caboose2006 , in Starbucks is reeling as customers go elsewhere, sales decline

Good

skuzz , in Amazon is responsible for hazardous items sold by third-party sellers, US agency says

This really seems like a win that I hope we see more of. On a personal level, I’m so tired of trying to shop at a Walmart or a Target or a Bob’s Web Site and it turns out half the listings are just third party vendors selling on their eCommerce site. Sell the goods you sell. Let other sites like eBay handle third parties.

These big corps do these reseller models just to get a cut of the profits without any liability. Now the liability is coming to get them. Hopefully it will lead to a better Internet shopping experience. Probably not, but, one can hope.

Bonesince1997 ,

I understand what you are saying and agree. You might already know this, but on some sites a workaround that works somewhat is to use the filter “in-store” and it will show you what these stores sell themselves. Now it might not capture all their products, as you are selecting only those they carry in store, but it will filter out the items you are speaking about.

EscanortheArrogant , in White House pushes Biden's Supreme Court proposal despite Republican objections.

“Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson dismissed the plan as part of Democrats’ “ongoing efforts to delegitimize the Supreme Court.”

Pretty sure the current members of the supreme court are delegitimizing it all by themselves.

Bonesince1997 ,

Of course, but this is what they do to steal the argument and turn it around on the legitimately wronged.

AGreenPurple , in With DUI-related ejection from Army, deputy who killed Massey should have raised flags, experts say

That cop has a tattoo that’s considered a recognition symbol of right extremists on his arm and was still hired several times.

elbucho , in Police recruit who lost both legs in ‘barbaric hazing ritual’ sues Denver, paramedics and officers
@elbucho@lemmy.world avatar

For a group that wants to distance itself from gangs, it sure doesn’t help their case when they jump in new recruits.

pearsaltchocolatebar ,

When have they wanted to distance themselves from gangs?

elbucho ,
@elbucho@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, every piece of copaganda is like: “look, see? We’re just your friendly, neighborhood guys! We like playing basketball with black kids! Isn’t that cool??”

I don’t know that they specifically had a campaign that said: “we’re not a gang”, but that’s kind of the subtext of all of the PR they do.

ikidd , in Project 2025 to end policy work after Democratic attacks angered Trump
@ikidd@lemmy.world avatar

Until about 4 seconds after the election, if Trump wins.

acosmichippo ,
@acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

probably even if trump loses.

PassingThrough , in More women are ending pregnancies on their own, a new study suggests. Some resort to unsafe methods

I once thought the point of conservatism was to put the brakes on wild new ideas and rapid changes, play advocate for the old ways and make sure we’re slow and thoughtful about new ideas. Then I realized that apparently the job is to drag everything absolutely backwards.

As it was before, so it shall be again. This is the will of the GOP it seems.

Wire coat hangers are going to be inexplicably more popular than plastic again too. No relation I’m sure.

TheReturnOfPEB , in Police recruit who lost both legs in ‘barbaric hazing ritual’ sues Denver, paramedics and officers

As some point the USA needs to have a talk about police and their steroid usage.

Because it is a huge drug problem that the DEA refuses to act on for obvious reasons.

ech , in Project 2025 to end policy work after Democratic attacks angered Trump

And it is absolutely not over, to be clear. Not only will they push this shit again the moment the election is over, given a Trump victory, they also have ongoing open recruitment efforts to hire loyalists into positions throughout the government - “properly vetted and trained personnel” to enact their (already worked out and published) policy.

Arbiter ,

Yeah, they’re just going to ground to wait for a good time to rebrand.

abcd , in Starbucks is reeling as customers go elsewhere, sales decline

Starbucks, do you remember when the German government lowered the VAT in July 2020 for restaurants when COVID hit us? The intention was to make food cheaper for the consumer to prevent restaurants from going bankrupt.

That’s the month you increased your prizes to sell your stuff for the same prize including VAT as before and making more profit, giving your customers a huge middle finger.

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

KomfortablesKissen ,

It wasn’t just starbucks. Also, people still went there to get coffee. I do not like those people.

Blaster_M , in Amazon can now be held responsible for dangerous products sold on its platform, government

No more buying Uranium on Amazon, I guess

Chakravanti , in Police recruit who lost both legs in ‘barbaric hazing ritual’ sues Denver, paramedics and officers

This is what you get for joining a gang.

Cadeillac ,
@Cadeillac@lemmy.world avatar

This is my first reaction, but it isn’t the right one, and it won’t fix anything. I’m not saying that all cops are not bastards. They fucking are. Does that mean a new recruit doesn’t deserve a second chance? That we should write him off entirely and not give him an oppurtunity to repent? Off with his fucking legs I guess.

I know someone (that I do not care for) that joined the force to ‘be one of the good ones!’ He is in IT now. I’m doing my best to believe he meant well, realized how in over his head he was, and got the fuck out. It isn’t easy, but we won’t solve this with ‘told you so’

jadedwench , in Starbucks is reeling as customers go elsewhere, sales decline

I like some things from Starbucks, but ever since the manager tore into an autistic girl for having the gall to have boundaries while being sexually harassed, I stopped going. I even reported that POS manager to the DM. Fuck that guy. Girl did nothing wrong and got shit on for “not reporting it the right way”, “not working it out like an adult”, and “being mean”. FFS, the person she was training was the damn poster child for Sexual Harassment and she told him no, she did not want to be touched nor hit on.

I much prefer my local coffee shops, but they are all ~15 minutes away. Only one of them has a decent amount of seating with outlets. The rest are small and don’t really accommodate people who want to work for a few hours, which is the main reason I am going to a coffee shop in the first place. The only close one was that Starbucks.
