i completely agree LLMs are great tools.

Long ago i visited a cement plant and there were no insulation on this huge metallic tube where they were cooking of calcium oxide (++) to produce clincher(klinker?) and i was thinking that there should be a lot of possible optimizations … like having a counter flow process to recuperate heat while the klinker(?) is cooling …

Usually putting together metal and water you get metal-oxide and hydrogen gas.
m + H2O → mO + H2

What they discover is a unusual zone where they have both oxygen (dissolved) and metal. So, i guess they have the reverse process :
mxOy + energy → (x)m + (y/2)O2

They should measure electrical field intensity in the water near the sea floor to evaluate electrical current going through the sea floor from the ocean.

They managed a substantial incremental improvement over previous models by first creating a better set of data as their starting point.

CrowdStrike Isn't the Real Problem

This is an unpopular opinion, and I get why – people crave a scapegoat. CrowdStrike undeniably pushed a faulty update demanding a low-level fix (booting into recovery). However, this incident lays bare the fragility of corporate IT, particularly for companies entrusted with vast amounts of sensitive personal information....

Looks quite satisfying to me, otherwise, we can still create new tests … :

The tests cover an astounding range of knowledge, such as eighth-grade math, world history, and pop culture. Many are multiple choice, others take free-form answers. Some purport to measure knowledge of advanced fields like law, medicine and science. Others are more abstract, asking AI systems to choose the next logical step in a sequence of events, or to review “moral scenarios” and decide what actions would be considered acceptable behavior in society today.

There are three proper distances worth keeping straight in one’s mind: Today’s (comoving) distance, the distance when the light set out, and the distance the light itself traveled.

[rant] . All authors that often say things like : “we can simply do this or that” … for me, is dismissive humble bragging. And, if they really wanted to encourage readers they would say : “in the following equation we used substitution” … something descriptive.

Every time we study a new subject it is always difficult at first and seeing someone bragging, saying it is simple for them, is never encouraging.

The one child policy as was imposed in China is the most drastic that is ethically tolerable.
And, lack of resources will soon enough convince people to make less children.
You don’t have to kill yourself today because you may die in 50 years - - this is blindingly obvious.

A_A ,
@A_A@lemmy.world avatar

You are right that it happened in the past and it still happens in many countries today : without education we are going toward disaster.
But i was trying to have a somewhat optimistic view and if you consider China’s one child policy it necessitated more education but this policy was sparked by a lack of resources.
We could find more examples where education combine with lack of resources would go the way i was saying.

@A_A@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, thanks. Let’s hope many countries evolve (or citizens mature) so they can apply necessary policies without degrading into dictatorships.

Yet, what they meant was that, at the time of fabrication, there is no sodium at the anode side and only while charging the battery, sodium is deposited so creating the anode.

... "quantum particle creation could play a role in the creation of matter in the universe after the end of an inflationary era" ...

The way i read it : Our theoretical framework, allowing matter creation (*) provides a possible origin for the universe (without the need of a Big Bang). Also this is quite timely in the actual context of new observations made by the James Webb space telescope that are in tention with classical models....
