A heat wave is bringing searing temperatures to New York and the I-95 corridor. Washington DC has hit 100 degrees (www.cnn.com)

A dangerous heat wave is bringing sweltering temperatures to much of the US this weekend, including over parts of the Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic. Meanwhile, a tropical system could develop this weekend through the southwest Gulf of Mexico.

HeyJoe ,

Summer just started… at least wait until the year is over before making that incorrect judgment.

HeyJoe ,

The other guys.

HeyJoe ,

Where I am from everyone used Venmo… I never wanted it, I had PayPal forever due to ebay I think in the 2000’s so why did I need another service that did the exact same thing as PayPal and it’s even owned by the same company! Sadly, I lost that battle and caved. Idk why everyone said let’s use venmo or why it got big, but I’m stuck out of convenience for others now.

Personally, I love Zelle the most since it’s a direct transfer from bank account to bank account and available immediately without the 2 day wait like the other services.

HeyJoe ,

At least someone’s outpacing inflation.

HeyJoe ,

I am not ready to play it due to life stuff, but I absolutely have to because I know my friends will be playing it day 1 just like before, and if I didn’t join them I would have missed out on some of the best online gaming I’ve had in probably 10 years.

HeyJoe ,

Did something happen to the game that made it broken? I played this for the first few months when it dropped with about 3 other friends, and we never had those issues then. We would get invaded maybe 20% of the time, but 50% we actually would win, so it was fun.

HeyJoe ,

It was always my dream to go to E3 back in the 2000’s. I don’t care if it would have been terrible. That period was so special, and I miss the days when events like this told the story of what’s to come in the next year and everyone tried so hard to put out the best trailer. I think that’s why I was so sad when it started to crumble, and I realized it’s never going to happen for me. My only backup now is to somehow go to Tokyo Game Show.

HeyJoe ,

I’ll admit I use an app to keep me from going idle, but I also was forced to come back 3 days a week and I bust my ass when I am there plus the mornings I work from home and only use it to sit back for a few extra hours in the afternoons when nothing else is pending. Also if anyone reaches out I do answer and hop on to fix or look at issues.

I wish I had a job that had such little work that I could just do whatever most days.

HeyJoe ,

As someone who is also a phone system admin, if you had an older system, that feature was a pretty expensive feature to add on. We never purchased it because to buy what was needed to do it would’ve costed a ton. We did recently switch to a cloud pbx a few months ago and the one advantage I’ve seen is most of the high end features seem to be more readily available and cheaper when bundled with their packages so we finally got a lot of these options. RIP are the days of on prem systems.

I guess my point is I would imagine a lot of places still use older systems possibly and will wait as long as possible before upgrading and probably do not have the call back feature.

HeyJoe ,

Yup, we were Avaya. Once Covid started, we looked into finally getting WFM and other features like this because we were a place that directly increased call volume due to covid but were unable to keep up with the amount of concurrent calls. We wanted to use the call back feature to help the agents who were overwhelmed and wouldn’t be able to get a large increase in help anytime soon. Especially since we knew these levels would only be temporary as well. In the end, it was not approved.

HeyJoe ,

It’s so good we will get it twice this year.

HeyJoe ,

Same! I didn’t even have a computer till the year I graduated high school because they cost too much then. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of people had them. We were the odd family in the neighborhood. Not that anyone cared. Once I got one, the only social media type stuff that I remember using was AIM, Photobucket, and shudder LiveJournal. I couldn’t imagine navigating the internet today where everyone has figured out exactly how to exploit you for everything without you even knowing because you are too young to understand still.

HeyJoe ,

And even if that guy they hire is really good, there is still a large period of time where that person has to learn the ropes and is most likely less useful than the person who already knew the ins and outs. Also, most of the time, they are never as good…

HeyJoe ,

Ps+ top tier. I always had ps+ since it’s what I have always used. I always used to renew at black Friday to get a year for about 33% less and once they did the plan change a few years ago I swooped in and brought up a bunch of cheap years since the price was going up. I have until spring next year before it’s finally over. Not sure if I will renew, not because it’s bad (which I don’t think it is at all) but because I barely have time to get anything out of it, sadly. There was some great moments where I stopped buying games and just enjoying the triple A ones they gave every month. Now I just don’t have time to play anything… maybe one day I’ll be free again.

HeyJoe ,

My kid is the same way. He does play a few things, but he has zero interest in any of the games I play. He won’t even watch, just says this game looks boring… I now know what my parents felt when I didn’t want to do the things they wanted me to.

Americans are choking on surging fast-food prices. "I can't justify the expense," one customer says (www.cbsnews.com)

Kevin Roberts remembers when he could get a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink from Five Guys for $10. But that was years ago. When the Virginia high school teacher recently visited the fast-food chain, the food alone without a beverage cost double that amount....

HeyJoe ,

Same here, but the reason this doesn’t work is because a bic Mac meal doesn’t cost $15. It’s more like $10 or even lower with deals. If you are on a budget and have no time to cook, I can see how the cheaper option can still sway the decision. For me, it’s lower than that and will settle for Wendy’s 4 for 5. At $5 bucks, it’s absolutely worth it every now and then when I just want something cheap and quick.

HeyJoe ,

It’s only a little over a year old by now and even the first release was better than most of the stuff out there, but what it is today makes it better than anything I have ever used before on my phone and that includes premium apps like Spotify. At this point, I can’t even think of stuff I would need anymore, but I can’t wait to see what the next year brings.

Another note, the developer also created yatse, which I used over a decade ago as my remote control for kodi. Also equally as awesome as this is. He is very good at what he does, haha.

HeyJoe ,

I have a library that’s been growing for about 20 years now. I don’t think I got too serious until around 2009, which is when I discovered music servers to host my library and quickly realized how bad its structure was. It took years of me getting folders done correctly followed by then working on tags. Automation scared me to much since the results were not always 100%. Once it was done I have kept a system to keep it that way the best I can.

So for me once I get new content I use the app tagscanner to edit everything to the way I like, then I drop them into music Picard were I found a tutorial online a few years ago to set it up to just edit music genres. I found the one thing I never got right was music genres so finding this tool was incredible. Took months to run large sections of the library though. Now I got every track labeled with up to 5 genre tags. Once that is done I change folder names to what I want, drop them into my music directory folder which is root > artist > album (don’t care about year since it’s tagged). Scan music into my musicbee app and if any are missing covers I right click and tell it to find them. Then do a scan with navidrome to add it all there.

HeyJoe ,

Everything I do is manual, I don’t really have duplicates unless I get singles then get the album once it releases. Even then, unless the single comes with extra bonus tracks (seems to be a lost past time, never see this anymore) I will delete the singles after.

Here is the forum post I originally found years ago to setup music picard to tag multiple genres, which is the only setup that I have that took extra effort and not just use out of the box defaults.

getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=35975.0

HeyJoe ,

I agree, I only came here in July after they finally followed through with pulling the plug on 3rd party apps. This place has grown a lot in 1 year. Still needs more communities for the smaller hobbies, plus less memes and political content, and it would be perfect. 99% of everyone I talk with here is super nice and helpful as well.

HeyJoe ,

Speaking of FF7, I am just about finished with Rebirth and all I thought was wow I didn’t see a single update and it played flawlessly. Just shows it can still happen, just super rare.

HeyJoe ,

No, home and pro EOL are the same date as enterprise. Enterprise editions are allowed the extra time because Microsoft already knows an insane amount of businesses will not be fully moved off 10 by that date and instead of making themselves look bad, they setup this program to tell everyone hey where here for you and also ready to make an insane amount of bonus money.

Idk if the article also mentions, but every year after the first, the price increases for each additional year. The did this with Windows 7 as well, I know all about it because I work for a company that had to do it for 2 years. Once the time comes you replace the systems license with a new key that continues to allow updates to work.

Navidrome/Subsonic client that supports smart playlists within smart playlists

We are running Navidrome to serve up our music, and I want to use smart playlists to listen to my music on “random”, but in a way that surfaces higher rated songs more often. Doing it this way requires a smart playlist that contains other smart playlists....

HeyJoe ,

I currently use Navidrome as well, but I really don’t use smart playlists like that. For me, I use Symfonium on Android, which offers a ton of options and is incredible. In all my years of using a personal server to host music, this app has been the best by a lot. As for desktop apps, I don’t use them much, but when I do, I use Musicbee, which also offers unlimited customization if you’re willing to put time into it. It used to have a subsonic plug-in, but I have no idea if it’s still active. I just use the local file location and treat it as its own entity. If the subsonic plug-in still works, it may allow you to do what you want since everything seems possible in Musicbee from my experience.

HeyJoe ,

As did my uncle… from my understanding, it happened when he was 12 way back in the early 70s, which left him deaf and has impacted his entire life, not for the better. I wish I could see the life he would have lived if that had never happened.

HeyJoe ,

Well, they will always have someone who can weigh in as a final decision when they both disagree on something. Sadly, I think it will be a bit one-sided.

HeyJoe ,

I agree. I was a big fan of Eastward and Risk of Rain. I need a good mobile game.

HeyJoe ,

I did play through that as well. I got it when it was free on psn a year or 2 ago. Played through most of it. I agree it was a fantastic game and had a lot of fun.

HeyJoe ,

I have a soft spot for hungry man dinners… I never had them often but even growing up they were probably a once every 3 months type of fast cheap meal. Tried them a few years ago and it was shockingly still the same, which I can’t say about most things 20 years later. I also love the brownie! If you use the oven it comes out fine and very crispy.

HeyJoe ,

I am definitely not like others, I have only paid like 3 times on OF and they were like $5 each. Sometimes you just really want to see what that person looks like. 99% of the time I don’t care and free is cool. Never got exploited, or had an unhealthy attachment.

HeyJoe ,

I watched the trailer and saw that it was Bigmode as well and got even more excited. Looks like a solid game so far.

HeyJoe ,

I don’t make 200k, but together with my wife, we make a little under that. We both have cars, and both are paid off. I still have the first car I ever brought, which is a Nissan Sentra 2006 basic model. So, 17 years on the same car and hers is a 2015 Toyota. We do have 2 kids and brought a house in 2015. The last 4 years have been almost impossible to make ends meet, and all we try to do is survive with the very occasional do something for the kids. I have tons of housework I can’t do but also can’t pay for either. Because of this, we also can’t move until it’s taken care of, so we’re kind of stuck here as well. We have no money to save or invest. Did we make some bad decisions? Sure, probably shouldn’t have had kids for starters. They cost a fortune. But my point is we aren’t doing anything crazy here, it’s just that more and more things are taking our money and prices also went up. It sucks because all I want to do is live and get by, I don’t really have any grandiose dreams of doing crazy things or buying tons of stuff. I just want to get by as my parents did, which seems impossible today.

HeyJoe ,

We purchased the house for around 300k, and even with the market today, it’s about 500k. Sure, it could go for higher whenever we do sell, but it’s not an investment. With our current loan we will have paid over 500k over 30 years, so I really am not expecting to make out from this. The only way this makes me money is when I retire (which is close to payoff anyway) and move someplace way cheaper than we’re we live now.

HeyJoe ,

I live in North NJ. From my understanding, it’s about as bad as it gets. House was 330k 10 years ago. We also have crazy property taxes, so that alone is 13k a year. I also live in a very rural area which was the only option for the area if we wanted some space and also keep house prices semi cheap.

HeyJoe ,

I use privacy. Link current card so you can create merchant cards with restrictions. If it gets hacked just delete the card and create a new one. Also if you got charged once another charge from another merchant will not work. I can worry about 1 less thing in life, until privacy gets hacked…

HeyJoe ,

I want 100 Mario back… I really wish they would bring it back for a few months whenever these events happen.

HP’s 'All-In' Printer Rental Watches Everything You Print, Tells HP All About It (www.extremetech.com)

In addition to tracking the printer’s online or offline status, page count, and ink levels, your rented printer will look at the types of documents you’re printing (e.g., PDF, JPG, Word), the types of devices that initiated the print job, “peripheral devices,” and other “metrics” related to the service, the All-In...

HeyJoe ,

That’s what I was thinking! I never paid for a printer subscription service, and I never will, but they are really telling me I get to pay them to take all my data as well? If this is marketed at businesses in any way its a privacy nightmare, which would probably mean even if they wanted to use them they couldn’t due to sharing confidential information. I also wonder how many companies won’t know this until they already use them and realize HP has data on them that now holds them liable.

HeyJoe ,

Yeah it’s sad but it makes me happy I was always cheap af and never really enjoyed the “premium” stuff like big Mac or whoppers. With the phone app and its deals paired with the cheapest offering most of those places I can still spend like 5-7 bucks and get more than enough crap food for a meal. I am pretty bad myself, but I also have no idea how anyone can enjoy 5 straight days of any fast food. It’s a once a week thing, maybe twice, depending on time and budget. Again I know it’s bad!

Epic Games reportedly hit by 189GB hack, including login and payment info (www.rockpapershotgun.com)

The report comes from Cyber Daily, who also broke the news of last year’s confirmed hack attack on Insomniac Games. The site claims that new ransomware group Mogilevich are the culprits, as per the screencap of a darkweb posting above, and that the hackers are now trying to get Epic or another party to pay up for the return of...

HeyJoe ,

For me I started using a service called Privacy a few years ago and haven’t looked back so far. It’s changed how I handle all online transactions. It let’s you create virtual cards that are either good once or forever and once it’s used by that merchant it’s tied to them. So if someone ever did try to charge you that wasn’t that exact merchant it gets blocked. You can set daily, and monthly limits as well and pause the card or close it whenever. So I would use this virtual card for the payment on epic and then this happens and all I do is close it out and open a new one. So far I did have 1 place that had my card charged from a place that wasn’t them. The cool part is you know who almost screwed you because of the card thats being used. It was a local pizza place and I called to let them know they probably got hacked.

HeyJoe ,

My bad lol. It is really great though!

Fast food restaurant Wendy’s plans Uber-like surge pricing, with digital menu boards that change prices depending on demand (edition.cnn.com)

Fast food restaurant Wendy’s plans Uber-like surge pricing, with digital menu boards that change prices depending on demand::The price of a Wendy’s Frosty could soon fluctuate throughout the day as the chain looks to introduce Uber-like surge pricing on its menu.

HeyJoe ,

I feel like this would only work if all the other fast food places did the same thing… please, please don’t do that! Seriously, if it’s peak time like lunch, why would I ever pick Wendy’s, which is now super expensive, or just get shitty food from the other place a block away for half the price?

Also, it’s going to be even more insulting when they no longer offer the cheapest items they have today, which I will assume will never be this low again, even at low points of the day. I really hope this campaign is a huge failure and the people who pitched it are fired because I really don’t want to see a future where this is possibly the standard one day.

HeyJoe ,

Which one is that? I still see 4 for $4.44 or 4 for $5 deals plus I think some that are $6 where i live (and i live in one of the most expensive places in the US). It’s still one of the best deals for fast food, plus using the app gets you something else for free to add on normally. Like right now it’s a free 6 piece on Wednesdays with any purchase. So a burger, fry, 10 nugs, and a drink for $5 is a good deal these days, even if it is terrible for you.

HeyJoe ,

I just looked and I may give it a try. Looks good. It’s worth mentioning it’s in Alpha, some people don’t enjoy trying to play games that early on and it explains why it’s free.

HeyJoe ,

Nah, it finally came out that it was due to some work they were doing that caused it. I wonder who got fired for that blunder. Wouldn’t want to be that guy…

HeyJoe ,

Normally, the odd times are because someone can’t work the weekend, which is crazy to me since I am someone who accepts all the worst go live times…

Although the more I think about it, would there really have been a fantastic day or time? Even weekends suck because it affects everything so even then it would have sucked plus if it did bring down companies those people are now doing work on the weekends as well. Idk if I disagree with a late time smack in the middle of the week date for this the more I think about it.

HeyJoe ,

That’s unfortunate for the small local music and dive bar near me called dingbatz then…

HeyJoe ,

It is… oh boy. I have only been twice since my friend has a metal band that plays there sometimes. I never knew and I doubt he knows that as well since he is definitely not into that either.
