Well. He’s wrong.

mvilain , in Wells Fargo worker found dead at her desk four days after clocking in
@mvilain@fedia.io avatar

I predict the deceased's executor will have to sue Wells Fargo for their last paycheck. They'll claim they were working the full 4 days since they were found. And entitled to overtime since they're hourly rather than salaried.

BossDj , in Wells Fargo worker found dead at her desk four days after clocking in

I really want to know the whole story, because I keep making up so many in my head.

Maybe the managers kept her on because she had nothing else and she was past her prime and didn’t actually do any work, but like there’s a spare desk up on the third floor, have a heart, Jake.

Or she had gone in and out each day but, like so many employees, forgot to use the clock. Especially older employees who can’t be bothered with such nonsense.

Why was she sneaking in on a Friday when everyone else was leaving? Heist, baby. But she got double crossed by her team after she hacked the server.

xmunk , in Harris calls out Trump's “brazen flip-flop” on Florida recreational marijuana

I hate accusations of flip floping in politics… Trump absolutely is an unreliable asshole but it is reasonable and good for people’s views on different topics to evolve following receiving new information.

Nougat ,

There’s a big difference between an evolving view and just saying whatever you think the people in front of you want to hear and pretending you’ve always thought that.

SteveFromMySpace , (edited )

Yeah dude cracked down on marijuana usage during his 4 years. AG Colonel Sanders went on a little crusade.

xmunk ,

I don’t disagree, I just loathe that term after the bullshit usage against Kerry.

CaliforniaSober , (edited )

But why so desperate to give trump air cover? There’s what’s obvious and then Kerry?

xmunk ,

Sorry, I can’t quite parse your comment?

CaliforniaSober ,

Please explain why Kerry has anything to do with giving trump leverage.

xmunk ,

Oh, I just hate critizing people for changing their minds… there are so many things wrong with Trump that I’d rather see more of the other angles. Trump is also extremely inconsistent from day to day so calling him a flip flopper just seems like a weak attack - he holds whatever position is politically expedient (see abortion)… so his “stance” on an issue (other than the bizarre ones he fabricates like building a wall or excessive tariffs) don’t really mean anything.

So the TL;DR I’d prefer the campaign focus on their own policies and just let the weird senile old man shout at the wind without giving him any media attention.

Volkditty ,

I think we’re safely past the point of having to give Trump and any of his views the benefit of the doubt.

HubertManne ,

thing is he does not really flip flop as much as talk out of both sides of his mouth.

braindefragger ,

But we aren’t talking about “people”, we are specifically talking about Trump. Trump didn’t “evolve”, he’s a swindler who will say whatever to whoever when it benefits him.

So let’s not take normal people finding out more info on a topic and pretend like that has anything to do with nonsense he happened to say one day or another.

I saw someone with stickers for her on their car today. I hate this fucking place. I would never threaten a government official. I might say something along the lines of this lady was right. Hypothetically

vaultdweller013 ,

Ive got kin in Arkansas, I swear to fuck everytime I have to interact with folks outside of them its just nothing but passive aggressive southern bullshit.

Just cause I radiat the spite of the Mojave and treat social interactions like a slur doesnt mean I dont know what ya sonsovbistches are doing.

Cadeillac , (edited )
@Cadeillac@lemmy.world avatar

I literally heard a “they need to speak like we do” just the other day. Not speak the language we do mind you, she was talking about foreigners speaking English but she couldn’t understand them. Then she doubled down and said “yes, I just said that!” Fucking Cunty McBigot

vaultdweller013 ,

Funny enough ive been told by southern folk to speak properly, now consider the words I choose to write in ya can prolly put together that I speak a somewhat rural southern descended dialect. Actually its closer to three dialects mashed together but thats besides the point. I can never get s clear answer to what they mean by properly since even I am not entirely sure what my accent or dialect is.

Cadeillac ,
@Cadeillac@lemmy.world avatar

I get it. I was in the southwest area at the time, and this older lady said “well you aren’t from around here are you?” Yes ma’am, born and raised. “Well you sure don’t sound like it.” Thank you. My mom ensured we were by no means considered hicks or rednecks. She was a great woman

vaultdweller013 ,

Funnily enough I speak like a complete hick and Redneck, but that has its own cultural and social reasons. Mostly its to fuck with yuppies, its funny watching them think im some dumb Redneck and then I promptly go on about the economic philosophy of Adam Smith.

Cadeillac ,
@Cadeillac@lemmy.world avatar

Oh, I totally get that sentiment! It’s a good time to do it on purpose

vaultdweller013 ,

Yeah I do lean into it but I have lost all control of my accent at this point.

Wrench , in Trump says he had ‘every right’ to interfere in election

Trump argued that the legal actions against him set a bad precedent

Well, we finally agree on something.

The fact that he’s a free man and the republican nominee 4 years after attempting to steal an election and then subsequently attempted a coup is a really fucking bad precedent and shows that the legal system is impotent to stop large scale corruption.

emmy67 ,

Yeah. The demo needed to take him to task years ago. The fact they waited until the election is a political move and decision. And a poorly thought out one

RagingRobot , in Harris calls out Trump's “brazen flip-flop” on Florida recreational marijuana

The article didn’t mention harris’ stance on the issue. Is she for legalization?

Gerudo ,

Nothing on record that I know of, but some people in her circle has said she’s open to legalization

Botzo ,

For legalization, but historically toed the party line.

pbs.org/…/the-evolution-of-harris-stances-on-key-…

Viking_Hippie ,

For legalization, but historically toed the party line

It’s sadly a common theme with her: she claims to be progressive on many subjects, but when push comes to shove, she almost always toes the party line.

I hope she’ll buck that trend when she’s president, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

nullroot ,

Yeah, my feelings exactly

queue ,
@queue@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Depends if the lobbyists want it legal.

Viking_Hippie ,

Yeah, that’s a given, since the owner donors decide where the party line is more than anyone else…

Wrench , (edited )

I wonder how many people she pursued possession charges on as a DA.

Edit:

But at different junctures of her time in office, she has been an enforcer of cannabis laws and an opponent of legalized use for adults in California.

Though she defended marijuana’s use for medicinal purposes as district attorney, her prosecutors in San Francisco convicted more than 1,900 people on cannabis-related offenses.

LovingHippieCat ,

1900 people were convicted, but only 45 of them went to prison. The rest were referred to addiction services and work release programs.

Wrench , (edited )

That’s still a lot of people with criminal records whose lives are much more difficult for it, for something she’s now antagonizing her opponent for flip flopping on as well.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m voting Harris and donating to get campaign. But I find this particular attack vector to be massively hypocritical.

LovingHippieCat ,

Oh, those people have definitely had a conviction on their records impact them. Although I’m fairly sure the ones that didn’t go to prison were misdemeanors, so not felonies. But regardless, I just think it’s important context to know more about the 1900 number. Is it still not the best? Yeah. But it’s also not as black and white as she sent 1900 people to prison for weed.

johannesvanderwhales ,

It’s also not really a prosecutor’s job to decide what the law should be.

Hate to be pedantic, but what kind of phone is that in the photo? It has the white, wired headphones, and an actual phone jack.

It says it’s a campaign event on Monday.

Zorg ,

Likely some form of secure/encrypted phone. There are special versions of phones made, not available to the general public.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot ,

My phone (Motorola G32) has a headphone jack, and the headphones themselves aren’t part of the phone.

Mostly_Gristle , in [news] UK: Independent pro-Gaza MPs announce formal alliance as parliamentary group

@breadsmasher@lemmy.world avatar

Did you editorialise the headline?

Extremist settlers rapidly seizing West Bank land

gressen ,

Yes, and why?

FelixCress OP ,

No, I used auto fill. There seems to be different headline on the main page, different headline when you actually click on the article and different when you auto populate which I assume is the original one. It looks like it has been changed multiple times.

jonne , (edited )

Yeah, the BBC has been caught writing some headlines that minimise Israel’s role in the conflict. They’ve probably changed it after pushback.

FuglyDuck ,
@FuglyDuck@lemmy.world avatar

So like, even the link is the headline you gave in the post. You click it and you even see it on the page before it updates to “extremist”.

steventhedev ,

Headlines are sampled randomly for the first few hours of an article going live to measure exposure. The headline that gets the most clicks wins.

There are a lot of sites that do this.

It causes headaches when it comes to social. Usually the original headline is preserved in the url, but sometimes they’ll use a unique id and then include the editorialized headline option so they can track which headline you clicked on.

Also editorial decisions on wording based on pushback, legal threats, etc.

geneva_convenience ,

BBC edited it and removed Israel as culprit from the headline to make it look as if it this is some extremist fringe sect. They do not want people to know this is official Israeli state policy.

DarkSpectrum , in Landslides force power cuts in upscale LA neighbourhood

This is why you build by integrating into the hill rather than flattening it.

Thrillhouse , in Israeli outpost settlers rapidly seizing West Bank land

God I wonder why Palestinians are so upset. Oh wait:

Last October, Palestinian grandmother Ayesha Shtayyeh says a man pointed a gun at her head and told her to leave the place she had called home for 50 years.
