I see teenagers drinking energy drinks and I’m always thinking marketing really works on teenagers. Because those are the only people drinking that shit and they are also trying to appear “cool”. So easy targets for marketing.

I use the teams web interface, it works fine on Linux. Can’t do screen share on Firefox however, only in Chrome, so I switch over when I have to.

I love it. Been an early adopter and uses it all day long, and it just works. Being able to rank sites and getting search results that never show up on Google is worth every dollar. It feels like you actually see the entire web with this search engine again.

Cars are great though (for the driver). There is no better feeling than sitting in your own car, away from the public. After decades of going on public transport, I love being in my car.

But sure, they suck for the environment and how cities have to be planned to allow for them. Totally agree on that. But they do give people freedom to go anywhere without being dependent on public transport and being subjected to the public.

Also driving a car is the most fun I’ve ever had. It’s better than anything. Sex is overrated compared to driving.

I find myself reacting to other people on public transport and it’s stuff like smelling really bad, making loud noises etc etc. I very much prefers cars…

I don’t think it’s moral for the state to take the kids away, unless the kid requests it. Even kids knows when they are being abused and if it’s bad enough, they should have the choice to leave. That being said, the state doesn’t care at all about them. It’s only marginally better than living with parents that don’t care about them.

Perhaps there should be some kind of certificate to become a parent, but that will most likely be abused and become too controlling.

It is wrong to slaughter animals now that we have technology that makes it unnecessary. The world could stop eating meat tomorrow if there was a virus inside meat that made people sick, so why can’t we decide to do it without the virus?

If there was a virus, the world would invest billions in alternative foods. Why can’t we do that now, today?

The majority disagreeing is not new. Democracy is not based on the wisest people making decisions. It’s mob rule, or majority rule. Today people just watch TV to make decisions, and TV is controlled by corporations. So we don’t really have the kind of democracy where people are well informed and feel like they can trust what someone in power is telling them.

It’s a good question… I think social media has made it worse, because people are now convinced that they are correct within their perception bubble. This is why I hate downvotes - because it removes the chance for people to see opinions they disagree with.

It’s crucial to see opinions we don’t agree with, or we believe that the “others” are just stupid, since clearly everyone on our side agrees.

When it comes to Google, I find it completely absurd how people are OK with a giant ad / spy company saving and profiting from their private searches. Their entire lives, every sensitive query, stored in their databases. Why is this accepted? Completely shocking actually.

They are basing their entire profit model on spying on users privacy and selling it to advertisers. Doesn’t that make you sick to your stomach?

You really bought into the entire PR material here. What makes you think the extra profits are going to go to staff? That never happens. Instead it grows the company profits so the shareholders gets richer.

Every company, specially in the US, are keeping their salaries low so the company can make higher profits.

Netflix profits last year was 3.5 billion dollars, and that was one of the bad years.

Google was always like this (ok maybe not in the beginning but for the last decade at the very least). For some reason now, more media sources started writing negative things about Google, so it seems they are worse now, but they are just as they always were.

Before you had personal blogs saying the same thing but people don’t take those as seriously.

Maybe Microsoft started paying media sources to finally make a PR push to limit Googles enormous power. Microsoft wants to to the same thing though.

A lot more weird people now. I already miss the initial experience of a small crowd of tech people. Now it’s mostly memes, because you can’t have a good discussion on Lemmy without someone getting their perception bubble popped. I’ve been called a racist, a hater, homophobe, etc.

It was more open 4 months ago before all the weirdos joined and decided to downvote everyone who says something that upsets them. And there is A LOT that upsets these people. Anything except memes.

Seems to me that an entire generation has decided they are keyboard warriors and they are fighting with their downvote buttons.

But downvotes doesn’t matter here. Still, I try to not post something they they will be upset by. But it’s still ridiculous.

Now that we're finally out of reddit, can we finally get different tag for NSFW and NSFL?

For the uninitiated, generally NSFW is for sexual contents and NSFL is for gory contents. People may want to see one but not see the other at any time for any reason. I have seen this feature requested over the years in Reddit but it never happens. Maybe now some instance can finally implement it?

This specific problem doesn’t exist in oh-my-zsh config though. It will find the directory even if spelling it like this.

It’s not default in zsh maybe, but it’s default in the oh-my-zsh config most people use.

I ran zsh for a while without that config and manually configured everything and it also works, but takes quite a bit of web searching to find all the knobs to turn.

I think aliens are real and most likely the largest governments made deals to get technology in exchange for letting aliens experiment on people (abductions).

All this goes under conspiracy theories of course.

There were many people in the 80s and 90s waking up while being abducted and since they couldn’t prove anything, they weren’t believed.

To me it’s completely uninteresting if scientists will find germs that are alive or not on other planets. We are way past that, in my opinion.
