Last time I tried it let me create a local account, then about a week later I got called because Windows threw a full-screen blocker on boot saying a Microsoft account was required to continue with “I’ll do it later” being greyed out. Oddly enough, ALT+F4 worked to close it and continue.
Oddly enough I usually see/write it fen/bog marsh.
I was going to ask about the order of adjectives, actually, since I find esoteric grammar rules oddly interesting and have been on a bit of a “adjectives hierarchy” kick lately.
@actuallyautistic#actuallyautistic Someone mentioned "odd" sleep schedules the other day; I think I finally experienced a good dose of the "odd."
Went to bed Sunday night around 1:30 AM, slept until 2:00 PM somehow. Tried to go to bed Monday night at 1:30 AM but was wide awake. Decided to stay up until sunrise because why not, there was no point in trying to get sleep. Still wide awake, I thought taking a shower at 5:30 AM would be productive.
What country are you in and how well-regulated are psychiatrists there?
Have they told you what the medicines are? With psych meds sometimes they have to build up in your system and it can take a few weeks. But one-off injections sound a bit odd.
You should be able to look up the treatments on drugs.com or wikipedia.
I hate how oddly specific “Moved from Jekyll to Hugo people” is, mostly because that’s exactly what I did as well. I don’t use it to write any blog posts though. It’s more a “Here’s a list of things I’ve created”-generator.

I'm not really sure what you're asking or where the dichotomy is. Are you referring to a specific type of chicken sandwich in your region which is typically eaten with utensils? Because I have never in my life seen or heard of someone eating a chicken sandwich with utensils. I'm sure there are people who don't like getting their fingers messy who do so, but they are the odd ones out.
Spotify is officially raising its Premium subscription rates in the US come July, following reports of the move in April. The platform is increasing its Individual plan from $11 to $12 monthly and its Duo plan from $15 to $17 monthly — the same jump as last year’s $1 and $2 price hikes, respectively. However, its Family plan...
The app won’t let you without signing in, I don’t think, but i think the website does. Try this link or you can go to deezer.com and if you go to the hamburger menu at the bottom it has an “explore channels” option.
Edit: It’s odd they don’t let people browse I’m a more friendly way. And just so you know, once you sign up, you can search, make playlists, download for offline etc, the mostly same as spotify. When u first sign up, it also give you the option to migrate all your spotify plsylists over. Out of my thousands of songs saved, it did have 2 or 3 that didn’t transfer over due to just not having it.
Waking from hibernation is sooo much slower than waking from sleep. Apple silicon macs are very efficient in their S0 standby so they’ll go days before entering hibernation. Kinda odd that they bring that up now that Apple has fully transitioned to ARM machines where this isn’t really an issue. That said S0 standby on this 2019 Macbook I have for work is dogshit.
I doubt you’ll get any disagreement on your take for the controller. It was definitely an odd and experimental one, though I do remember thinking it was really cool looking when it came out. I was also 6 and not the best judge of functionality.
That having been said, the cartridge decision was in line with Nintendo’s recent plays at the time that had paid out for them in a big way, and that they continue to follow today. They had made a gamble on the Game Boy a few years prior that absolutely blew up in their favor. When the Game Boy came out, the Game Gear was it’s competitor and Game Gear had a color screen and a lot more screen real estate. Nintendo made the choice to focus on power efficiency (up to almost a half a day of playtime on four double-A batteries versus the Game Gear with about three and a half hours of play time on six double-A’s) and production cost reduction. Some of those design philosophies carried forward to the N64.
Additionally, something a lot of people seem to be unaware of these days is how absolutely stark the difference in loading times was between something like the PS1 discs and the N64 cartridge. I grew up on the SNES and N64 and when I first played a PS1 game the load times made me not want to touch a Sony console for quite a while.
Anyways, that’s my two cents. No disagreements here that cartridges held the N64 back in some ways but the tradeoffs made it an amazing system and miles above the competition for me, personally. Good gameplay and quality of life will always beat more power in my book.
Cartridges actually have much faster load times than discs. Notice how the Switch has reverted back to cartridges? They’re faster.
As for the controller… It is pretty odd. Though, at the time, we didn’t have the same standard for controller design we have now. So it makes sense that Nintendo would try something bold. Then after they had committed to the design, the world decided the PS1 controller made much more sense, and that became the benchmark for future controller designs.
The AI hype comes from a new technology that CEOs don’t understand. That’s it. That’s all you need for hype it happens all the time. Unfortunately, instead of an art scam we’re now dealing with a revolutionary technology that once it matures will be one of the most important humanity has ever created, right up there with fire and writing. The reason it’s unfortunate is because we have a bunch of idiots charging ahead when we should be approaching with extreme caution. While generative neural networks aren’t likely to cause anything quite as severe as total societal collapse, I give them even odds of playing a role in the creation of a technology that has the greatest potential for destruction that any humanity could theoretically produce: Artificial General Intelligence.
I think if you’re trying to estimate the odds of an impending civil war, you’ll do a much better job if you take into account how widespread calls for it are, rather than simply noting that there are always a few calls for civil war.
Probably the last republican candidate that was a decent person. But him running led to “moderate Dems” using it as an excuse to move just as far right as he was.
Which just made republicans move further right
It harderly took any time till Dems were acting like McCain.
And they already show zero interest in ever going back to what the Dem party was just a few decades ago.
A global shortage of oranges that sent prices soaring has prompted some orange juice manufacturers to consider turning to alternative fruits to make the breakfast staple....
Fair point, and oddly enough right up my alley, too. On one hand, I’ve hated “cranberry juice” for so long that I guess I assumed it was sugary bullshit all over the world. Sorry for that. 🙇🏽♂️ On the other, “don’t try this at home” is my middle name.
Half the reason why I bought an RTX GPU was for the video enhancement features like SDR to HDR conversion and AI upscaling
Neither of those things have anything to do with raytracing. Well the tensor cores used for denoising in RT workloads are suitable for all kinds of AI workloads and thus also upscaling, but really it hasn’t got to do anything with raytracing. Or AI in particular any GPU can do convolutions.
I don’t own an nvidia card and honestly few linux users do because their driver support sucks, I’d say if nvidia advertised those features and their linux drivers don’t have them your complaints should be directed at nvidia. They won’t care.
Meanwhile, mpv does inverse tone mapping natively. They don’t integrate AI upscaling but there’s various projects providing glsl shaders which mpv can use, here’s the configs for Anime4K. There’s also frame interpolation around somewhere but I haven’t used it in ages because variable refresh rate is the best solution to odd frame rates.
Development of X halted, the few patches that are still landing concern xwayland, don’t expect anything to happen there. KDE 6.0 ships with experimental HDR support on wayland, you might not need to wait five years go give a live USB stick a spin. Arch wiki has some pointers (not that I’d be recommending arch but I am recommending their wiki).
Ah, but I disagree! The “gruesome” part is what changes it; it’s an important detail in Pascal’s Wager. If it were a sudden, painless death? I’d absolutely press it. If it meant death by being buried alive in a coffin? I wouldn’t press it if the odds were 1,000:1, or 10,000:1. The “badness” vs “goodness” factor of each certainly factors into the decision process. The benefit would have to be enormous to outweigh the consequence of a long, terrifying, and/or painful death. Far more than money, for me.
But it if were even 50:1 odds, and the penalty is a sudden and painless death, vs the world being contacted and accepted into Iain Bank’s The Culture? Heck yeah, gimme the button. I might take even worse odds.
And yet, I’m human, and humans are terrible at making decisions based on statistical odds; I’m maybe a little better than average for an American, but only because I have a formal process for making decisions like this. But I don’t apply it intuitively to every risk, so I’m as bad as anyone else, in general.
I don’t have any mental illnesses of which I’m aware, but it depends on how bad the illness was if I did. Is it debilitating? Am I regularly having suicide ideation? Am I miserable all the time because of my depression? Is it running my marriage, my friendships? Yeah, I’d take it. 20% is pretty high odds, but if I’m so I’ll I’m considering suicide already, 70% of being cured sounds good. Wouldn’t you?
Is my illness such that I have sad days a couple of times a month? But 20% chance of getting a permanent psychosis? Probably not worth the risk.
If the perceived goodness value * % chance good outcome is greater than the perceived badness value * % chance of a bad outcome, then “Yes.” That’s the basis of Pascal’s Wager, and it’s a good a decision process as any I know.
Oh, heck… if I’m honest, I’d probably take MDMA recreationally at least once just to see what it’s like, if it were legal and available.

@dordle There weren’t any compelling use cases shown in the trailer; it seemed like it was simply some parent having an odd reminiscence over his deceased kids.
