Not sure I like this. What’s to prevent people from putting up lots of spam blog posts they publish to Lemmy?

Yeah you are right, maybe no need to worry.

I want to like it but… It sucks. :/

I would love if it didn’t. Lemmy for example does not suck, neither does mastadon. But peertube… It sucks.

It’s not the fault of the service. It sucks because the content is just not there. So it’s people’s fault for not using it, but of course they don’t, since the users are not there.

Any idea what Google are doing? Is this because I dont use Chrome (use Firefox)? I've no adblockers. (lemmy.world)

So this started coming up today. On every video. I can (so far) click the “x” and remove it to watch (still see 2 ads before the video, and one after 4 minutes - ruins music on YT), but did click the “Report issue” only for the dialogue box not to work....

I like udemy but yes, costs like 10 dollar per course to learn something and it goes a lot deeper than YouTube. But good courses!

It’s always been like that… Smart ruthless people at the top, sheeps at the bottom.

But maybe next life is better for the ones who don’t betray, manipulate and lie. One can hope.

Best browser, even though that goes without saying when the competitor is Chrome.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

There are many plugins for this…

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I actually don’t agree, and the reason is - non tech people. You and me can install plugins but ordinary people don’t do that. So the default experience must be good, offering improvements to the experience over Google Chrome.

Otherwise all privacy features could also be plugins. Imagine if that was true. Firefox would have no identity and you would have to install plugins and make it your own.

So some features should be built in. Maybe the ability to get pop-ups about false reviews will actually make users go “wow that is so useful”.

The entire economy is about companies making higher and higher profits, and if they don’t, economists worry it’s a stagnation. Lol. We really are quite fucked.

In the mean time, I’m using chat gpt at work every day now and I’m able to work much faster because of it.

To me it’s next generation search engine. For tech queries it’s correct a lot.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah I think it depends so much on context. For my tech queries it’s usually spot on.

Windows means it’s not your computer. Simple as that. Maybe that’s OK for most people, sure.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Hehe yeah it’s fun to run pihole and see a windows machine gets turned on… Looots of attempted Spyware communication.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Unless windows update needs to check for something every few seconds… It’s not that. This is behaving more like real time streaming of events, constantly sending to Microsoft, to a domain called events.

Probably sends what the user is doing all the time.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

It freaks me out that it’s sending what users are watching in real time, that’s exactly Spyware.

I think it’s horrible and has no place at all in a operating system.

They don’t sell this in my country, it’s so annoying! Everything I want in a laptop is right there.

Ive had two Lenovo laptops lately and they have ALL broken in different ways after a few years.

First one, mouse pad clicks stopped working.

Second one, some keys stopped working.

I want a laptop where I can replace things like this when they break.

I got one t14 and one carbon x9. I don’t buy those ideapads… :) OK will have a look!

I’m cancelling subscriptions like crazy, I don’t have any streaming TV subs left at all. I replaced them with something that gives actual value:

  • Kagi search engine. This wonderful thing has made me discover how much good sites there are out there!
  • Fastmail. Really fast and lots of actually useful features.
  • Jetbrains editors. I actually like the new user interface. :)

It is like this in the beginning but you come out the other end actually knowing how to change your editor to be what you want.

To me, neovim made it really fun to edit code again, and I spent months with it, learning lua from scratch, even wrote plugins for it that got popular.

The shortcuts makes it really easy to jump around in code fast and all the different plugins feels like getting constant upgrades. :)

I think once workers can be replaced, there will be some virus that wipes out most of humanity. No point keeping billions of people around if they aren’t needed.

I don’t know, I just think its obvious that the rich guys views ordinary people as useless eaters.

You want to be treated like a man (if you are a girl)?

I don’t understand why people are surprised there are gender differences. It’s supposed to be. And we are supposed to react to eachother, be different to eachother. It’s natural biologically and physically and this is completely obvious.

You think women don’t explain to men how something works a million times a day? I hear it so often I can’t even count. It’s perfectly natural.

1984 , (edited )
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I think you may need some more experience with women. :)

Really, all this gender bickering is so infantile. We are mostly the same, but have different strengths and weaknesses. Guys are better at some things, worse at others, in general.

Women are not some flawless creature ok? You will see with time if you haven’t. :) Only in teenage Hollywood movies are they there as some form of meaning of life, and I guess it feels like that at that age.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah ok, I just meant to say that I know many woman who explain things to their husband’s as if they are idiots, and they make no attempt at hiding that they think they are idiots. :)

Haven’t you had that in your life? Women will not hold back what they think. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I felt it was worth it from day one. Had so much fun over the years with it too.

It’s fine, they already turned into shit.

Microsoft will make it worse but it’s easy to avoid this stuff, unlike Github.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

To be honest, I’m adopting this view more and more now that the world turns into a dystopian nightmare.

I don’t think kids being born now has a high chance of being happy with big tech running the world.

It’s very normal where I live… It’s so normal that people think they are in their living room, because they have loud private conversations, have their phone sound on top volume, and generally smell bad.

Maybe that’s not what you meant though.
