Honestly if a telemarketer called while someone was actually an emergency and they explained that the telemarketer would probably hang up if that’s their usual response to anything that deviates script lmao

Wait Amazon isn’t classified as a distributor? wtf that’s litterally it’s entire buisness model

this is sadly actually one of the largest use cases, it’s called a dead-mans cable (for good reason) but it’s how many northern residents run generators in the winter during power outages. Cheaper then running a bypass switch (which can easily be 300-500$ to buy plus install cost) by a huge margin. They just throw the main breaker prior to running the generator. It shouldn’t be done but it happens more frequently then you would expect especially in the antiqued houses that may not even be up to code in the first place

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

what’s even worse is the facr that if they ruled transport was clock in time everywhere would magically be embracing work from home.

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Honestly if I had heard about this case before I bought my switch I probably would have said the same now I feel like I have a piece of Hardware that I barely use anyway that I feel like I shouldn’t have bought.

Granted I feel like this is kind of his own fault, not because of his involvement with it but because it seems like he just literally folded without a fight. I think it’s yet actually fought the charges, yes it would have cost time and money in the long run but I don’t think it would be as bad as what the punishment they gave was.

Every company out there is talking about record values with their enshittification I’m just over here like, I haven’t had a streaming service subscription in 3 years now unless you count YouTube premium and a few subscriptions to content creators on Twitch but I don’t really count them cuz it’s not a subscribe to get access to content Styles subscription. Like there’s only so much the everyday person can take before they just start canceling Subs and then they get no money out of them

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

What is sad is this already can be done, but parents are either not educated in the process of how or don’t care enough to.

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

This seems less of a privacy checkup and more of a “this is how to browse privately” like all the questions are common sense but things your everyday person is just going to take the easy way out on

I also especially give you an example of a public area there is no expectation for privacy and then say that you need to be careful of how you photograph in that area as people expect privacy, like what lol, don’t go to a public setting and expect privacy, like I won’t intentionally have you in a picture but if it happens it happens. I didn’t know there was any countries that treated that differently

I agree, I have a watch 6 classic, the battery life is absolutely shit. It’s less then 6 months old, I went to bed with it on power save and swim mode to prevent overnight activation via the screen at 80% charge, woke up today at 1pm, it was at 50%,it is now 6Pm and it is at 20%. I will never buy a Samsung watch again lol, they look real fancy but, this is rediculous. you should get more than 24h on a watch.

My old gear sport and my previous watch 3 didn’t have this issue until at least the e year mark.

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

yea, that’s my biggest annoyance with it, if you can’t pass security on the phone (talking to you prepaid carriers who have absolutely shit CS and protocols) you can no longer just hot swap the sim to get your verification code. You are just locked out of your account now. It’s nice that it’s more secure but, also such a pain in the ass for people who don’t call their carrier a lot so they don’t know their security.

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I share your opinion on both of those games. I also was not a huge fan of Monster Hunter or GTA,

Not the person you’re responding to but I definitely think that Library should be able to be made, however I don’t believe that they should be able to prevent a project from going open source in the case of company using the library going under, or if they wanted to keep it closed Source they should have to do something similar to what class action lawsuits do where anyone that is affected by it and opts into the agreement get some sort of compensation. Because it really is like a rug pull you buy a product and then the company makes the product unusable

I think this vastly depends on if there’s malicious intent involved with it, and I mean this on both sides. in the case of what was posted they manipulated the program outside of its normal operating parameters to list a quote for the vehicle. Even if they had stated this AI platform was able to do quotes which for my understanding the explicitly stated it’s not allowed to do, the seller could argue that there is a unilateral mistake involved that the other side of the party knew about and which was not given to the seller or there is very clear fraudulent activity on the buyers side both of which would give the seller the ability to void the contract.

In the case of no buy side manipulation it gets more difficult, but it could be argued that if the price was clearly wrong, the buyer should have known that fact and was being malicious in intent so the seller can withdraw

Of course this is all with the understanding that the program somehow meets the capacity to enter a legally binding agreement of course

also fun fact, Walmart had this happen with their analytical program five or so years ago, and they listed the Roku streaming stick for ~50 less so instead of it being $60 it was listed as 12, all the stores got flooded with online orders for Roku devices because that’s a damn good deal however they got a disclaimer not soon after that any that came in at that price point were to be Auto canceled, which is allowed by the sites TOS

I was curious so I looked at mine, it isn’t accurate, it says 10 hours 22 minutes average, but it says 7 of that is gaming, there’s no way i spend 7 hours of gaming, maybe an hour max a day because the only game I play is ants fallen kingdom which doesn’t require much active tike, just enough time to do dailies so 45 mins? , I’m on social media a hell of a lot more then gaming but my social is only at roughly 2 hours. I don’t think you can rely on it lol

This is stupid, why is the lowest charge range so big. 2.2 lb to 100 lb that is a huge range and you’re telling me there is ranges higher than that? He already has life in prison the hell do they do with the higher ranges

I Just disable cookies by default or have it session only cookies. Back before Firefox supported Auto rejecting or accepting prompts natively I used to use one of those. It would accept the cookies however since it only allowed session based cookies when I closed my browser It would delete them all.

I know a lot of people who are sailing the Seas until the streaming Market crashes. There’s way too many businesses trying to do the same exact thing which has limited the media selection available without paying multiple $12 a month subscriptions. Eventually they will either fold or merge together again

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

unless that comes with either a 600-700$ decrease in price or the readdition of a microSD card slot I’m not interested.

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

for myself I have about 250 gigs of photo/video from my camera since I use it a lot. then about 50 gigs of apps, the lack of an SD card slot is my exclusive reason that I never upgraded from my s20 to newer models. It’s also why I’ve decided to ditch Samsung when my phone finally dies. I just have yet to find a decent alternative that works in my area

If Trump and Biden both died today, what would happen?

Imagine the following scenario: On the 9th of January 2024 in the morning we wake up to news that President of the USA Joe Biden suffered a stroke and died in White House. The administration confirms that the death was entirely natural and no third party contributed to it. Even before the news reach all TV stations another one...

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Honestly, I think if Trump died instantaneous there would be a massive movement claiming that the current Administration was the cause of death and they would use the most recent judicial hearing regarding Seal Team 6 as evidence towards it. There would be no proof of anything because like you said it was a natural death but that would not be enough to prove anything and I believe there would still be riots

As for if the president dropped dead, the vice president would take over and there would likely be an investigation into an assassination attempt but I don’t think anything would come out of it because like mentioned it would be a natural death.

Video game actors speak out after union announces AI voice deal (www.videogameschronicle.com)

According to SAG AFTRA, the deal will “enable Replica to engage SAG-AFTRA members under a fair, ethical agreement to safely create and license a digital replica of their voice. Licensed voices can be used in video game development and other interactive media projects from pre-production to final release.”...

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Honestly this would be a good method. Limit AI voice acting to only single use NPC such as Town folk when you visit a town and then have like shopkeepers or party members or the main character actual voice. You aren’t expecting much out of those temporary characters anyway so them having weird Oddity voices isn’t going to be super jarring for the environment. Plus it will help you as the player realize which characters are supposed to be part of the story and which ones are there for just Scenic effect

TIL the trump campaign directed collaborators to forge and mail in false 2020 electoral documents to try to trick the national archives into certifying trump as the victor in states he lost to Biden. (people.com)

I came across a post in a Michigan community that mentioned this, and i asked if it really happened because it seems so crazy that Republican collaborators would directly mail in fake documents saying Trump won states he lost and I hadn’t even really heard about it....

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

What surprises me is the fact of how little this was actually broadcasted. There was thousands of reports on MSNBC and CNN about how there was claims to be election fraud, but generally it was covering the other side saying it was done to them not actual evidence showing that they did the fraud.

I blame entertainment news as the reasoning for it, they had been much more apt to cover the international conflicts then what’s happening domestically because it’s attracting more viewers

Netflix considers adding in-app purchases and ads to games, report says (techcrunch.com)

According to The Wall Street Journal, the company has had discussions about how to make money from its games for months now, including in-app purchases, putting a price tag on more premium titles and placing ads on games that subscribers to its ad tier have access to. These methods are common (and effective) in the mobile gaming...

Pika ,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I don’t agree with your Microsoft shills comment but, I do agree with the statement that a lot of the “don’t use Unix” posts are either people who haven’t actually tried it/echo chambering it or classic cases of “help I’ve tried nothing and I’ve run out of ideas”. You never see the same comments saying “Don’t use Mac” despite that MacOS is based off the same system and shares almost all of the points stated.

As someone who actually jumps between windows and Mint, I can say that for the everyday person and even gamers nowadays it’s for the most part of seamless transition. LibreOffice is basically a 1:1 copy of MS office and I find my Mint system lightyears more stable then my windows 10 system. For gaming Steam litterally does everything for you now, you don’t even have to mess with wine manually anymore which was my biggest gripe. The only games I have found to not work are games that the devs for some reason decided to intentionally disable support for (talking about you Epic Studios and Roblox). I plan to fully nuke my Windows 10 install when Windows 11 is required in favor of just using a Mint install exclusively, I just lack the energy to do that change when I have a functional system still.

I get the point of the meme, but can I just say I hate routers that give you a default password other than admin or password. Like I get the point of it is to prevent the device from being insecure when the user doesn’t put a password on it. However after a while the back of the router becomes basically unreadable and when you go online and search default admin password for x and their support page says that the password is different per router it’s a little ridiculous. It is a much better approach to just force the password to be changed when you do the initial setup that way you can forget the admin password and factory reset it and still be able to access it where with current day routers if you reset it and you don’t have that little piece of plastic on the back that says the admin password you’re more or less SOL

Honestly if I could go back and just not do college at all I would. I regret going, we are heading into a world that unless you have experience in the field the title is worthless anyway, and more and more companies are dropping education requirements. All I see is the wasted money which is approximately now at 30-40k now. It’s essentially a piece of paper that is worthless it seems
