Do I know anyone who uses a screen reader who would be interested in sharing their perspective on AI generated captions?

NoahCarver ,
@NoahCarver@c.im avatar

@sam @levampyre @disability @ACBNational @cameron Well, my first question would be are you talking about captions for death or heart of hearing people or are you talking about visual descriptions for blind people? Sorry if this seems like a dense question, but unfortunately your verbiage is slightly ambiguous.

sam OP ,
@sam@social.coop avatar

@NoahCarver @levampyre @disability @ACBNational @cameron oh yah, sorry, I said "captions" I meant "alt-text on images", specifically for people who are blind. Although I was paraphrasing and neither was the original prompt, actually, it just became the specific example I started thinking about and that I had someone I could specifically ask about it (but also decided to ask online to get a wider set of perspectives).

"As radical as they might seem, calls for limits on wealth are as old as civilization itself. The Hebrew Bible and Torah recognized years during which debts should be cancelled, slaves set free and property redistributed from rich to poor. In classical Greece, Aristotle praised cities that kept wealth inequality in check to enhance political stability. And in 1942, then-US president Franklin D. Roosevelt argued that annual incomes should be capped at the current equivalent of US$480,000.

"In Limitarianism, Dutch and Belgian economist and philosopher Ingrid Robeyns argues that it’s time for twenty-first-century governments to do the same. She explores what setting limits on wealth ownership might mean, and why our societies should want to do so. It is a fresh take on a much-needed discussion at a time when, for example, the richest 1% of the US population owns about as much wealth as the bottom 90%."

"Robeyns discusses policies that would constitute the essence of a limitarian policy platform, acknowledging that there is no one‑size-fits-all solution. Her proposals build on the work of Anthony Atkinson’s book Inequality (2015), Thomas Piketty’s A Brief History of Equality (2021) and Isabelle Ferreras and colleagues’ Democratize Work (2022). These include giving workers more rights over firms’ strategic decision-making and restoring governments’ fiscal agency by changing tax rules to limit the possibilities for tax evasion."

Me, giving away audiobooks on Mastodon for free: I wish more people would take me up on this.

Me, seeing a lovely person on Mastodon giving away something they've made for free: How beautiful! How wonderful! ...but surely someone else will need that more than I do.

Speaking of giving away for free...

Listeners tell me that I have a soothing voice that's good for falling asleep to (which I consider to be a huge compliment) and that my voice makes them feel less lonely and alone.

If you're in a rough patch and you would like one of my fiction audiobooks, please pick a title and let me know if you'd like a free copy code for US or UK Audible. No questions asked, just good wishes.

Hello! We are a small independent bookshop in Stow, in the Scottish Borders. We are no longer using Twitter, for obvious reasons, but could use some new followers on Mastodon and other social media channels - where our presence is smaller than on Twitter. Please help / share this is you can! Thank you.

So, before beginning my 4 months of parental leave in June, I wrote an article for @heiseonline describing, why one on should activate federation with the . I did this in anticipation, that this option would become availabla in the EU while I'm gone.

After almost two months, it's still not here. Seems like preparing the article wasn't necessary. Will it come before christmas maybe? 🙄

@fediverse

Zangoose ,

Honestly at this point threads federation probably won’t even be able to get the first 2 E’s because it’s opt-in on the Threads side. Most Threads users don’t know what ActivityPub is and aren’t going to go digging through settings to turn it on. Aside from the POTUS Threads account I legitimately haven’t found a threads account I’d remotely care about that bothered to turn it on, even among some of the more tech-oriented ones

I really hope the EU rips each of these corpos a new one. This idea of „we get more functionality than others do so users come to us“ is disgusting with any company but corpos should be legally kept from doing it.

Can I change the address in the udyam registration certificate?

Changing the address in your Udyam Registration Certificate involves a series of steps that must be followed diligently to ensure that the new address is correctly updated in the government records.

The Udyam Registration Certificate is an essential document for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India, providing various benefits and recognition. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you understand the process and make the necessary changes.
Understanding Udyam Registration
Udyam Registration, introduced by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in India, replaced the earlier process of Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) and aims to simplify the registration process for MSMEs.
This registration is crucial for businesses to avail themselves of various benefits provided by the government, including easier access to loans, subsidies, and protection against delayed payments.

Completely exhausted by the degenerate state of Muskworld so giving Mastodon a try. I'm currently a copywriter based in Cornwall. In September, I'm starting a PhD project at Falmouth University exploring the relationship between autism and crime fiction alongside a creative element developing a Cornish crime novel featuring an autistic detective

Would be good to connect with folks with shared interests:

@martyn_clayton welcome! There are some authors here, and a ton of folks in the and . I hashtagged them to help you find your people. Many of the writers are on the https://wandering.shop/about instance or the https://writing.exchange/about instance.

Also, there are groups. The biggest one is @bookstodon but simply typing @ bookstodon will not get you there. You need the full address which is @ [email protected]. (I put a space after @ just to show you the non-shortened address, which will become a shortcut link after you hit send.)

This page can help you find groups, and there is one about autism which might interest you: https://a.gup.pe/

Feditips is also extremely helpful:
