Ads gets served, purpose filled. :p

Yeah it’s ridiculous and scary how fast time goes by, and the older we get, the faster it feels like.

I agree, it’s playable and fine with the right settings, at least on my machine. I have a old cpu but powerful graphics card, Radeon 6900 XT.

No there are actually severe bugs in the financial model of the city also, stuff like that. But it will be fixed eventually. It’s not a bad game. It does what it’s supposed to and it’s more user friendly than the previous version.

The largest difference is not that it’s federated (but that’s a huge plus for avoiding bad moderators or owners) - it’s that big tech is not running it. They are running almost every other social media network and abusing, exploiting and analyzing users to profit from users activity. Lemmy is free from all of that, which means it’s the sane persons choice of social media.

Many people have mentioned that Lemmy doesn’t feel as addictive as reddit, which is because it doesn’t have an algorithm, no ridiculous points or flairs, and no ads and corporations. Discussions cannot be censored here as well, as long as they don’t break the law. So Lemmy means people actually get back to doing things that benefit them instead of doom scrolling.

This is also the closest we come to a social media where people will tell you what they think, since it’s semi-anonynous and downvotes doesn’t matter. I appreciate that myself.

It’s a fantastic show still, very funny. :)

Wait until you realize 99% of people are transphobes and just don’t tell you because it’s not allowed.

That happens when you ban opinions. :)

What are your thoughts on a user-driven, officially unofficial radio station for Lemmy?

For the past few weeks I’ve been working on creating my own public radio station (it’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid). Well now it’s up and running but I don’t know what to do with it. So I thought I’d see what Lemmy thinks about the concept, before I go all in and start investing in licensing fees, better...

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I love the initiative. This sort of thing feels REAL and I will absolutely submit some songs from my Playlist :)

I really like radiostations as well, not just for music, but the way people can talk over radio in a anonymous way (at least before caller id) . I don’t know if you watched the show Midnight Caller but it was one of my favorite ones growing up.

The entire internet works best in Firefox with the exception of some shitty big tech sites I guess.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

How much is the fees per song?

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Why wouldn’t you have exact numbers? I’m interested in knowing how much the fee is per song, since I don’t know. Give me a ballpark number?

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Haha so true, and I say this as a Linux user for like 20 years. There are some Linux users who value functionality over form so much that they prefer cluttered user interfaces with tiny borders to maximize screen space.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I remember in 1995-ish or something when I used the internet for the first time using the Netscape browser… And I was asking a friend if he had tried all the web sites yet. Just got a weird look back… :) I didn’t know what the internet was back then at first.

I think if someone falls in love with an Ai, it’s because they have a good looking avatar and people are attracted to it’s appearance.

I doubt any human can fall in love with a machine on a text based interface.

Even humans that aren’t physically attractive can’t get dates and it doesn’t matter how nice they chat.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

They fall in love over text when chatting with another person, of course. But that’s because they imagine what kind of person that is, and if they could have a relationship together in real life.

With a chatbot, that’s all there is. No life, no physical body, no life together. You are still alone and you can’t share your life experiences with a computer program and feel any sense of connection.

Gnome looks better but kde is more functional… I can even run Jetbrains apps in kde without them being blurred in 4k 144hz, but gnome can’t.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

You get downvoted by people who have no experience of this. Young guys growing up on social media. But you are right. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Seems you are using that brain again. Didn’t school teach you not to do that?

Cop and firefighter was a good example.

You are right, they aren’t open all the time except in screenshots. :)

FreeTube works fantastic on desktop. No ads and instant playback and high quality. Amazing app.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

This has been posted many times already, that’s why its not being so upvoted now. But yeah, it will destroy the internet and put the control over what devices are allowed in the hands of current big tech mafia.

They can make sure you are not using Linux, that you have specific plugins disabled or enabled, etc. It removes the user choice over computer and browser choice we have today when visiting the websites with WEI enabled.

All Google needs to do is to give WEI sites a high search engine ranking, saying they are more secure, and all big web sites will enable it.

After the disaster with colorways, mozilla has picked up the pace and started being sane again.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Sorry for commenting on my own post, won’t happen again.

:)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

They should make a search engine. If Kagi can do it, why can’t Mozilla? Because it would upset Google…

There is no real competition. Google has mozilla in a strangehold and they are fine for mozilla to do privacy stuff, but not fine with them competing for real.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yes I know, but users may pay mozilla for added privacy, just like they are paying Kagi now for privacy and extra features on top of Google.

But you are right, they are still depending on the monster that is Google.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Just release it and let it join the graveyard of shitty games this year.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

They don’t even mention the invasive tracking in windows. Guess they dont want to upset Microsoft. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I don’t think content should be banned on Lemmy just because some people are tired of it. But each instance can have its own rules of course.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yes I will use an energy saving programming language, that will make everything better. /s

1984 OP ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

It’s not even comparable in quality… When I was using it, I had to resort to Google search every day to get good results.

1984 OP ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

They can probably fix that, they are very open to suggestions, unlike Google. Mail them about it :)

1984 OP ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Just a happy customer. Do you ever feel excited about a product? That’s how I feel about Kagi.

It’s a fantastic product, and the best search engine in a decade probably.

1984 OP ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

What? I tried searchx and it’s not even close. We can compare query responses if you like… :)

1984 OP ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I thought it would be funny. It’s a play on “do you want to talk about Jesus?”. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Guess I should try this in a wm or something. :)
