The problem is these AI companies currently exist on the business model of not paying for information, and that generally includes not wanting to pay content curators.

Google is probably the only one in a position to potentially outsource by making everyone solve a “does this hand look normal to you” CAPTCHA

They can try and train AI to detect AI, but that’s also difficult.

It’s more than that, its been shown to not be any more effective than regular hand washing with non-antibacterial soap, and it has major negative ecosystem impacts. For example, it is hard to filter and fish downstream of AB soap bioaccumulate the AB chemicals to the point of toxicity.

At best it’s useless, at worst it contributes to AB resistance, and is toxic to downstream flora and fauna.

To be abundantly clear, with the system as designed in the US, third party (presidential) candidates do not have any chance of “getting in” this election, let alone a “reasonable” chance (in certain areas, some options may exist for lesser political appointments).

Voting third party is at best a weak attempt to signal preference for future elections, but at worst a gift to whichever party or candidate you consider to be “most bad”.

By all means, protest vote in the primaries, campaign for candidates you believe in, and most importantly, discuss the issues that are important to you to help bolster public awareness, but please, PLEASE, don’t fall for the con that is voting 3rd party in the election.

I don’t know who your third party favorite is, but do yourself a favor and look at who is donating to their campaign, and what other campaigns those donors support - a lot of money is thrown at 3rd party candidates to draw votes away from credible political opponents.

No president has ever been or will ever be perfect, but we’ve had some good steps since LBJ:

Clinton’s increased taxes on the rich, defense spending cuts, etc, got us our first and last government surplus years since '69, and made a little progress on welfare, but that was largely hampered by a Republican takeover of the House in '94

Obama passed the ACA, which was pretty meaningful to the middle class. Again, further progress got hampered by Republicans in congress in the later years of his presidency

Biden has passed the Inflation Reduction Act, which has lots of progressive incentives that benefit middle class families, including tax breaks for home efficiency improvements, renewable energy, and electric vehicles. He has also helped wipe away billions of dollars in student loan debts, benefiting middle class families (but again, you can thank Republicans for that not moving further or quicker)

You’ll note the constant tend though - since the president doesn’t write the laws, without congressional support, progressive ambitions get killed.

Extracting frames from a video with ffmpeg very slow if not using jpeg

I’m trying to extract the frames of a video as individual images but it’s really slow, except when I’m using jpeg. The obvious issue with jpegs is the data loss from the compression, I want the images to be lossless. Extracting them as jpegs manages about 50-70 fps but as pngs it’s only 4 fps and it seems to continue...

Honestly I don’t know, but it seems to me like extracting every single frame of a video as a lossless PNG is only really something that’s necessary if you’re trying to archive something or do frame by frame restoration. Either way, it is something that you hopefully aren’t doing every day, so why not just let it run overnight & move on?

Otherwise ask yourself if you can settle with just extracting a single clip/section, or what’s actually wrong with lossy jpeg with a low -qscale:v (high quality) - start around 5 and work down until you visually can’t see any difference

Just to be clear, renewable energy credits are different than carbon offsets, and easier to guarantee because they’re often tied directly to a metered renewable energy source.

That said, there are still junk RECs on the market, like those tied to energy that was produced up to 2 decades ago that nobody got around to claiming / retiring. Or RECs tied to energy sources that may have happened regardless of the REC sale.
