when I got my current car, it had a stupid, dumb radio with a cd deck. I installed a cheap double dim with a touch screen on it and asked if they could replace the ashtray/powersocket thing. The piece they had that fit under the cover/door had a USB hub/charging station that I could drop a stack of phones in (including one connected to carplay/android auto on the new deck.)

that was worth the $20 to install it.

Not to mention, Russian forces have been using these types of munitions, but with much higher dud rates, already.

To be clear, it wasn’t a “tourist sub”… so maybe the first regulation should be defining exactly what that is,

FuglyDuck ,
@FuglyDuck@lemmy.world avatar

Absolutely.

The issue is that the regulations that do exist allow them to skirt it by not offering a hard, and broad, definitions of ‘tourist subs’.

One of the things that annoys me about vegans… is they always try to convince me [this recipe] always tastes like the real thing.

And I think any one who eats meat on a regular basis is going to know an impossible burger is not beef- it might be the closest, sure.

Probably the best way to “convert” people- or encourage reductions- is to be less apologetic. Tofu is wonderful and delicious as it’s own thing- but as tofu-chicken or tofurky or anything of that sort, it sets expectations that can never be met.

Forgetting to mention a dish that stands in its own happens to be meatless… well, my parents were halfway through the second bowl of a tofu stir fry before they realized it.

So… chatgpt is telling dad jokes.

…. Do you think… nah. That can’t happen…. Right? AIs can’t make baby AIs?

FuglyDuck ,
@FuglyDuck@lemmy.world avatar

for a human, that’s probably too much information to be useful. That’s why chatGPT is so powerful. It can sort through all that cruft and find “relevant” information.

it’s an incredibly complicated set of If-then statements that lead it through a decision tree; ultimately responding to a prompt using what is most commonly followed up in similar prompts on the internet.

It fails on knowing if the information is useful, or even correct, however. and it receives the biases inherited both from the people who wrote the if-then statements and the data to which it was fed. Further, the narrow AI’s we have today have no agency, no creativity or intuition. It fakes all of these things in order to make us believe it’s ‘real’- that’s what it’s programed to do.

Would a cat-toy laser pointer distract a pilot in broad daylight?

A few months ago I got into an argument on TikTok about this. Some guy posted a video where he pretended to shine a laser pointer at a plane during the day, along with his mugshot and a news story about getting arrested for it. It was clearly a joke/photoshopped because the news story said it happened at midnight....

FuglyDuck ,
@FuglyDuck@lemmy.world avatar

Depends on the power.

The little things that run off tiny button batteries? Almost certainly not. The bigger/more powerful ones might.

That said, don’t. It’s stupid to try, especially if you think it could. I mean think about it. You think it might blind a pilot? That’s a lot of lives your potentially putting at risk.

What possible motivation could cause you to want to risk it?

The photo is ai, at least, in part.

Look at the face of the second guy. The eyes are blurry in a way that wouldn’t happen with a camera.

Then there’s the dress on the girl in the back- either it’s covering her head (and she’s wearing a wig,) or it’s her skin. There’s no neckline, anywhere

Also her face is a manikin, and the hand going towards that hand dryer is… weird.

FuglyDuck ,
@FuglyDuck@lemmy.world avatar

The woman’s dress is her skin, looking around the neckline.

Their faces are all lifeless- like manikins. The eyes are also suspect

Her hand on the dryer is not a normal hand at all

No, actually it doesn’t.

You’ll notice that a) Waymo cars kill people (there’s pending litigation,) and b) they’re only in places with basically perfect weather.

Self driving cars cannot handle any sort of real winter driving.

apologies… I seem to have conflated a few items from my feed. There were no deaths. that said, Waymo is defending itself from a lawsuit in SF (iirc) because of an uptick in accidents, and the NTSFB peeps say that waymo is involved in the most accidents (per road hour, IIRC) of all the autonomous vehicles.

They’re also suing (or were suing) the California DMV to keep their accident records secret as a “trade secret”. lol.

    Yes. it is bad for the consumer.

    Microsoft is the company that started the whole Embrace, Extend and Extinguish thing to get where it is. Activision aren’t exactly saints either.

    basically, what the merger is going to allow them to do is continue to produce subpar games and focus instead on just getting rid of the competition rather than producing decent games. neither studio really has had any new IP. Neither has done anything really innovative in the space.

    EV’s have a much smaller pool of people qualified to repair them.

    but also, one of the reasons I’m not buying a tesla or a rivian is because a “traditional” car maker would have known about repair-ability and made plans to simply things. the lack of automotive experience is telling, especially in Tesla’s.
