FelixCress , in MEGA THREAD - Trump shot but safe, 2 others killed at PA rally

Was the shooter name Johann Georg Elser by any chance?

Zaktor , in Donald Trump rally shooting being probed as assassination attempt: AP sources

Weird how a guy whose administration directly and indirectly killed a lot of people, plans to up his body count in a second term, who’s committed multiple crimes, including insurrection and espionage, but seems both unlikely to ever see justice and furthermore appears to be likely to be elected back into office would prompt an assassination attempt. It’s the small scale of “those who make peaceful revolution impossible” quote. Have a functioning justice system where you can just trust that people who do crimes will be put in prison and a functioning political system where you can just trust that the absolute worst people won’t get all the power, and assassinations become the province of the insane rather than an entirely unsurprising outcome.

Etterra , in MEGA THREAD - Trump shot but safe, 2 others killed at PA rally

I look forward to finding out what the shooters motivations are. I don’t personally expect it to be a left-wing partisan but something else, though I’ll refrain from speculating here. Let’s just say that there current Republican party tends to infight - to try and eat itself any time it senses weakness or deviance from the cult’s marching orders.

Once law enforcement announced the shooter’s identity and the world gets to dig into his social media and communications data… Well I guess we shall see.

Death Valley is not going to be the only place where this is an issue. It could even be an issue where you live at the height of summer.

    Evil_Shrubbery , (edited )

The climate change & weather models didn’t change all that much in the last 70 years, they just became way more precise & can predict changes very locally (more input data and better computers).
Insurance companies use grids of a few 100km.

My region is getting periods of more serve precipitation (with hailstorm increase) & more severe droughts (as in 3 to 4 weeks at a time), bcs of that some areas could become more prone to land/mudslides.

Temperature wise both summer and winter extremes are gonna get higher, but being and more importantly straying between fronts/systems should help ease things, a bit.

But most importantly, I do not have a habit of traveling by helicopters, tho medical transports will suffer, yes.

    FlyingSquid OP ,
    @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

tho medical transports will suffer, yes.

Putting that at the end like it’s an afterthought when it’s one of the biggest problems is ridiculous. Someone already died because of this problem. It’s going to continue to be a problem where people will die because of that. I’m not sure why you think that isn’t a big deal.

Also, I grew up in the state I’m living in now after not living here for a decade. The difference in summer heat is not minor. We never used to have summers this hot for this long when I was a kid. We had a week last month where the temperature was above 95 every day. Also true for this week. Temperatures in the 90s in June were enough news to make the paper beyond the weather section when I was a kid.

The sun’s only been up for an hour and it’s already 76 degrees. Again, that is not even close to normal when I was growing up. So telling me that it hasn’t changed all that much in the last 70 years when I’ve experienced that change myself over less than 50 is not especially convincing.

    Evil_Shrubbery ,

… medical transports are one of the biggest problems of climate change?

And what afterthought? It’s in the title of the main post.

Also, who alive for a few decades didn’t notice climate change first hand?

    Edit:
Wait, did you not get the sarcasm in my golf course post?
I do not care about golf & golf courses should not exists at all, ever.

    FlyingSquid OP ,
    @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

No, medical transports are one of the biggest problems of helicopters not being able to fly due to climate change, something you mentioned at the very end.

And if the rest of your post wasn’t about “it won’t be too hot for a helicopter most of the time,” I’m not sure what the point was.

    Evil_Shrubbery ,

That was not what I was trying to say at all. Where did you get that impression?

    I was replying directly to:

It could even be an issue where you live at the height of summer.

I was just replying what is and will be happening hereb locally, since you kinda asked/brought up the possibility.
(And yes, during severe storms helicopters can’t fly either)

But high temperatures are not the worst of climate change, not even close - it’s the biohabitat loss & all the hydro changes (precipitation, reservoirs, running water, ice and snow coverage, etc).

A lot more people will die (are dying) bcs of lack of clan water (that there was once in abundance), bcs of the diminished agricultural production in their region, and bcs of wars resulting in all those people moving en masse to better regions for pure survival (and wealthy nations will block their entry by force).

Ofc its horrible when someone can’t get to the hospital in a timely manner, but it’s a lot worse if there isn’t a hospital to go to.

And no, I wasn’t sure why would you even bring it up in such a way:

Death Valley is not going to be the only place where this is an issue

I am aware of climate change. I am aware it’s not happening just is one valley. Why would I think that?

Dude, i get the urge for copoium, but damn:

The Secret Service is part of the government. And Trump gave them a hell lotta headaches already. You think they would all conspire with him to stage this?

With every event like this you will find someone who has saw something beforehand.

Did you ever get hit by a car, had a bullet hit near you, or had other close call accidents? Anyone in such a situation will be jacked up on Adrenaline, or just straight away under shock. You do not act rationally under shock I once got hit by a car and just wanted to continue walking. It took two people to tell me to chill and they will call an ambulance.

And final thought. the Secret Service is trying to rush him off stage, you see that in the video. But they are not going to shove him to the ground or drag him bis his legs.

    pumpkinseedoil ,

Barely not hitting from that distance would be wayyy too risky for a false flag attack.

    freebee ,

You are right. The obvious conspiracy theory would be that it wasn’t barely not hitting at all. Guy on the roof shot into the crowd and a movie blood pouch popped at trumps ear.

how were the secret service not on the roofs or monitoring the roofs from aerial POV? Most obvious spot for a sniper.

How do you know they weren’t and just missed it?

the dude interviewed by British journalist right after that says him and group saw man with gun climbing roof, told cops and secret service and neither did anything

Did you see the photo of the guy? A neck beard with a MAGA sun visor. If he comes to the police saying he saw a guy with a riffle on the roof, what will the likely conclusion be? that’s a secret service agent, that’s what it will be.

his first and only focus was his shoes?

    Your point being?

a man who is a documented coward and narcissist pushed against secret service to face cameras and have his head exposed for a long period of time?

    He’s also an idiot, so…

secret service ignores protocol to cover and remove him and let’s him vamp and pose

Same as with several of the previous points, incompetence more than accurately explains it.

straight lines of blood on his face, history with pro wrestling

Same as with shoes, what’s your point?

yes, the supposed gunman was killed, but on what day are there not thousands of trump cultists lined up and ready to die if someone tells them they are on a secret mission to help daddy?

The wannabe assassin was neutralized. It’s way easier to stop someone by shooting them than by means of persuasion. If you want to go down the conspiracy rabbit hole, then gunmen are always killed, dead men don’t answer questions.

yes, some in crowd may have been injured, but when has trump shown any hesitation to have pale injured or killed for his personal benefit (January 6th, church protests, etc).

Real people were actually killed here. Innocent bystanders. I think these people deserve that we be critical with our conspiracy theories. Trump would definitely not be above hurting his supporters if it would give him an advantage. He’s already hurting supporters financially.

his secret service were proven corrupt and involved in cover up measures for trump before (e.g. Deliberately erasing text messages relevant to January 6th)

Corrupt? Sure, but corrupt in what way? Some may just have been trying to cover their own asses.

this all happens as project 2025 narrative was taking form hold, leaked video/audio by the day and days before the RNC.

Part of me wants to follow you, part of me wants to say “Trump had some weirdo shoot at the audience while he cut his ear up. All to get rid of the project 2025 story”. I mean we’ve seen how Trump have diverted attention previously by doing crazy shit. But I’d caution linking the two things. The project 2025 can definitely be buried in the wake of this incident by the RNC, and the RNC most definitely will try to kill the story. But jumping from the RNC being opportunistic, to there being a conspiracy to make people forget 2025? That’s not just a small step, nor a giant leap, that’s a “flying a jetpack until it runs dry” kinda jump.

    Emmie ,

Wow you are so calm and level-headed. I would be tempted for twice at least for a good measure. What if they missed it?

    TheObviousSolution , (edited )

No offense, but that’s all just circumstantial … If Trump wasn’t sure what was happening, that he was shot and bleeding, and just thought the secret service was being overly cautious to what he might have thought was an incident already under control in the crowd, he would have acted exactly as he did. A shooting victim not realizing they’ve been shot or being disoriented and confused is nothing new.

The secret service and the cops not doing anything about it would make it a widespread conspiracy of the sort the GQP think generally happens against them, when the truth of the matter is the bigger and the more people the conspiracy involves the likelier there will be leaks. Specially if they are making it public for “thousands of cultists to line up”.

There may be any number of reasons the cops and the secret service may not have done anything: they might have thought it was an undercover sniper that was part of the security and without being able to pinpoint them were unable to do anything more. Hell. the person spotted may have been an undercover sniper, and the person who did the shooting might have gone undetected and failed precisely because they used a hidden pistol and not a rifle (sources are reporting he used an AR-16, but did so outside the security perimeter for the event and on a sloped roof where the weapon could have been kept out of view where he was wearing camo), which might have been what was reported.

After the shots, their focus was on the crowd and trying to spot any potential threats, not on what Trump was doing. Just because they are willing to hide away evidence of them being jackasses does not make them willing to participate in a conspiracy to this degree.

Congratulations, you and the people upvoting your are the flip side of the coin the GQP is on. Right now you are heading to a bubble just as much outside of reality as the pizzagate peoples, just wait for the facts to come out.

    TheDannysaur ,

This is the dumbest shit and we need to fucking grow up a bit. These “questions” are asinine and not that hard to explain.

    1. Not denying the incident was reported, but there’s a heavy insinuation here that this was set up or manufactured. If so… They needed an entire Secret Service detail, local event police and everyone standing by to be in on it. A couple hundred people are going to be involved and no one leaks it?
    2. “Supposed” gunman. I like how you pivot from “this is probably set up” to “ok even if it was real Trump is capable of worse”
    3. Again, the insinuation of an inside job here. We’re going to involve a hundred or more people and no one thought it would be a problem to kill a bystander? Or the gunman was so good he killed a specific plant? And they had a 100% success rate… No one heard the plan and thought “oh this is a bad idea” and spoke out about it?
    4. Big difference between deleting text messages and MURDERING AN AMERICAN to further a political agenda.
    5. Yes. Things happen all the time. Trump people are saying this is to distract from Biden being inept. There’s always a convenient time.
    6. Yes you dumbshit he was concerned about his hat because they already had the all clear. The shooter got taken out in seconds. They wouldn’t have moved Trump. And they all were saying it was all clear. Also have you ever seen people in an absolute panic? Not the most rational state. Same thing with his shoes. That’s ALSO why he took the photo op. They all dove on top of him. They figured out the shooter’s location and took him down before Trump even got up.

There’s pictures of the fucking bullet in flight. So either that was ALSO manufactured (a member of the press willingly heard the plan ahead of time and doctored a photo or they actually shot a bullet inches away from Trumps head AND captured it). But no let’s just get Trump, a bumbly ass fuck to orchestrate this perfectly. I’m sure he had it a planned to go down, and everyone covered him and he pulled out a razor blade, cut his ear, and put it away, all perfectly executed and no one caught anything on camera from any of the dozens of angles.

This shit is so fucking stupid and I’m so sick of hearing about it. These points all rely on the most ass backwards way of thinking where dozens of people are in on this conspiracy and relies on all of them bring cool with killing someone to make it good for Trump.

Get this shit outta here. This doesn’t deserve the pixels on the screen used to illuminate this nonsense. Be a fucking grown up. We’re going to have to figure out a real way to beat Trump, not pretend this was some false flag bullshit. Accept reality. Be a goddamn adult.

I’m not even saying you’re wrong for questioning, but I am saying you are wrong because the sheer volume of things that would need to occur for this theory to be even remotely possible is so ridiculous, I would consider aliens an equally plausible situation.
