Remember that once non-WGA writers cross the picket line, they won't be able to join the union later, should they want or need to. It's worth reminding them of this.
#WGA seem to have reached a tentative agreement for a new collective contract.
Here's the message, shared on twitter by Adam Conover (of "Adam Ruins Everything"):
"We did it. We have a tentative deal.
Over the coming days, we'll discuss and vote on it, together, as a democratic union. But today, I want to thank every single WGA member, and every fellow worker who stood with us in solidarity. You made this possible. Thank you. #WGAStrong #SupportUnions#SupportWorkers
@bryanalexandee I've had an abiding interest in disciplinarity and interdisciplinarity since a Stanford professor could not answer how his field (CALL - Computer-Assisted Language Learning) was a discipline. Disciplinarity is also a weak point of Indian academia, as you notice, e.g., with journals combining disparate fields. Therefore, I started a culmination of my work by explaining the difference between a field and a discipline, then I defined terms related to online education. If you haven't already read it, check it out some time: "Online Education as a Discipline" at https://doi.org/10.20935/AL434 or https://www.researchgate.net/publication/353073973
This can also theoretically help get around Netflixes password sharing restrictions
This is the interesting bit here. I assume others will follow in Netflix’s steps shortly (Netflix made a fuckton of money from this) but this would also help you circumvent this crackdown with your Apple subscription…
Yeah, I noticed they added some stuff and annoyingly tried putting it first. I just hid the crap i didn’t want. The live TV actually has a lot of options. I don’t really watch much TV these days but there’s been plenty to choose from so far. I think having the lifetime Plex pass makes it different.
@maikel@tiago@academicchatter Weren't there a bunch of bad-actor instances that mastodon.social and a bunch of other instances defederated from?
Also, the instance I'm on occasionally blocks mastodon.social when a lot of spam is coming our way and it seems to work out okay. Full defederation isn't the only option, there are several shades in between.
Damn I really do like the lemmy community more. On other social media aggregators, people are flipping the fuck out.
The more reasonable discourse about this article, on Lemmy is just healthier for everyone’s mental state.
That being said, I tend to agree this is a nothing burger and Leer Decks is likely fine for a few more years. It’s a low budget show and the writing is on point making a broad range of fans happy. I’ve heard this show has actually brought in a lot of new Trek fans too.
Can't wait to try them at the office. If they are as incredible there as they are here with just my wife and kids, it might make me waver in my belief that there is no God.
if you want to make your posts more convenient to us lemmings, don’t mention/tag until the second paragraph
the first paragraph gets converted into a title with the ugly formatting, but as long as the first paragraph is plaintext (or uses lemmy formatting) it looks fine
Another day, another product joining the Google graveyard. On the upside, this time it's not a messaging app.
From The Verge:
"You might remember Google had a $5,000 Jamboard whiteboarding meeting room display — well, that’s also discontinued. The Jamboard hardware will no longer receive software updates on September 30th, 2024, and its license subscriptions will expire the same day.
"Then users will have until December 31st, 2024, to back up Jam their files, and on that date, Google will cut off access and begin permanently deleting files."
Pity the schools, universities, and businesses that paid Google $5000 for a "smart" whiteboard, only to now be told their files will be deleted.
"Nah, I don't stim!"
"Is THIS stimming?"
"I stim, therefore I am"
-from "Initiation Rites for the Late-Identified #ActuallyAutistic "-
I really thought I don't stim. I don't rock or flap my hands or jump or chew things or make stimmy sounds.
Of course, I do softly grind my teeth (sometimes I may wear night guard during daytime too), wiggle my toes or legs, enjoy knitting simple patterns (= the same repetitive motion), fidget like there's no tomorrow with any small object I can get my hands on and may start picking my nails if I can't find anything else, doodle, I might undo my hair and braid it while watching TV, or braid tassels of my throw blanket...
Stimming is healthy and good for you. Do it.
If -as is the case with many late-identified autists- you have suppressed your stims or been pressured to stop and feel like you have forgotten how to stim, then try to start again. Learn about different stims and just try different ones until you find something that does the trick for you.
@ReimanSaara@btaroli@actuallyautistic it can also be in allistic society’s interests to minimise or dismiss the effects or visibility of autistic being. There is emotional, mental, cultural and literal cost to them in accepting us and adapting to us.
