Rant: vanilla local app search is ridiculously bad

For a search company I can’t believe how terrible the Android app search is. I can’t even search “bank” for my banking apps, and there doesn’t really seem to be any metadata except for the title that goes into the search. Which is absolutely ridiculous given how many companies name their apps something cReAtIvE like...

angrynomad ,

I’d just go with 2fa, but I guess if you wanna type out city garbage trash recycling for Microsoft auth go ahead

angrynomad ,

My favorite is when you type part of a word and it doesn’t even show all the matching apps, just a few at random

Americans are choking on surging fast-food prices. "I can't justify the expense," one customer says (www.cbsnews.com)

Kevin Roberts remembers when he could get a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink from Five Guys for $10. But that was years ago. When the Virginia high school teacher recently visited the fast-food chain, the food alone without a beverage cost double that amount....

Nord n10 piece of shit… Never again getting a oneplus

Lot of proprietary google stuff in asop, especially binary blobs

I didn’t even know this was a thing, but now I suddenly want to pirate Nintendo games

angrynomad ,

Why is nearly every top level comment with obvious spelling errors?

angrynomad ,

What I dont get is why so many years later, their android app still won’t auto sync

angrynomad ,

Nothing to configure…you specify fodkers, but they won’t auto upload or download

angrynomad ,

Stick divestos or calyxos on that and you’re good for more years

angrynomad ,

True discontinued firmware updates…, but look at the actual threat model. Why is calyx a joke?

angrynomad ,

How much maintenance does a simple SMS app need? What random apps are system apps? Beomite is not installed, not even sure qksms is, but I always use it. Never had a single issue removing any apps. Seems like you’re just very uninformed

angrynomad ,

Chromium BASED on chromite, which appears to be actively developed. I use mull which works well. Default SMS is “messaging” app.

angrynomad ,

org.chromium.chrome

com.android.messaging

Idk if I would promote calyxos though, it works, but it’s often buggy for me. I think I’ll go with graphene again, the microg shit is just that…

And mull f-droid.org/packages/us.spotco.fennec_dos/Which I think is maintained by divestos, another interesting one, I forget why I didn’t go with them

angrynomad ,

No, it was a “bug” in windows that existed for way too many years

What incentive is there at all to work with UBI? Why would anyone try hard at anything if you’re not rewarded?

angrynomad ,

I don’t think anyone is thinking of the broader implications of this, they rather downvote opposing opinions. If UBI starts, where’s the money come from? Higher taxes, in turn higher product cost, which just completes the cycle, making ubi not enough to live on, making an increase needed. They already tried this with minimum wage, it’s still what $7? Full time work won’t even pay for your apartment, let alone 80 hour weeks

angrynomad ,

I really don’t get it. I use wefwef and don’t see any nsfw, like at all. You just simply uncheck it on your home instance. And just learned today wefwef also has a nsfw toggle which was off for me

angrynomad ,

If money is involved, your gut is right. Look at the comment history of all these accounts… One comment… Promoting bitwarden… That should tell you everything.

Look at keepass, self host your database…or not, and compatible with every platform

angrynomad , (edited )

Why does this comment have so many up votes?

EDIT: Notice how not one single comment to this, just down votes, I’m 100% certain these are all fake upvotes, like all the other single commenters.

angrynomad ,

Your only comment is bitwarden? You paid for this?..

angrynomad ,

KeePass does that for free…

All these upvotes for bitwarden seem really suspicious

angrynomad ,

Visiting the project looks like you need to set up an account with them regardless

angrynomad ,

Just wait till you have to pay per email. You’re not still using Gmail are you?

angrynomad ,

It’s free because you’re the product. All that content is scanned

angrynomad ,

I work in cybersecurity, yes I’m paranoid, because companies do abuse your data.

angrynomad ,

I’m honestly more surprised liliputing still exists, that used to be an awesome diy in car computer forum

angrynomad ,

I think the appeal was supposed to be all drivers are open source. where as even with custom roms, you still have proprietary firmware blobs that must be updated by the manufacturer to prevent any exploits
