I used to think like that, but the older I get the more I’m starting to think otherwise.

I’m not super old yet but I’ve had a pretty eventful life and was probably a bit too hard on my physical form when I was younger and considered myself indestructible. Now I have back pain, knee issues, pulmonary fibrosis (scarred lungs from dusty environments), messed up right wrist, missing part of two fingers on my left hand, deteriorating eyesight etc etc.

I’m not wishing for death or anything, but there starts to be a point where you really don’t want to keep slowly getting worse to the point you can’t do what you love anymore and you’re just a burden to others. That becomes the time that you just want that last big sleep to finally get here.

Now if we could fix all these common ailments and keep our bodies like we were back in our twenties, that would be a different story…

I think (for me anyways) the worst ones are eyesight and mobility. Both my kids are in their thirties and I do as much as I can to help them and work on my oldest’s house and vehicles, but once those things go out on me I’ll be about ready for the end.

Reminds me of a guy I knew that figured if the bank couldn’t get a hold of him they couldn’t repossess his house, so he ignored all their letters.

The worst part is you try explaining that’s not how it works to someone like that, but they will still take the legal advice of a co-workers second cousin’s family friend’s nephew just because that’s what they want to hear.

Slippers are great. I used to have an awesome pair of gorilla slippers… until my dog shredded one.

Like anime_ted said, it’s likely her gut biome. One of the cats I took in (Moops) used to be able to kill a canary from a quarter mile away when he’d drop a load. You could always tell if it was him in the litter box no matter where you were in the house.

I think it took about 6 months to a year before the demons in his butt settled down and we could breathe easy again.

I updated my proton app recently and as I was updating it Microsoft edge updater tried installing updates as well for some reason.

I don’t even have edge installed. I simply blocked it from having net access but still, they can go take a flying fuck at a rolling donut if they think I’m putting that on my system.

I’d like to flip to Linux, but I have an older nvidia card that doesn’t play well with it, so until I upgrade some hardware win 10 will have to do. At least I’m firewalled so I can block their shit when it tries shenanigans like that.

Nearly 10 now. Finding drivers wasn’t an issue, but just couldn’t get much performance out of them.

I’m probably going to update some stuff this summer and possibly flip to Amd so I’ll probably try again then.

A company I worked for put them on all their vehicles one year to try and cut down on deer damage to our trucks. (About 45 vehicles or so)

Deer collisions went up immediately. At best they didn’t work, at worst it was actively spooking them… either way they were removed shortly thereafter and the incident rates started dropping soon after that.

I think it was more a matter of timing. It was in the fall around hunting season when more people are out running around in the bush and deer are on the move.

The whistles were our safety officers idea. The rest of us pretty much knew they were crap. (Or at least some of us did) The safety guy wasn’t too sure either but figured they were cheap enough to at least give them a shot.

It didn’t help matters that we were operating in an area with a very dense population of deer either. I’ve personally counted over 80 standing in a field by a road.

Ya, deer are not smart. I’ve had deer literally run towards me and into the side of my semi truck in an attempt to “get away.” I saw it coming from about a quarter mile away, and it just kept running towards me. I even blew the horn a few times. I was basically at a stop when it bumped into me. (It survived, but probably was feeling very stupid later.) And this was still during daylight hours. I’ve also had one trip over the hood of my car while stopped.

I can only assume wherever they think is a safe spot when they panic they’ll potentially bolt towards it, despite anything or anyone in the way.

I have a 110v electric kettle and it works fine for me… flip the switch and it boils the water and auto shuts off when it’s done. Doesn’t really take that long imo, definitely quicker than microwaving the same amount of hot water or doing it on the stove. If I’m in a hurry It’s great for “preheating” the water before I dump it into the pot to make macaroni/ spaghetti etc.

I got a 9 volt battery three weeks ago for my multimeter, at home I put it aside somewhere the cats wouldn’t get at it to play with it and lose it on me.
