Eat no or little processed foods, lots of vegetables, moderated meat, and move around so that your guts can work (digestion is a physical process), eat more in morning and lunch, light dinner early, drink a lot of water, and you’d be surprised how many health problems go away

What’s not well known is that dams also have a limited life – they silt up. They produce most hydro power when new, which declines as silt fills the dam, raising the bottom/lowering head.

There’s a great book I have somewhere, is it CADILLAC DESERT? about the big 20th century push to “tame nature” and dam every river to make it “produce”. Total folly.

Many sparkling waters contain sodium bicarbonate and other salts and minerals in small quantities. None of them are bad for you.

Club soda is probably alkaline. I doubt any of them are acidic enough to harm your teeth.

But find some pH testing strips and just test. Easy enough. Hot tub/swimming pools, aquariums, use em.

Slightly off neutral pH (what is that. 7.5 or so? RTFM) is nothing. It has to be pretty acidy to harm yr teeth I’d think.

“living off the grid” is a privileged, spoiled white person idea. The amount of physical space and resources it takes to pull off requires you to be rich – or having someone else pay for it (national forests etc).

We are communal, social beings. We band together for good reason. And going “out on your own” is literally impossible anyway – you’re taking the knowledge you gained living communally til now, plus books tools etc.

What nonsense. Preppers and survivalists are mostly right wing, it takes that level of self deceit to attempt.

Yeah there’s lefty/hippy ones too, and I know a bit about some, was around and took part in partial attempts.

There is a WONDERFUL book, BATTLECRY OF FREEDOM, (McPherson) covers civil war era in detail, using contemporary accounts. One of a dozen world-changing books in my life.

It’s also like scifi: the 1840s etc was the start of particular world changing science and tech: telegraph (instant electric communication), railroads, and germ theory. There was an angle where this was a technological war…

The use of the word alarms me, I admit, because it’s a right wing word used to paint everything progressive as extreme as Soviet Union or CCP under Mao, the collective taking away of private property and difference and advantage.

“Communism” is at this point a kind of highschool level argument of egalitarianism, an idealized abstraction.

Then there’s Marxism etc tl:dr…

No matter what you think of some of the concepts embedded (a few are actually progressive or seem so) it’s a fraught ideology, so laden with dipshit baggage few sensible people talk about it seriously.

(Marxism is useful as an analytical tool to discuss capitalism, but no one sensible wants to live in a marxist state!)

Broadly speaking, so-called conservative folk are not creative. They resist change, and trying new things is umm trying new things.

As an aside, “communist” has a very specific meaning, and I think (hope, assume) people here are using it like exaggerated lefty. But it’s not at all.
