How is this relevant to Linux? FF release notes get posted here, as FF is the de facto standard browser on Linux distros. Vivaldi isn’t.

I do not want to judge on Vivaldi, I am merely questioning its relevancy to the community here.

Linus_Torvalds ,

I disagree. Classification in combintion wo ith a confidence score is a viable use case for AI.

Linus_Torvalds ,

But the same holds for regression, which you seem to favour. So why do you feel that regression is so much better than classification (which is, when combined with a confidence score, basically regression)?

Windows 7 -> Windows 10 -> Mint -> Kubuntu -> Arch -> Fedora -> Mint -> Fedora.

Linus_Torvalds OP ,

I am aware of that possibility, but a truly FOSS MOBA would be amazing. Custom balancing on different servers, different queues, etc.

Open Source League of Legends remake in the works! (old.reddit.com)

There is a community forming right now that aims to write a MOBA from scratch, mostly fueled due to the Vanguard incident on Linux. I am not affiliated with the project, but wanted to raise attention to it (as I am currently on cold League turkey since a month)....

Linus_Torvalds ,

I noticed a few users starting to do this and it annoys me to no end. You don’t need to put a link in every comment

That’s fair. I feel like that would be a more valid criticism.

Not to mention anything posted on the internet is effectively public domain Well, no.

Linus_Torvalds ,

League is actually working fine, it just had a bug last month. I’ve been playing for 2 years on Linux exclusively and it was unplayable for max 2 weeks.

Linus_Torvalds ,

Cool idea! THis should be more broadly discussed. After some discussion here, where could we share it with the F-Droid community? Is there a forum or such?

My five cents: The problem I see is account stuff. You can use F-Droid without an account, and do not want to require an account for ratings. Yet, having no accounts, it is incredibly easy to manipulate votings.

I would probably prefer a “Git Issue”-like thread for every app, where you have to register. This allows for

  • Deeper conversation, more insightful reviews, instead of “3 starts, UI ugly” (let’s face it, this is not the reason why we use F-Droid)
  • Pointing out code lines in the source code. This could help with bug fixes, malicious stuff, etc.
Linus_Torvalds ,

In how far? I think it is actually a valid criticism of a very strongly opinionated take.

Linus_Torvalds ,

Honestly: Any Ubuntu Fork (such as Mint, Kubuntu, etc) is fine, Arch as well(but harder). Vanilla Ubuntu is ok.

This is not the definitive answer, and you should reevaluate after a time, what you like and don’t like, but for a starter, give those a spin.

What do you mean by that?

Linus_Torvalds ,

I disagree on the painful part. The lutris install is basically 1-click.

Linus_Torvalds ,

Well, I guess that is exactly the problem: No guarantee that some method will work.

GPT-4, prompt: “List 10 words that start and end with the same letter but are not palindromes.”

Even without the palindrome condition, it got some of these and a few palindromes.

Linus_Torvalds ,

According to your logic, 30% of words would satisfy this property.

Linus_Torvalds ,

To be fair, at this point it is LaTeX or raw txt.

I can’t help you with the topic at hand, but consider posting your experience here: www.protondb.com/app/835960?device=any

It is a huge database for all games available on steam. So far, no one has made any reviews, but if you get it working, please write there how (you can include --start-options, drivers, distro etc.). Even if it is not working, write that and what you tried already. This way other people can spend more time on trying to get it working without doing the same steps all over again.

Also, it might be worth checking out in a few days when more people have added their workarounds and comments. Usually, this takes 1-2 weeks.

Linus_Torvalds ,

Thank you so much! We Linux gamers have to stick together!!

Linus_Torvalds ,

(Just letting you two know that this is exactly the kind of mindset I was looking for on Lemmy. Unfortunately, people bring their Reddit habits with them here.)

Linus_Torvalds ,

This is the new “Is $DATETIME_NOW.year the Year of the linux desktop?”.

Linus_Torvalds ,

I can provide nothing specifically to the topic at hand, but a great resource is ProtonDB (here the CS2 specific page). You can see which launch options, workarounds, etc work on which distro, GPU, …

If you get it working, consider posting there, so others can benefit from your knowledge 😀

Linus_Torvalds ,

Can’t you just clone it and run the command?

Linus_Torvalds ,

Yes, but that wasn’t my advice.

Ofc I would not recommens this to a newbie; but I think Comment OP can inspect the script themselves (as it is right there on Github).

Linus_Torvalds ,

I know that MIT is no Copyleft license, but is that really a problem?

Linus_Torvalds ,

I do understand your scepticism towards companies; the reason for my question was that I got the impression from your first comment that you don’t like/install MIT code and was just confused as to why someone might dislike that.

Linus_Torvalds ,

What does that mean for my RX 5600XT?

Linus_Torvalds ,

Thanks! I just ran vulkaninfo and it’s there. Btw: You can check your version apparently with vulkaninfo | grep driverInfo.

Linus_Torvalds ,

Coo, thanks for the info! FYI, the best place for those kind of Linux reviews is ProtonDB (here directly linked to the game). You can specify and filter for –launch-options, distro, GPU, …

YSK that Ecosia, the search engine that plants trees, will donate all profits on September 13th (tomorrow) to victims of the recent Moroccan earthquake (blog.ecosia.org)

Ecosia is great in general, they’ve done stuff like this before for wildfires and such, and they are carbin negative and use 100% of their profits for helping the planet...

Linus_Torvalds ,

While it can be somewhat cynical to play out environmental vs social issues, I agree with the scepticism here.

Linus_Torvalds ,

This is hilarious, thanks for the giggle :))

Also exposure to the country. Just driving through it (or sitting in an all-exclusive resort for that matter) is not what I consider travelling/exploring.
