For the yellow one, I only see a yellow circle with no number.

Give me those headpats.

Yeah this is the next best option, but a secondary pihole is the best, so you still get the dns blocking while the first one is down.

You listed cloudflare now (1.1.1.1) but I prefer www.quad9.net for the privacy and security.

I wouldn’t buy thinkpads anymore… Recent models are not good quality. Mouse pad broke on my first one, and keyboard on the second one. This was ThinkPad Carbon 8 and T14 I believe.

They used to be great but no longer, even though notebookcheck keeps giving them top marks in reviews.

Samsung is full of Spyware and ads. Pixel, not sure.

But I would seriously consider Motorola since the Edge 30 is fantastic. Great battery time, no Spyware, everything just works.

I’m starting to think that samsung pays reviewers since they are always at the top, but are shitty phones.

Why do we care what Taylor Swift says…

1984 ,

No, people. What makes her worth listening to?

She makes music. :)

I don’t get the celebrity thing I guess.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yep that’s how it works. The news and media talks a lot about some artist, so both the artist and the media companies make bank.

But im still surprised she just came out of nowhere like this.

Land of the fee.

In Sweden there is no cost for this whatsoever. Most things are free or have tiny bills. I’m not saying it to make you feel worse, just pointing out that America is bordering on not being a civilized country anymore.

As a bonus, we don’t have any Musks here.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I mean, who are we talking about? I admit I don’t follow news much but which Swedish guy is rich like Musk? I know we have wealthy bank families and so on of course, or Axfood etc.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah I know. It’s just such a contrast between how the country markets itself VS reality. We have almost exclusively American and British TV here and it really is quite a shock when you see what the country actually is.

But if there is a world war, we will appriciate support from the US of course. One thing they are awesome at is armies and weapons.

I haven’t followed it but it’s hilarious to read about:

unions across Sweden banding together against the carmaker, blocking imports at ports and refusing to repair damaged Tesla chargers, among other actions.

Postal workers have stopped delivering mail to the company, including license plates. A local court of appeal also overturned Tesla’s attempts to have license plates directly delivered from the Swedish Transport Agency.

unions in Norway, Denmark, and Finland have now said they’re also ready to stop unloading cars from ships, according to the Financial Times.

No but the US has always been bad at guerilla warfare. Same in Vietnam. Whatever nomads the US are fighting at the time are using intelligence rather than raw military power, and it’s the only way to fight a more powerful force.

AMD GPUs are cursed for me

Each time I try AMD graphics, something is fucked for me. Back with fglrx, fglrx just sucked, so I used Nvidia. Then I had an AMD right around when they finally had opensource drivers, but it was still buggy as hell. So I went with Nvidia again (first a GTX 790, then a GTX 1060). In the meantime I had a new work notebook where I...

It also matters what Linux distro you have. Some of them are horrible. I’m super happy with amd graphics on arch, and have no issues whatsoever, with probably 30 games in steam library that all works very well.

So I think it may be your system and what drivers you installed, or some other config.

I have a 6900 XT card, latest kernel, latest drivers. But I’ve had this graphics card since kernel 5.8 I think, with no issues.

Proxmox with latest Debian i guess, but all virtual machines are on Ubuntu 23.10. It’s just the easiest to install things on, and have a semi-recent kernel, even though I would never use it on the desktop.

I actually wanted to run arch in the vms but I couldn’t find any image with the latest arch. The latest I found was with kernel 6.3.

Slippery slope guys. Soon we have tags like “windy” or “landscape” or “table”. :)

The only way to get away from this is to use some kind of FOSS operating system

Been doing this for like 10 years now. It was easy to see the future of windows when windows 8 and 10 started sending user data to their cloud. Next step is always serving ads.

And people pay for Windows too. :)

It’s not too late to switch to Linux but you are very late if you haven’t done it.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

The thing is, people have been saying “you can turn off feature x” since at least 10 years now, and while that is true for a while, the operating system keeps getting shittier. There is no reason to keep using something like that unless you have to. :)

I think it’s great. I think it’s impossible to use dolphin with single click since it goes into folders or starts files when clicking on them once.

Anyone knows the historic reason for single click? Plasma was inspired by some older system?

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah I agree, that would be the best, but also slightly annoying. No more common shell history or web history and stuff like that.

I haven’t had any major breakage using both Gnome and Plasma myself. It works fine. But it’s annoying to see Gnome apps in the Plasma menus (when typing program names).

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah I know. I use plasma icon themes, they seem to work much better in both Gnome and Plasma than using Gnome themes.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah but it’s a lot more things. Every thing I do in one account would have to replicated in another, pretty much. Becomes hard.

Even though using github and online storage makes things a lot easier.
