Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker bashes Pride Month, tells women to stay in the kitchen

Seems like someone deleted this after it got posted, so let’s call out this piece of shit. Apologies if repost.

“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you. Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world…”

caboose2006 ,

First part of his speech “Men should be present with their families and active in their communities” okay, yeah. Amen brother. “Women should be homemakers” oh goddammit Last part of his speech “be proud, not the sinful month of pride proud” FFS man, shoulda stopped at the first part.

Westwolf ,

He never said women should be homemakers.

caboose2006 ,

Obviously paraphrased.

slurpinderpin ,

This guy grew up around me. Truly a bible thumping idiot. And a catholic to boot. How they can honestly believe they have a moral leg to stand on while supporting that church is ironic to the peak. Get fucked Butker

xtr0n ,

I’m so confused by the super fundie catholics. I grew up in New England and was raised Catholic, even went to Catholic school for a bit, and never got any of that “barefoot and pregnant” in teachings or sermons. The church always had awful stances on abortion, birth control, divorce and homosexuality but pretty much everyone just glossed over or ignored it. And there really wasn’t anyone pushing that shit. Like you never heard anti gay or any abortion stuff in church or in school. I wonder if the church adapts to the local region? Like how McDonalds sells wine in France? Or maybe the American dioceses all got infiltrated by super right wing priests?

slurpinderpin ,

It might be regional. Seems like the catholics in the south ignore the whole child rape thing too. I have family who married into that religion unfortunately and their spouse was actually surprised when I brought it up, like he’d never heard about it before I mentioned it

xtr0n ,

Yeah. Back east folks are hyper aware of the child rape fuckery and are salty AF about it.

Westwolf ,

The Catholic bishops in the Northeast have all been cowed by bullying liberals into downplaying and ignoring Church teachings in order to be more appealing. This is why it’s lost so many Catholics, such as yourself, to the world. You have no understanding of actual Catholic teaching, and have embraced the godless degeneracy of the modern world. This is not your fault, it’s the Church’s fault.

xtr0n ,

Is that why that priest in Wisconsin was calling for the Pope’s death? Is the Pope cowed by NE US liberals and ignorant of actual Catholic teachings?

Would one need to follow the Texas bishop who got removed, in order to get actual Catholic teachings?

When you presume that I have “no understanding of actual Catholic teachings”, is that solely based on my ignorance of the conservative and fundamentalist US parishes?

It’s too bad you chose to comment on my beliefs in such a condescending manner. We could have had an interesting conversation if you were more civil.

Westwolf ,

You progressives are forcing an ideology onto children that was literally developed by a pedophile to justify pedophilia. Queer theory, which underlies the entire gender ideology that you have confused with “morality,” was developed by Michel Foucault as a means of challenging the norms around pederasty, because he wanted to have sex with young boys.

How do you think you have a moral leg to stand on? You people don’t even believe in morality! You literally think morality is just a subjective social construction that has no objective basis.

Peddlephile ,

Hahaha. Even if there WERE lots of women who wanted to be homemakers, there is no way that a family can run on the average single income. So, somebody has been telling diabolical lies to him about the current economy.

some_guy OP ,

You’re saying that about a man who gets a lot of money to play a game he played in high school. I don’t think he knows a lot about the job market.

Westwolf ,

About 50% of American families are single-income families, with half of those being single mothers and the other half being single-income, two-parent families. Single-income, two-parent families are found at every income bracket. The idea that it’s impossible (“there is no way”) is a myth.

Peddlephile ,

And where do your stats come from? Do they account for the current cost of living crisis that’s affecting the average person globally? Inflation? Where I am, living on a single income for a family means that you’re likely either in the top 10% of wealth or you’re struggling in poverty.

Additionally, your statement ignores that someone has gone to a university graduation ceremony and made derogatory remarks to the female students who’ve worked hard to get to where they are.

Westwolf ,

And where do your stats come from?

The Department of Labor.

Additionally, your statement ignores that someone has gone to a university graduation ceremony and made derogatory remarks to the female students who’ve worked hard to get to where they are.

That never happened. The media made that up and you swallowed it without actually using any critical thinking skills or reading his comments yourself. If he had made “derogatory comments” towards the women in that audience then he would not have received a standing ovation from those women. People don’t give you a standing ovation for insulting them.

SauceBossSmokin ,

Howard Stern was bashing him pretty good this morning on his radio show. Good kicker but religious nutjob.

some_guy OP ,

Oh, that’s delicious.

A degenerate who has made a career of degeneracy bashed a decent Christian living a godly life? So?

inclementimmigrant ,

Yeah, he’s an asshole that makes a lot of money playing a kids game. Not new and not surprising.

aphlamingphoenix ,

He gets paid to take permanent brain damage. We shouldn’t take anything he says seriously.

ohholyjesus ,

He’s a kicker… He’s not getting hit in the head, just an asshole.

Exactly

Soggy ,

Why do people feel the need to disparage athletics as “kid games”? Are adults not allowed to play games? Are people not allowed to be entertained by feats of strength? Are you just mad that it’s not a “real job”?

Westwolf ,

Because they are soft, lazy, and weak geeks who have been envious and resentful of people with athletic talent their entire lives.

Hobbes_Dent ,

Continuing from OP…

“I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother. I’m on this stage today, able to be the man that I am, because I have a wife who leans into her vocation.

“I’m beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all. Homemaker.”

frickineh ,

The many talents god gave him apparently don’t include shoving his unsolicited opinions right up his Butker, unfortunately.

Montagge ,

The cherry on the shit cake is he was blubbering during this part. Definitely a stable individual.

RBWells ,

Fine, but you can’t extrapolate from one woman to all of womankind. Does he think every man should play professional football?

Westwolf ,

He’s not the one extrapolating from one woman to all of womankind, you are. He never once said that all women should become homemakers. You are taking his praise of his wife, which was meant to communicate to the audience that if you abandon your career for a family as his wife did, then you will probably be happy like his wife was. You people are so rabidly misogynistic and anti-family that you can’t even comprehend what he said when you have the speech laid out in front of you. It’s truly amazing how bad at reading comprehension you all are.

Ghostalmedia ,
@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

The worst part is that he was saying this to a bunch of women who just graduated with degrees. He’s basically telling them all to give up after putting in 4+ years of work. This guy is a total shit bag.

RaoulDook ,

It’s a football meathead speaking his dumb meathead thoughts, just garbage to toss out basically. Sad that his dumb thoughts were published though. Outrage journalism has lowered the bar for society pretty significantly.

FigMcLargeHuge ,

“If it were not for football, I would not be playing football today…” - H. Butker

Clent ,

Blaming journalism for reporting what this guy said at a graduation ceremony is fucking hilarious and tone deaf.

“If people wanted you to write warmly about them , they should’ve behaved better”

Being a meathead isn’t an excuse; behave better. That includes people who make excuses for people who behave poorly.

RaoulDook ,

2 things can be wrong at once you know. Nothing I said is an excuse for the meatheads dumb and wrong words. You misunderstood what I said.

It is also bad that his dumb words were published and shared.

some_guy OP ,

And accruing financial debt. But you can make that go away by baking cookies for your family and preparing a nice dinner for your husband.

Ghostalmedia ,
@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

It’ll all be good after you marry a high performing NFL kicker and don’t need two incomes.

Westwolf ,

A bunch of conservative Catholic women who gave him a standing ovation. Because, you know, you’re completely misrepresenting what he said and don’t actually understand that not everyone in this country agrees with your worldview.

Also, you people are literally incapable of reading with basic comprehension. There is literally no way to read his comments and arrive at the conclusion that he was telling anyone to “give up” on a career.

Sybilvane ,

Aren’t the majority of people in general more excited about family and relationships than about their careers? Most jobs nowadays aren’t exactly inspiring.

ZILtoid1991 ,

Also you need the career unless you want your kids in absolute povety, which can lead them down some really dark places.

Elite projection is strong with this one. He thinks anyone can just afford to have kids and careers are something people have as a fun thing.

answersplease77 ,

This is the point this dork is completely missing. Not everyone’s spouse is an NFL player who makes 8 figures a year.

Plavatos ,

“Man who kicks ball well has stupid opinion, we printed it to ruffle your jimmies.”

Fixed the headline there.

Aceticon ,

We live in a World were, still (one would expect they should have learned by now) many if not most people listen to the opinions of people about things they’re not at all experts in (such as sports-people, actors and so on) because they’re “celebrities”.

Working in a profession which just so happens to be done publicly for an audience does not make one’s take on things outside that profession be any higher quality that those of any other random person.

By the way, it’s quite irrelevant if their opinion aligns or not with one’s own: the informational value of what they think is still zero.

Asafum ,

One of my favorite quotes is “opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one and they all stink.”

Whoa, whoa, whoa, let’s not overreact here. There are only a few cases where wishing that upon a person is acceptable, and I’m not sure this qualifies as a war crime.

“The world around us says that we should keep our beliefs to ourselves whenever they go against the tyranny of diversity, equity and inclusion,”…

“the tyranny of diversity, equity and inclusion”

Dude could have just said DEI. But spelling it out really shows how stupid it is.

logicbomb ,

Our obsession with what celebrities think can really cause problems. There’s really no reason to care what a guy like Butker thinks about social issues, other than maybe to feel sorry for his wife.

ininewcrow ,
@ininewcrow@lemmy.ca avatar

Millionaires and billionaires … our modern day logic is to think and believe that someone who owns or has access to enormous sums of money automatically gives them the title of “genius”.

I suppose humanity has always been like that.

We called them Kings, Queens, Lords, Emperors in the past … we changed the titles but the blind praise is still the same.

eramseth ,

While I agree with your sentiment… millionaires and billionaires should not be lumped together. This conflation is actually a super useful tool for the billionaires (and mega millionaires) to use when convincing the middle and lower economic classes to vote in their favor.

Realistically, millionaire today basically just means homeowner. As ridiculous as it sounds, a million dollars is not an “enormous” sum of money in today’s world.

Billionaire is something different entirely.

Better to say “super wealthy” or something like that.
