It’s very well done! It wasn’t really on my radar, but I got it for free from epic, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ditto Kingdom Come: Deliverance. I think the only things I’ve paid for on the epic store are the dlc from those gems.

Too soon to say; I’m merely a dabbler so far! I wanted to make a gif from this TNG scene, but it’s at the beginning of an episode and has credits obscuring it. So I spent a while trying to figure out the optimal method of removing them. Tried some online AI tools, but wasn’t getting the results I wanted, so I’m doing it frame by frame in GIMP, figuring out layer masks and stuff. I had messed around a bit with Photoshop before, so it’s not wholly alien.

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, it’s definitely confusing at this point, trying to keep all the layers and masks straight. Most of the work done so far has been: ok, that was time-consuming, and I can’t really use this result, but I’ve learned something. Doing some parallel messing about with Shotcut.

    Oh I dunno, they get so much screen time in Voyager that anyone who’s watched the series can’t help but remember them. Usually what people remember is how badly written they are as major antagonists. Having read a bit about their origin story, it was a real shit show from start to finish. Uninspired, reactionary garbage.

It’s tough, because although I think these feelings are valid, they can also prevent me from expressing myself creatively.

First of all, Hamas seems to have developed a home-grown rocket manufacturing capability, undoubtedly with the support of the IRGC. While they probably hold some precision-guided munitions in reserve, they’ve yet to demonstrate that. So, at present, any reference to Hamas missiles is moot.

    Moreover, Hamas has, in recent days, specifically targeted Israeli civilians. Setting aside any partisan reporting, there is overwhelming evidence that Hamas intentionally murdered hundreds of civilians. That being the case, your imprecation that

    I’m reminded of the old aphorism that would crop up occasionally in the military, particularly when discussing hypothetical scenarios w/r/t The Law of Land Warfareand rules of engagement: it’s better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. I’m not endorsing this sentiment; it’s kind of repellent, really. Same energy though, I thought.

    I’m happy that it introduced some new people to Star Trek. I think the diversity and representation on the show really resonated with some people, and made them feel more seen. I think these positive things it did probably outweigh any weaknesses the show had, in a larger perspective.

    Personally, many elements of the writing, directing, and cinematography of the show really rubbed me the wrong way. It is, in my view, more akin to a Young Adult series than any previous iterations of Trek. It’s definitely an intentional appeal to younger viewers, and I feel like it probably succeeded in that. It’s not for me, but that’s ok.

    I like the idea that Voyager being stranded in the Delta Quadrant is playing back on Earth as a reality show, and they have to keep viewership numbers up if they ever want to make it home. Kind of like Avenue 5.

    I thoroughly enjoyed it. Shame they’re not making a third series, but it’s got to be hard to get commitments from such a big ensemble cast. Also I believe there was some merger fuckery that affected it, and they really did fuck-all to promote it. If you’ve liked any of Iannucci’s other stuff, definitely check it out.
