Completely exhausted by the degenerate state of Muskworld so giving Mastodon a try. I'm currently a copywriter based in Cornwall. In September, I'm starting a PhD project at Falmouth University exploring the relationship between autism and crime fiction alongside a creative element developing a Cornish crime novel featuring an autistic detective
Would be good to connect with folks with shared interests:
Also, there are groups. The biggest one is @bookstodon but simply typing @ bookstodon will not get you there. You need the full address which is @ [email protected]. (I put a space after @ just to show you the non-shortened address, which will become a shortcut link after you hit send.)
This page can help you find groups, and there is one about autism which might interest you: https://a.gup.pe/
Today I have been playing the "COVID or autism" game.
Testing negative for COVID so it's that I'm uber run down from such an awful week last week with too little sleep, too much heat and too much routine getting ruined.
It's so frustrating. I know it's because the heat & routine ruining & then the socialness of the repair cafe all last week has knocked me for six, but it's so hard because I worked so hard to take care of myself through all that but nothing can prevent the brain mess and resulting physical issues of having my routine destroyed.
@alexisbushnell@actuallyautistic
The inevitability of the autism tax. No matter how careful we are, all things carry a cost that always comes due. I find it's best just to accept this, if not like it. :bear_hugs:
Giving Mastodon another shot to give me another option than Threads/Meta and Bluesky. Hello world. Looking to follow writers, artists, readers, gamers, queer folx, neurodivergents, geeks and crafters.

Why the employer-employee relationship is based on theft and all companies should be worker-controlled - “Neo-Abolitionism: Towards Abolishing the Institution of Renting Persons”
I'll write one. The talk argues that employment contract is invalid due to inalienable rights. Inalienable means can't be given up even with consent. Workers' inalienable rights are rooted in their joint de facto responsibility in the firm for using up inputs to produce outputs. By the norm that legal and de facto responsibility should match, workers should get the corresponding legal responsibility, but in employment, workers as employees get 0% while employer gets 100% of results of production
It is shocking to me how many people think looking at gore and corpses is a necessity for fighting for Palestine. You do not have to do that. You can not watch those videos, but you cannot use that as an excuse to give up and look away. It is your responsibility to raise hell about atrocities you're paying for. You ought to be loudly and actively supporting those fighting genocide if you cannot get involved directly. Be part of a solution instead of being a bystander.
You can and should be feeling rage. You can and should be channeling that rage into your actions. Think beyond just the individual pleasures. We can build a world outside of our suffering, and we owe it to our communities and international comrades to do so. Local elections, blockades, boycotts, disobedience and direct action, labor unions, confederations, clinics, libraries, affinity groups—we have power to build a better world.

hey everyone, i'm having a little problem and if any of you knows at least some way to help me i'd appreciate it
my keyboard (mechanical) is kinda broken - whenever i type and use the s key, it spams itself between 2-5 times.
i need my s key evidently, but i can't take my keyboard to repairs until mid august, hence why i'm asking if any of you know some software that can make it so i can only press the key once in a set amount of time (milliseconds-type, as the s spamming happens insanely quick)
using the keyboard settings in control panel for repeat delay does not work as the key acts as if it were pressed multiple times rather than being held down. setting the repeat delay and repeat rate sliders to the slowest settings does not help because of that.
(i use windows by the way)
i know how band-aid of a solution this is but i need to use my s key pretty much and waiting isnt much of an option. i'd appreciate the help, thank you so much in advance everyone!!
@sushimcpe You can use the registry editor to change the repeat delay to a value that is too large to realistically reach.
I found this registry path online HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelAccessibilityKeyboard Response.
On linux or bsd with kde plasma, you can disable repeating keys in the system settings.
it sounds like something is shorting the key temporarily. cleaning it might fix it.
you'd have to take it apart to properly clean it though
@SuperDicq I used to have a sata DVD drive laying on top of my pc, with cables coming though one of the fan holes. the case i was using didn't have room for both a GPU and a disc drive
#writerscoffeeclub 3/8: Agree with George Orwell: never use foreign, scientific or jargon words and phrases in your work?
I find it hard to believe he would have said anything that daft. I’m guessing he actually said something like, ‘don’t use obscure words without explanation’.
19th century books often use quotes in Latin or Greek, and they’re useless to most modern readers without translation.
But imagine science fiction without a scientific vocabulary… #TheShatteredMoon#books#writing
@JonSparks He's smarter than that, as you say: "Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent"
It's a piece very much of its moment, but still very much worth a look. And those six rules – complete with get-out clause – still very much worth thinking about.
