kmartburrito , in FBI: Trump agrees to be interviewed for investigation into assassination attempt.

It’s too bad we will never hear about the outcome of this investigation.

Trump’s ear appears to have been miraculously healed, I’m betting he barely got grazed and is on blood thinners, which is why there’s not a visible wound and there was so much blood.

Still, had to be a little terrifying coming that close to being shot. He got lucky yet again.

clay_pidgin ,

I wonder if he suffered hearing loss on that side? I think there would have been a small sonic boom right on his ear.

kmartburrito ,

Probably wouldn’t matter anyway, narcissists don’t actively listen, lol.

Nutteman ,
@Nutteman@lemmy.world avatar

A bullet is at is fastest velocity when leaving the barrel, doubt there was a sonic boom next to his ear

Madison420 ,

There is but it’s not a big issue, catching incoming you just hear a loud crack if it’s close or sort of a dull whizz if it’s near but not that near.

eletes , in McDonald’s earnings, revenue miss estimates as consumer pullback worsens
@eletes@sh.itjust.works avatar

McDonald’s is on the boycott list for the Palestinian genocide. I’m really curious if that had any effect.

I would think it’s not that much inside the US but McDonald’s has a large global presence.

dependencyinjection ,

I boycotted McD due to this list, UK, and I really don’t miss it. It also got hella expensive and the service got worse.

I must say, boycotting things has had no Ill effect on my life and in fact I likely spend less money than before.

EnderMB ,

It’s funny, because for a brief moment McDonalds had a spike in popularity when they reopened after COVID.

When they fully reopened their stores, it became clear as day that many of them had downsized in terms of staff. When your fast food is as fast as a standard burger place, it’s not fast…

Raiderkev ,

And they got rid of the only things I used to order. All day breakfast, and the chicken strips. U can keep the over processed nuggets Ronald. The strips were the shit. Just an actual piece of chicken, breaded and deep fried. They said they were only temporarily reducing the menu bc Covid, well, here we are 4 years later with the same shitty reduced menu. Not only that, but the bullshit that’s on the menu is 3x more expensive. Those 2 things brought me.back after a long hiatus. I had started another, but I will say I grabbed a $5 meal the other night with a friend after a few drinks because it was the only thing open and they finally offered a cheap deal that they absolutely were not advertising because they didn’t want people to buy it so they can go see? Price isn’t the issue. Prices will increase until morale improves. Long story short, fuck McDonald’s.

Virual ,

From the article:

“Industry traffic has declined in major markets like the U.S., Australia, Canada, and Germany. In several markets, we also continue to be negatively impacted by the war in the Middle East,” McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said on the company’s earnings call.

So it does seem to be working to some extent.

b161 ,

I’ve been boycotting McGenocide, KFC, Coca Cola, etc. for 10 months now and it’s not like it’s any effort at this point. I’m healthy and wasn’t planning on eating that garbage until Palestine is free. And at this point why would I ever eat it again? Shit food, unhealthy, expensive, supporting genocide. Why would I go back to it?

PurplebeanZ ,

My household has boycotted them due to this so there’s definitely some of us.

stoy , in McDonald’s earnings, revenue miss estimates as consumer pullback worsens

They have been busy closing restaurants in the center of Stockholm lately, a few years back they closed the first ever McDonnald’s restaurant in Sweden, they also closed the highly popular restaurant at Norrmalmstorg at the same time…

corsicanguppy ,

We’ve been to visit our family in Boo, and gone to I think a Nacka McDonald’s.

It’s different from the McDonald’s I’ve worked at and seen, in that it’s clean and visually appealing. It stands out as being a little up-scale vs American metropolitan McDonald’s, which usually seem like late-stage professional surrender, and STILL it stuck out as being “not good enough” for Sweden. I think Trump has been good for people to re-examine their emulation of Americans and decide what they want for themselves. Take-out in Sweden was always expensive, based on visiting over the 20 years since our family grew there and we began visiting, and I barely saw it as a worthwhile thing then; making it more expensive will kill its presence in many countries completely.

SeaJ , in Ethiopia Shifts to Market Based Forex System to Attract IMF Loan, Currency Drops 30%

That’s often what happens when you float a currency because the peg tends to become overvalued. That leads to eventual capital flight and draining of foreign reserves.

Is nice to see the IMF pushing for floating currencies now. They used to push pegging the currency to attract foreign investment.

dmtalon , in Woman in Maine Thanks Bernie Sanders for $20 Inhaler That Used to Cost Her $300.

Don’t always align with him policy wise, but man do I like him as a human being. Always focusing on solutions to issues, not attacking others.

Orbituary ,
@Orbituary@lemmy.world avatar

Which policies don’t you align with?

dmtalon ,

I think there are things he wants that he knows won’t ever happen but he pushes for them anyway. Focusing on ‘taxing the rich’ is never going to happen (IMHO). I think, removing loop holes, and making sure everyone pays there share is a much better fight, and achieves the same results. I’m sure there are other things we’re not lined up on but that one jumps out.

catloaf ,

He knows that. It’s psychology. You ask for everything you want and more, then you haggle to just what you want.

Yes, it’s stupid, but people are stupid.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

I think, removing loop holes, and making sure everyone pays there share is a much better fight

That is the whole goal of focusing on ‘taxing the rich’, though. These two are the same thing stated in different ways. The only people who abuse these loopholes are the rich. The working class already pays their share.

Maybe you just have a problem with the wording, I guess? Because you don’t seem to disagree, at all, from the quote above.

Orbituary ,
@Orbituary@lemmy.world avatar

So, you don’t want to tax the rich? You seem to be misunderstanding something fundamental.

Making the rich pay their fair share would literally mean taxing them. Currently, they are able to get out of it with the loopholes. Removing the loopholes forces the rich to pay taxes.

The fact that you can’t name things means, to me, that you haven’t spent much time really thinking about it. So does the one item you cited.

I’m happy to continue this conversation when you have a solid position to speak from.

dmtalon ,

Where did I say that? Did you read my whole comment? Are you actively looking to argue?

I actually almost didn’t reply knowing whatever I said would lead to exactly this.

Your right I’m not actively thinking about all of Bernies policies in 2024. 'tax the rich" will garner the support of the “not rich”, you know the ones that don’t pull the strings or have the power.

Orbituary ,
@Orbituary@lemmy.world avatar

I read your entire comment. It was lacking in substance or depth. That’s why I made clarifying points.

If you’re not thinking about Bernie politics in 2024, but commenting on a Bernie political post, maybe leave the political part out. Particularly if you aren’t going to speak more about it… this is a forum for discussion after all.

na_th_an ,

Your reply didn’t cite a policy position he has after being asked which policy you disagree with.

nifty ,
@nifty@lemmy.world avatar

'tax the rich" will garner the support of the “not rich”, you know the ones that don’t pull the strings or have the power.

99.9999% of people are not “rich”. If you have to rely on income from a job to keep from becoming homeless or destitute, then you’re not rich. If you have to work a job to make money, you’re not rich. You can rent a lifestyle, sure. But how long can you sustain it without working?

Remember, expensive lives cost money. Where’s that coming from, exactly? A huge majority of people are working class.

Most people would benefit from a society which taxes corporations and the uber wealthy (non working class) their due share. Higher taxes means more social programs, and social programs are not just welfare. Social programs come in all sorts of varieties, including funding art and museums.

tamal3 ,

I love Bernie, and would have given a kidney for him to have gotten the nomination way back when, but it feels like you just got jumped. Sorry bud.

dmtalon ,

Its the nature of the echo chamber that is Lemmy. I’m over 50 and have voted in every election I could, and Bernie is the only one I ever gave any if my money to.

He could still work on how he markets his policies. No doubt probably could have stated my example better or picked something else. Better yet just not reply.
