That was me this morning. I knew my house has an issue with pipes freezing, I knew it was going down to -30c (-22f) with a -40 windchill last night here, yet for some boneheaded reason I never bothered to put a space heater in the area where the pipes freeze.

So I got to swear at myself this morning for a half hour while I was running around with a propane torch in my basement to thaw the lines out so I could flush the toilet and make coffee.

One good thing with being an idiot is you get to learn how to fix things at least, so there’s that…

Marijuana meets criteria for reclassification as lower-risk drug, FDA scientific review finds (www.cnn.com)

Marijuana has a lower potential for abuse than other drugs that are subjected to the same restrictions, with scientific support for its use as a medical treatment, researchers from the US Food and Drug Administration say in documents supporting its reclassification as a Schedule III substance....

I used to love acid when I was younger. I bought 30 hits of blotter just for my 18th birthday for me and my friends. Never hallucinated like some people claim but had tons of energy and it made everything feel so… real? and vibrant. Shrooms were cool but just not nearly on the same level.

You definitely want to plan ahead and make sure you’re surrounded by good company and plenty to do beforehand though.

And from what I understand it takes years for our emissions to react in the environment, so this is the consequences of our polluting from years ago… even if we stop everything today, we will still have a few decades of heating before it can level out.

It may be time to sell my snowblower while it’s still worth something.

If I wasn’t grandfathered in, (5th gen) Canada would probably have kicked me out for not being a normal Canadian because I don’t like watching hockey much. Playing it sure, but watching other people play sports just isn’t my thing.

It’s nice that weed is legal though.

I got myself a breadmaker for that same reason, and I’m kind of lazy when it comes to baking. I love the fact that all I have to do is toss the ingredients in, and 3 hours later I have nice fresh warm bread that cost next to nothing to make.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

Nope. Just throw the ingredients into the machine and turn it on. my machine won’t do anything for the first few minutes then it’ll start doing it’s thing. In about an hour and 20 minutes later it’ll beep to let you know to add nuts/raisins etc (If you so desire) and after that it’ll start the actual baking process.

From the time it’s turned on it takes 3 hours and ten minutes before it’s finished. at that point you can either pop the loaf out or it’ll go into 'warming mode" and just sit there and keep itself warm.

I can also do bagels and pizza dough for it, which works well. Saves a lot of the effort of beating up the dough.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

A little late but just to add to my other reply, most breadmakers have a dough setting that allows you to toss your ingredients in and it’ll just make the dough for you. Then you can take the dough and bake it the rest of the way the old fashioned way. (It’s the way I make bagels and pizza dough)

I highly recommend one just for the ease of use. There’s lots of good recipes online. One tip is if your machine seems to struggle a bit when it’s kneading, just add a bit more water/milk to the recipe to smooth it out.

They are definitely worth it in my opinion. I picked mine up used from a thrift store for something like $20 just to give it a shot, and I’m hooked. I’ve have been using it regularly for the last 4 years now.

Am I the only one that enjoyed night shifts? Less traffic, no big bosses around to mess things up or get in the way, no scheduled meetings or other distractions… just do your job and go home. And you can still run around to appointments etc and get stuff done during the day when everything is open without taking time off work.

Mind you, I’ve always been a night owl so that probably helps my perspective…

Well I am a bit thin, but everyone tells me I look younger than I am so I guess the flesh on me is still fairly juicy at least.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

I think what they’re trying to say is nobody will want to work shit jobs for next to no pay.

I don’t see how that’s a bad thing except for employers. If the job is worth doing, the money should be worth it too. People shouldn’t be forced to do shitty/dangerous jobs just to survive.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

From your example, what I’m saying is nobody should be cleaning a sewer for minimum wage. If you need your sewer fixed you can either do it yourself or pay someone enough that they’d be willing to do it.

If you can’t pay someone enough, obviously fixing that sewer wasn’t important enough to you.

I’m not saying everyone should get the same wage. There’s a huge difference between flipping burgers and working in a mine, and the pay should reflect that.

Just to add to this, a lot of basic vehicle maintenance/repairs may seem daunting but are really pretty easy once you know what you’re doing.

For anyone who has a 10+yr old vehicle and needs a repair manual for it, (2013 or older) charm.li has probably got a digital copy for you.

As a straight guy I see this as pretty good news. It means more people are comfortable being themselves rather than what some church tells them they have to be. I’m sure in reality those numbers are even higher, but there’s still a lot of people who can’t/won’t admit it because of religious dogma.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

To be fair, if you are on the receiving end of airstrikes chances are pretty high they’re not trying to make friends with you.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

For sure, nobody is smelling like roses in this one. If we spent half as much effort trying to get along rather than blow each other up, this world would be a much better place.

Stayed home most of the day except to go to my daughter’s house for supper, about a 1/4 mile away.

The closest business that would have been open today out here would have been the gas station about 16 miles (25km) away.

I have a Panasonic “Genius” microwave from 1983, still going strong.

A multimeter from the 70’s, although I don’t use it often anymore (I have two newer ones)

A Back and Decker b-100 corded drill from the 1960’s with a skill saw of the same era. (Both backups in case my newer ones die.)

Also not really tech, but A scythe from the 1930’s, an old clothes iron from the early 1900’s (The kind you heated on the stove) a machete from 1920, and a couple old hand pump sprayers from the 20’s or 30’s (The type you screw a glass bottle onto) that all are functional but mainly just collect dust.

I probably have some other old crap I’m not thinking of at the moment, I just like collecting weird old things.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

I’m going to cry when mine finally dies. I bought it second hand in 1991/92 and have only ever replaced the light bulb in it once around 98. That microwave has survived both my daughters growing up and a lot of moves over the years.

Although at this rate I might crap out before it does lol.

Ukraine Awaits Delivery Of First F-16 Jets In Coming Days As Kyiv Seeks To Counter Russian Air Superiority (www.rferl.org)

Now the only issue I have is the time it takes for android to boot. It’s like having to wait for your tv to warm up all over again except without the high pitched noise old tv sets had.

His “plans” are probably to stir up shit, mess with elections, sabotage, bribe people in positions of power, stage civil unrest… all the things he was going to do anyway.

The only difference is he’s whining about it in the open instead of doing it behind everyone’s back.

Exactly, Facebook doesn’t do anything unless they see money in it or they’re trying to protect their bottom line.

It’s all about the shareholders, nothing else matters to the corporate world, no matter how nice of a bow they try to wrap it in.

I used to have a cat that would go mental for Pringles. She would not leave you alone if she saw a can in the house until you would put it down on the floor for her to see for herself that it was empty.

Are the fans on the gpu turning when you power up? It almost sounds like a heat issue.

Rocketpoweredgorilla , (edited )
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

OK that is an odd one… so we know it isn’t the monitor as you said it works fine with the laptop, so it seems to come down to either the gpu or your psu is getting weak. (power supply.)

Monitoring your temps with something like Speedfan ( almico.com/speedfan.php ) would ensure it’s not temperature related but it sounds like it may be more than that at this point. I’m not sure what else you could try other than swapping the gpu or psu out to see if that solves the issue. You could also try a different monitor just to be sure your monitor just doesn’t like your pc, but it doesn’t sound like that would be the problem.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

Possible but unlikely, unless the slot got damaged somehow or the card isn’t clipped in properly. Is there any way you can test a different card, or test that card in a different pc?

I used to have a job delivering bedding material for cattle. When I would unload they would often gather at the back of my semi truck and jump and dance around headbutting the material as it was falling out the back like enthusiastic dachshunds. It made me a bit nervous getting out of the truck in case one accidentally crushed me.

Happy cows are a little scary but hilarious at the same time.

So Facebook, the company that reviews your private messages ( money.com/facebook-reviews-private-messages/ ) will let you encrypt your messages to other messenger users (That it also monitors) so that a third party can’t get that data without paying them first?

I’m still running my Galaxy s4 with LineageOS. It’s on it’s third battery but works good otherwise. Doesn’t have the power of newer phones but all I need is a phone/email/text system, and the IR blaster is nice for controlling my tv/amp. I plan to run this thing until either it dies or I do.

I made a fireplace out of wood for my playhouse/shed. It worked about as well as expected.

(In my defense it was a sort of laminate, so I didn’t clue in what it really was until it was too late. I ended up causing around $2000 dollars damage, which was a fair chunk of money in the 70’s.)
