do all frequencies on the EM spectrum emit photons? Like, when gamma rays or X rays or microwaves hit something are photons bouncing off/being absorbed and we just can’t see them?
