CCMan1701A ,

Thanks. Droid-ify has their repo in the list for repos to add so I just enabled it and reinstalled.

CCMan1701A ,

I don’t want to talk about my 13 shares

CCMan1701A ,

The pre 2 was the sweet version, but webos is all I ever wanted. 😭

CCMan1701A ,

Towards the end you could easily load custom kernels to try and make the os less laggy. Ahh those were the days …

better grinder for pour over?

I know high end grinders are probably worth it for espresso, but for pour-over coffee does it make that much difference? I use a Capresso Infinity at either fine coarse or medium coarse and that’s about it. Visibly the grind size does look a bit variable to me. Since I’m already in conical bur territory here, are higher end...

CCMan1701A ,

I went through this debate myself and ended on the Encore ESP with a 3rd party bellows. I use the wet beans trick for static issues and the bellow deals with my zero retention needs. It is loud however otherwise perfect for aeropress and V60 duty.

CCMan1701A OP ,

Yeah, I’m not sure I want to get another bag for a while. It tastes like I’m drinking burnt dirt runoff lol I think my garden likes it however. It’s fine, I’m mixing it in and making something that tastes good.

CCMan1701A OP ,

How is it? I’ve never purchased a bag.

CCMan1701A OP ,

I use the winning recipe from the world championship, I think getting the second one (2009). You like brew the coffee for 15 seconds and then done. I only use 14g max, but it’s basically instant coffee that tastes like great coffee.

Ahh I found it:

Coffee: 19.5–20g Grind: Slightly coarser than filter grind Water: 200ml @ 75°C Brewer: Inverted Filter: Paper, soaked

Directions:

  1. Stir 4 times
  2. Stop stirring, secure the filter and turn at around 10 seconds (total contact time around 15 sec.)
  3. Press and serve

I’ve used it on decaf medium roast, Kona, and my current Kona blend and it works great, but I needed to adjust the amount of coffee as it can brew pretty strong for my tastes. I go between 14g and 12g of coffee and use a grind size equal to that I use on the V60, which is 26/27 on my Encore ESP.

I use water that’s 175 F, which is close enough. I also put in more water… I have the plunger pulled all the way below the number 4 and pour water all the way to just before the top to leave a small space to stir without making a mess. I think it’s like 225 or so ml. I use a chopstick to stir.

I also see a few other second places ones that are only a few steps. For me the aeropress recipe needs to be like 4 steps and take under a minute.

CCMan1701A OP ,

Ohhhh, I’ll have a Wegmans near me soon. 👍

CCMan1701A OP ,

Yeah, a smaller mug for the aeropress for sure. It’s only like 220ml I think

CCMan1701A OP ,

Sweet deal. Yeah you’ll figure out what works for your flow. It’s fun to play with.

CCMan1701A OP ,

I’ve been thinking about this some more and I suspect when you change over to metal filter your brew may be a lot closer to the French press. Let us know! I’m still rocking the paper filters.

Also, which coffee are you using?

CCMan1701A OP ,

Nice. Yeah Kona is nice once a year. Lol too pricey to be all the time. I’m exploring the beans available at my local food stores for now after trying a few other mail order options.

CCMan1701A ,

Should be listed as 9001. That way IT’S OVER 9000!!!

CCMan1701A ,

I use them all the time for contractors and architects. Nothing else …

CCMan1701A ,

You just need your mom to date someone that works at a secret government base, “borrow” their badge, swap the uranium with dish soap, and good to go.

CCMan1701A ,

Dang, I just got a heart monitor that synced to Google fit to get my target heart points tracked…

CCMan1701A ,

😅 ok great.

CCMan1701A ,

I’m using polar bears. 🤞

CCMan1701A ,

I got the coospo one, but found the polar apps easy enough to use.

CCMan1701A ,

Have you read Dracula or Jurassic Park?

CCMan1701A ,

I recommend Jurassic Park as it is different enough from the movie and a good book. If you want some classic reading, then Dracula is a fun read I think. I enjoy the style of that book with journal entries and letters between friends. It seems ahead of its time to me, but I am likely wrong about this.

CCMan1701A ,

After two bags of tinker decaf, I picked up a bag of Kona from my local dealer. I’ll likely brew a few v60s and then back to the aeropress.

I’ve been using the winning recipe from the second aeropress competition. I don’t understand, but it makes great coffee in under 30 seconds.

CCMan1701A ,

Sweet. Need to see about running this as an app on my phone for the next port :)

CCMan1701A ,

With removable batteries, you can swap in a fresh pair. Not ideal, but a possibility now.

CCMan1701A ,

I’ve been to the Amazon fresh a few times and it’s alright.

CCMan1701A ,

I would agree that I do not have a degree in journalism.

CCMan1701A ,

It’s interesting that they gather so much information that it takes over an hour for them to report back what you purchased.

CCMan1701A ,

It’s fine, I’m totally unfazed by your comment. 👍

CCMan1701A ,

It’s so well organized. I’m impressed by that over anything.

CCMan1701A ,

How is the decaf? I’m on a journey. Finished paper plane’s and not moving on to tinker’s this month.

CCMan1701A ,

I’ve been playing a lot with the V60 and aeropress the last month. Time to get the French press out for some fun.

CCMan1701A ,

I have some of that criobrew I haven’t used in a while, let me mix in some with my coffee for fun

CCMan1701A ,

I remember when WebOS had unified messaging. Those were the days. 👴

CCMan1701A ,

We can cry together.

CCMan1701A ,

Use less water (should go sour) and see how it tastes and then use more water (go from just right to weak).

Then, start playing with the amount of grinds. Try more and see what happens with the fixed water you like. Then go less.

Then you can play with the grind size. Lol there is a coffee compass image you can search for as well to help see what causes things, but play with the water amount first it’s the easiest.

I want to get into coffee, where do I start?

So I have drank coffee on and off since I was a teenager, and I recently took probably a 2 year break from it. When I was drinking coffee, it was usually because they had a pod system at work, and it was an excuse to get up from my desk and take a break. With that said, I have been watching this Netflix show Resident Alien...

CCMan1701A ,

Aeropress, but be sure you understand how much coffee it makes. You might want the XL version or not.

CCMan1701A ,

If you don’t want to spend on a grinder, find a store that sells beans and see if they will grind for you. Get it in 6oz bags.

Don’t forget to play with different roast types.

CCMan1701A ,

I switched to Hot Cereal ( red mill ten grain) as my regular cereal was getting so expensive that I could justify my breakfast costs. Oat Milk+Cereal =$$ While what I switched to isn’t the cheapest option, it keeps me going till lunch and I just add water, honey, and calcium powder to it. 👍

CCMan1701A ,

There is a video from Lance Hedrick for the aeropress on making old coffee taste passable. I know you can’t control the grind size, but try it out if you already have the aeropress handy.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz9fH5ODVFU

Do you slow-feed? (youtu.be)

My grinder (Timemore Chestnut) isn’t of the super fancy kind that won’t ever produce any fines. So after some initial skepticism about the video’s topic, I was intrigued and gave it a try. And oh boy, does it make for a change in the result: Where I would normally set the grinder to 14 clicks, now I’m at 9 (where lesser...

CCMan1701A ,

Sounds like something I will try later today. 👍

CCMan1701A ,

I’m not sure I’m seeing or tasting a difference with this, but I’m only grinding like 11g to 15g. Maybe if I was doing like 30g or more it would help. I do enjoy dropping the beans a few at a time in the hopper.

CCMan1701A ,

I’m running a pixel 7 with out a protector, but a basic phone case. Run fine and it’s going to be supported by 3rd party roms for that extra security/os longevity.

CCMan1701A ,

Thanks, I popped you onto the grind settings chart for kicks. startrek.website/post/5939784
