For all your boycotting needs. I’m sure there’s some mods caught in lemmy.ml’s top 10 that are perfectly upstanding and reasonable people, my condolences for the cross-fire....
I feel like we need to talk about Lemmy’s massive tankie censorship problem. A lot of popular lemmy communities are hosted on lemmy.ml. It’s been well known for a while that the admins/mods of that instance have, let’s say, rather extremist and onesided political views. In short, they’re what’s colloquially referred to...
Ironically, I’ve been trying to move a few communities away from LW (to avoid hyper-centralization), and it worked, for instance with !map_enthusiasts (compared to the previous !mapporn ), same with !casualconversation which replaced !casualconversation
Maybe we should bring attention to people about the lemmy.ml kind of moderation (and I guess this post does this quite well) so that they will avoid to post there in the future
I had an extraordinary experience today, but it didn’t relate to a hobby or career or political topic. I tried to find an appropriate community but I guess I don’t have the right terms. Where can one turn to share triumphs, defeats, and sacred moments?
What are some of your favorite communities that feature topics like literature, science, ecology, aerospace, technology, politics, history, arts, culture, theory, and debate?...
Small promotion for !casualconversation where we have a weekly thread asking people how they are doing.
Also, I know it’s a Lemmy.world community, and they don’t have the best reputation among people on lemmy.ml, so if people would prefer to contribute if they community was hosted elsewhere, feel free to let me know, I’ll see if we can move it to a less divisive instance
Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn’t work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !casualconversation
I semi-often hear people complain about Lemmy’s moderation tools. It’s happened enough that I think it’s a sign that moderation tools need improvement. Some ideas I have so far:...
I am a proud mod of !casualconversation and a while back me and the other mods were consulted by a site admin who asked why the reports we were getting weren’t being answered. We checked time and time again and did not see what she was talking about and brought this up a few times. Finally she looked into it and learned the realization from the people above her that reports made by users of one instance have a susceptibility of being invisible to mods of burrows (the Lemmy equivalent term for subreddit) who signed up under another instance. So we were all encouraged to make alternate accounts to help receive reports. This is why I made the secondary account @KaneLivesInDeath which was indirectly named after the Command and Conquer villain Kane (cuz why not).
No pressure or judgment upon admins, but if it’s at all possible to bridge the instance reporting gaps, that would be amazing. Please and thank you.
It seems like any platform that features link aggregation is soon overrun by bots and self-promoters trying to drive traffic, and pages and pages of link posts versus pages and pages of people talking....
Looking to talk to people on Lemmy and places similar to r/penpal or r/dirtypenpal. If anyone knows a place on lemmy like that or if you’re interested in creating a place let me know.
it’s unfortunate that I can’t keep the few good bots visible but there’s just too much bot spam now.
As a moderator needing a daily thread created by a bot (!casualconversation ) it is indeed annoying that a lot of people do not see it due to this.
I got the bot banned a few weeks ago because I hadn’t flagged it as such. I could maybe reach out to the LW admins again, but got other stuff to deal with.
