After my weeks of research and reading reviews, I determined that the Encore ESP is the best value due to the finer adjustments for dialing in the grind size for espresso. However, I am in the states and not sure how much this costs where you are.

I make espresso maybe twice a year, and really wanted a single grinder that does fine grinding for the few times I need it.

The standard encore should be fine as well, but I don’t have experience with it. Don’t forget your spritzer for wetting the beans before grinding. Also, the encore is not zero retention so you should figure out a way to get those last few grinds out, I picked up the bellow attachment for the hopper, but I think there are other solutions.

Good luck and remember, you’ll be with whatever grinder you choose for a while (unless it breaks) so imagine your future coffee usage as well.

Adding the bellow to my machine keeps the grinder pretty clean on the inside. I only grind 11g and it all goes into the catch bin. Since I have to pickup and move my grinder after each use I have never seen grinds on the counter to clean up. I’m wondering more about how you are using the machine that it is causing such a mess. Also, it could be a faulty device, maybe the bin is not sitting correctly.

I weigh before and after grinding to make sure it all comes out.

The scale is important if you’re filling the hopper with all your beans. If you measure before filling the hopper then you can just let the machine go till it’s empty.

I like my Baratza ESP grinder, but only because I also have the bellow attachment. Whatever you end up with don’t forget the water spritzer to spray the beans before grinding. Also, you’ll need a kitchen scale if you don’t have one.

I think it would take me months to go through 3lbs of coffee as I only use one cup a day, which is only 11g of coffee.

I could have gone with a manual, since it’s only one cup a day, but I know myself and would quickly be annoyed with the grinding process. Also, there is maybe twice a year I need to brew coffee when people come over. Does the grinder take space? Yes. It’s like the size of a small blender. I put it in the dead corner of the counter top.

Let us know what you end up with. I may get a manual for travel fun.

Did 3 sprays on 11g, no lumps, no static in the hopper or catcher. I didn’t notice any difference in taste, but I used the aeropress. I did notice less dripping.

I'm getting tired of making generally bad OC

I’ve made quite a few posts to /c/risa that are actual OC. I’m either horrible at humor, the timing is bad, or it doesn’t work for whatever reason. Extremely low effort memes? Lots of upvotes. I love my speckled ax coffee beans, but if you didn’t go down the rabbit hole of a good grinder and coffee machine then expensive coffee is not worth it.

Ok, but everyone’s pallet is different and some can taste the difference between a fresh roast and a sale one. Personally, I can taste the difference in coffee when I have a bag that’s opened for over a few weeks, but not sure if it matters how recent the roasting was done.

I spend $$ on coffee more to support a roasting business that is small and makes a fresh batch to order. It’s also nice that the bean sourcing is better for the workers, so I hope.

I find the aeropress makes a really great cup considering how quick it is to brew.

After market. I’m measuring beans before adding and wanted as close to zero retention as possible. I think it’s working. I noticed the grinds come out a little lumped together. This is fine for aeropress and French press, but may need to get something for when it is espresso time to smooth out the grinds.
