Good lord. I worked in hospital IT for about 6 years and I absolutely hated WOWs. By far my least favorite thing to work on. I spent too many hours sitting on the floor swapping batteries out of those things.

Funny story it reminded me of though is that the Hospital I worked at was in a city starting with the letter S. So the acronym for the hospital was SH. So all of IT was referred to as IS (Information services) because we didn’t want to be the SHIT department.

And if I understand correctly, they are safer because there is less chance of parts touching inside. I don’t know the correct t terminology, but one of the big problems with current li-ion batteries is that if they get physically damaged, parts inside can touch, which basically starts a short/chain reaction that turns into a dangerous thermal runaway.

Also if I remember correctly the guy that invented li-ion invented some kind of solid state battery with glass right before he died. I’m assuming this technology stems from that.

I’m in my late 30’s in the NYC area. What my wife and I consider a “vacation” is going to Philly and staying in a hotel with a pool, and just putzing around a different city for the weekend.

The idea of taking a week+ off from work and flying somewhere is a foreign concept to me.

There have been a couple of times that we have gone to states far away to stay with family/friends, but it’s usually for like a long weekend.

Confusion like this got me my current job. They were looking for somebody with experience in “Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager”, and I look that up and I’m like “Oh, that’s SCCM, I do that”. Go through the interview process they keep asking me if I know Endpoint Configuration Manager and I’m like “yeah, for sure”. I get the job. Day one, the other systems engineer is like “here is the link to our Endpoint Manager Tenant”, and I’m like “oh… Shit I have never ever used this”

Well… Ends up Endpoint Configuration Manager and Endpoint Manager are two different things. Fortunately for me they are pretty similar in function and rely on knowledge of Windows and Powershell, which I know.

So my first 2 weeks of work was taking a shitload of courses in Endpoint Manager and watching a lot of videos and learning it inside and out.

2 years later and I’m an Endpoint Manager/Intune pro.

The worst part is that Windows can do that, but Microsoft insists on enshittifying it. Like Windows 11 isn’t that terrible if it wasn’t for all of the data collection and advertisements and other shit.

I miss the Windows 7 days where you could download a stripped down ISO that was just the OS. It launched your programs of choice and didn’t suck up your battery running unnecessary junk.

Yup. I can say for sure that SSDs were certainly a game changer, but now we have systems with like 10x the processing power that operate at the same speeds because the power has been spent on poorly optimized code and bloatware.

I used one of those short term financing things to buy a video card a couple years back. I think I paid 4% interest over 3 months which wasn’t bad at all considering my original plan was to put it on my credit card and pay it off over 3 months at like 20% interest. As long as you have the means to pay these things back, they aren’t bad at all. If you cannot pay them back, they can and will fuck you in every orafice with no lube.

Not quite correct. The 2020 image should have a car completely covered in a dust of green pollen because city planners only planted male trees for decades because female trees would produce fruit or seed and be a “nuisance” and/or create trash/animal bait etc…

But if they only planted female trees, they would never get fertilized, so they wouldn’t produce fruit anyway… Or pollen.

Worst case scenario, they would produce fruit, and cities would still smell bad and have rodent problems. But without the allergies.

I have really annoying hearing. I’m not sure how to fully describe it but my ears are super tuned into sounds. Very often I will be sitting with my wife or somebody else and I am like “do you hear that?” and they are like “wtf are you talking about?” and I have to be like “Shhh… That! Did you hear it?” and they are like “no wtf” and then I’m like “Wait no no… Wait… That! Did you hear it?” and they are like “Wait yeah… How tf did you hear that while we were talking? Were you paying attention?” and I’m like “No, I wasn’t because I kept hearing this noise”…

Like… Sometimes people’s voices just sound like noises and I can’t hear them unless I focus because my ears are listening to the noises around me. It can be really frustrating.

If another group of people showed up, and they had signs, and maybe bullhorns, and they started protesting the opposite of what the original people were protesting, they would be counter-protesting. Some heckling could even be involved.

When they show up wearing masks and wielding baseball bats, they are not counter-protestors. They are violent criminals. They did not show up to protest. They showed up to insight violence.

I just want my taxes to pay for healthcare, infrastructure, and education instead of wars and prisons. Oh man, that reminds me of the time that I was trying to record a demo for my friends band. They had a PA system, and apparently the 1/4 cable that went from the main speaker to the other carried power. I didn’t know this. I plugged it into the sound card on my PC. I’m super lucky that all it did was fry my sound card. It died so fast.
