Torrenting is a technology where a network of ordinary people share a file in tiny pieces all together. There’s no central server, you connect to one, ten, or a hundred other computers who each give you part of the file.

Torrenting only works if people are uploading the file as well as downloading it. Giving a file to others is called seeding, and taking a file from others without giving back is called leeching. Most people are peers, who take the same amount they give. Ideally, everyone would be a peer, but since some people are leeches, we also need seeders.

I’m not familiar with this stremio app, but if it does what I think it does, then it takes from the network without giving back and it can now pretend to be a different client to sneak onto the network. If enough stremio users watch a show, it’ll become unavailable to other pirates.

A lot of the shows I watch aren’t popular to torrent. Infinity Train got taken down by Cartoon Network, and now it only exists for pirates. So pirates need to seed it so it can continue to exist in any form. Same for Generator Rex. I wanted to watch The Flying Nun, but it ran out of seeds and can’t be watched anymore. If a single leech downloads a show on the brink like Generator Rex, it could end up like The Flying Nun. Gone forever. I’m not worried about these popular new releases like Invincible or Loki, I’m worried about media preservation.

They could have easily crammed the Steam Deck full of stuff to make it hard to use for piracy - locking down everything, making it usable only to play games you legitimately own, force you to go through who knows what hoops in order to play games on it. Back in 2000-2012, a good lot of mainly singleplayer games had optional multiplayer modes. Think Halo, Starcraft, TRON, Titanfall, etc. Even DOOM 2016 had it. These games function with the servers down.

No, that’s not true. It’s not true because that’s not how we use disability language. Neurotypicals do not act autistic, and they don’t act ret**ded. I sought treatment, and most of the pwNPD I know have sought treatment. The primary barriers to actually getting treatment are cost, and lack of trained psychologists. Insurance doesn’t cover personality disorders and therapists don’t know how to help us, other than giving generalised PTSD and cPTSD treatment such as schema therapy.

Yeah, I hated it too. If I had a server automatically downloading torrents at all times on my network, I could kiss goodbye to online gaming and voice calls with my swarm, and even browsing and work would slow to a crawl. If I have 100 gigabytes free on my media drive, and I have Columbo and Friends on my to watch list, and I also want to keep up with Invincible as new episodes come out, then auto downloading would fuck me. It would fill that 100 gigabytes with 10 seasons of sitcoms and 10 seasons of detective shows, and then next week when the new Invincible episode comes out, there’s no room for it. But I definitely would rather watch the new Invincible on a timely basis than another season of Ross getting into arguments with Rachel. You know, if I was a cis man and a trans person told me I was being transphobic, I would at least spend 10 minutes questioning if I’m wrong. I’d do that basic courtesy.
