Shower thoughts are wasting water.

My city is in the middle of the worst drought in recorded history. My showers are typically under 2 minutes and I have to shower with a bucket to catch otherwise wasted water to use to flush the toilet. I also shut the water down when I am wet enough so I can scrub myself without having unneeded water flowing then start it back...

BaldManGoomba ,

Maybe true but water is essentially free around here apartment doesn’t charge we have plenty of water. 30 min showers are minimum for me

Religion is an old form of it is what is, hope, direction, tradition, and community.

Can’t explain a thing or understand it God’s will or only God knows. Can’t do anything to help a person because they are in surgery pray or talk to God to wish for good outcomes.

Don’t feel loved or know what to do or wanted. God loves you, will show you the way, and wants you.

Most traditions and communities in the west were founded on a religion so you have hundreds of people to connect with at a church and maybe millions world wide that will help. Those raised on books of wisdom or what is right and wrong still tend to keep the values even after they move away from the religion but realize they can have values without divine beings

Lastly control. Just like businesses it is easier to control people under a religion so if you can get people indebted, traditionalized, and ostracized otherwise. You can control people easily. Lots of people don’t know what to do and why trust another human being but if a human being says wisely God said this it is easier to accept and gain a direction

Terminal inputs seems like coding. Back in the day you can mess with everything by coding. Having to spend time on forums and searching Google to fix problems that are Terminal inputs only is not something people want to do and what people are passionate about a thing or it is their hobby do.

Most people use what is in front of them, works, and what they are use too. I don’t have time to fix the wifi issue on my 10 year old linux laptop I just plugged it in. Other option is to reinstall windows every 6 months

Shareholders is the owners and since they are private we don’t know who they are. Right now it could be all Gaben or it could be a mix but Gaben is majority resulting in the culture is what he wants. Private companies don’t have to be maximizing profits focused but will die if they don’t make money. When people die it is whoever inherits or has majority share that pushes what happens.

I prefer my desktop. But I can game 6 hours of not more of my work day since my job is to make sure the Internet works and stare at an email. So 99% of my gaming is on my laptop

How many Israelis support idf or Israel? Hamas and Hezbollah flags are the equivalent to Israeli flags since they are terrorists organizations and governments. Usa supports only one of the terrorists though…I would argue Hamas are rebel fighters. Rebels use terrorism against regimes and occupying forces that kill locals in this case genocide and colonize Palestinians.

Idk hezbollahs deal not informed enough

Don't you all get tired of the constant negativity?

Despite not subscribing to political communities and having a large number of content filters based on keywords, my feed here is still for a large part all negative articles and ragebait. Elon Musk this and Israel that. Microsoft ruining windows, AI ruining internet, right wingers and capitalism ruining the world, police being...

In the real world your bubble is super small and it tends to be pleasant that is because you intake a lot less information and data about what is going on.

The internet and global community has TONS of information that someone focused on their life won’t exactly notice. There is ways even on the internet to surround yourself with just positivity and fun. But the fact of the matter making people feel negative gets more clicks and drives more money.

Take a break enjoy your life. Check in on the internet occasionally.

Use brave search so much better than google

BaldManGoomba ,

Prefer Firefox browser. But what is bad about their search it seems to be the most accurate to what I want. I always found ddg to give me stuff outside of exactly what I want. Google just started going out of right field. Then the summary ai thing recently added to brave search has been decent. I like the sources

Your comments are very concerning and aggressive to strangers on the internet. Then you overshare and very defensive.

Not sure if you are working on it but the internet may not be for you if you have to trauma dump on everyone.

You sound super passive aggressive about a kid not wanting an ancient console with terrible games. Then you expect them to be happy with a gift he didn’t want.

The stuff about your mom and being in the military makes it seem like you need to go to a therapist even more. Especially if your son’s dad messed with you and you are going through a harassment campaign online which would be weird if they found you on lemmy

Your problems shouldn’t be dumped on your son. This is coming from a son of a single mom who constantly trauma dumped on by his mother.

I thought I heard the Supreme Court struck this down already somewhere maybe it was a state Supreme Court

How do we package food products sustainably in coming decades?

I imagine all plastics will be out of the question. I’m wondering about what ways food packaging might become regulated to upcycling in the domestic or even commercial space. Assuming energy remains a $ scarce $ commodity I don’t imagine recycling glass will be super practical as a replacement. Do we move to more unpackaged...

BaldManGoomba ,

At the end of the day I think the answer is less availability and more local production is the way to go. Heavy sustainable packaging uses to much fuel. So it is better if we can grow and produce locally so we can theny recycle locally back to the packers and producers.

We can grow anything indoors now. We can bottle anything locally. The larger issue is electronics. Which can use sustainable materials.

I wish we could tax corporations for trash produced. Have the dump sort trash by company and offer them to recycle and charge them to recycle or trash the items.

BaldManGoomba ,

? If it is produced locally then food wouldn’t come across the world. Lots of meat and produce comes from California or China for northeast America. Less people hauling anything the better. Like we can grow in a building in the city way more efficient than long hauling.

BaldManGoomba ,

There is projects using the outside of buildings, tops of building, and all these empty office buildings. It is probably best to density the suburbs and transport into the city which 5-15 miles is extremely sustainable comparatively to thousands

BaldManGoomba ,

In no way was I saying everyone growing their own food. We can grow 15-30 miles out of the city. We can stop outsourcing our manufacturing and growing thousands of miles away from where people are.

Kansas to New York is over a thousands miles that is wildly inefficient. Don’t get me started if we could get farms closer to trains that go to the city.

BaldManGoomba ,

Why I said less availability. We can also grow for 4 seasons indoors like you said and I implied. Especially if we get cheap electricity too. Long future we can super shrink the operation footprint size and all the inefficiency of sustaining a living creature and just grow the meat.

There is a real conversation that needs to be had about how do we drive the democrats left. Biden is not getting my vote. But I live in Delaware where he has no chance of losing*. I will vote green party.

The democrats are courting Republicans and old republican platforms. Joe Biden sounds like George Bush. I didn’t hear or remember a single progressive thing in his state of the union but I heard issues driven by republican wants and unions sort of. I hear support but I don’t see what Biden is doing. We have Supreme Court cases in line to strip the national labor board and almost all cabinet departments from governing yet I haven’t heard a peep from the administration

Typo*

BaldManGoomba ,

Oops typo. Biden has no chance of losing in Delaware why I am voting 3rd party. If I lived in Pennsylvania I would totally vote for him

I love gen-Z's attitude towards corporate culture (lemmy.world)

i recently lost my job and it’s horrible being in the ‘unemployed’ class – you’re made to feel worthless, you have to take advice from people, perfectly well meaning of course, that are basically encouragement on digging your own grave - i love being in the position where i have to do some fake elizabethian courting...

BaldManGoomba ,

Yeah it is super disappointing to essentially beg or call up your friends to see if they can get you into a job where they work.

Applying to jobs on my own it takes like 200 tries to find one. Getting an in with someone I know has worked 100% of the time for me. Everyone else i know it is around 50-60%

BaldManGoomba ,

Data Center Engineer now. But I have an associate in electronic engineering from a community College.

2010-2013 Walmart. Started $7.65 an hour Ended $10.60 only reason I got a raise because of minimum raise increases Graduated college 2013-2016 left for a niche small electronics company (laser tag) $10 an hour. Got experience in my degree 2016-2018 left to work for Perdue chicken manufacturering plant 15.10 ended at 15.65 2018-2020 casino started at 15 ended at 15.65 2020-2022 data center for bank started at $24 ended at $26 2022-now data center different bank with a union started at $30 now at $32.30

Most the companies want to give me 3% or less every year one company kept putting off talks of raises. I kept taking more and more responsibility and no one would giving me a decent raise or pay me what I was worth.

I got $8.45 in raises from companies lots of the big chunk amounts came from minimum raise increase and work place adjustments. Every increase that they gave me for a yearly raise was 3% or less. Me leaving to another company got me $16.20 of pay increases.

111% increase from raises and 212% increase from job hopping in the last 14 years

BaldManGoomba ,

I am also not qualified to be an engineer despite having it in my title I am more like a data center technician or cable/server installer. Which is more inline with my salary

But give me a couple years with it in my title and tons of learning and a certification I can hit network engineer with 6 figures.

Normies just means people who aren’t in the in group and to me means we are the weird ones, exclusive group or have uncommon interests or knowledge.

It is important to be self aware that in the context of the fediverse and meme culture things you are use to are weird, different, and sometimes confusing. Perfect example has been the beans and the 3 day poop thing. Normal people don’t get and will think it is weird if they know nothing about the trend. Another example is I am a rock climber if I reference a jug or a sloper it means nothing to normies or people unaware of the lingo. So a jug joke isn’t something other people get
