You just described replacing him at this point. I don’t think he should have been running in the first place but the primaries are already done and he won.
I’m really torn on this because his debate performance really was shocking to me. But the incumbency is a point in his favor which is lost if he’s replaced. I’m going to stick with him but if something disruptive happens like a legitimate border crisis or the economy suddenly tanks - THAT’S when it would be imperative that he be replaced. If one or two of his other favorables disappear then the incumbency will start to become a noose.
We don’t need respectable election options. We get on perfectly fine. We send billions and billions in supplies and aid to the other side of the planet either way. Much more than any other country with their ‘respectable elections’ does anyway. Our old dementia riddled leader does more for the complete other side of the planet than anyone did. On the brink of ww3 and here we are according to some with our less than respectable leaders doing the most to prevent it.
Obama and John McCain, or Obama and Mitt Romney, I think were all considered pretty respectable by most Americans, especially compared to our current options.
The idea of not allowing anonymity for protesters has its origins in combating racial violence and the KKK. Klan members suddenly lost a lot of their motivation to assemble in public, once they had to show their faces, those that did were less likely to commit illegal acts and the ones that did break the law were more likely to face legal reprocutions.
The contemplated ban on masks for protesters in Los Angeles was considered following increased violence by masked protesters and was not motivated by covid denial.
We weren’t living in a world with cameras everywhere when the KKK needed to be attacked so vigorously. Times have changed and things should be updated. Especially in a world where bigots are fine marching without masks (see Charlottesville).
Sure, a environment guaranteed to enable the rapid spread of any transmissible disease. I bet this ban wouldn’t apply to MAGA since they are not protesters. Just concerned citizens with hateful banners and firearms.
A mask ban for protesters would also limit our ability to stop a pandemic spreading. Mask bans are a bad idea (especially with creepy af facial recognition around).
I’m so fucking tired of the US. Shit just always seems to get worse, and for every little victory, we take another huge leap towards a fascist theocracy.
It’s going to be true in parts of the country without wildfires too. For the second summer in a row, we had a devastating storm come through with 80mph+ shear winds which destroyed half the trees in the neighborhood. Obviously they fell on houses and cars. The power was out for a good day and a half and then went out for a good 10 hours again yesterday (we were gone for most of that one thankfully). This morning, a water main broke and I doubt it’s coincidence, so we’re under a 24-hour boil order now. We lost two of our own trees and it cost $3200 to get them taken care of. One hit the neighbors’ garage, but apparently their insurance will have to cover that. Insurance doesn’t cover downed trees. How long before they start raising our rates because of these storms causing home damage?
In my personal experience, basically no insurance in America is worth anything.
Nothing you would actually need insurance to cover ends up being covered, or, it covers a huge portion of an absurd cost which is only so absurd because of basically a corrupt cost inflation feedback loop between insurers and providers that you end up personally paying prices that are absurd to all but the very well off.
It ends up just being further cost requirements to basically exist, which means if you are poor fuck you, die.
Oh you want to challenge your insurance and force them to actually cover something?
Believe it or not, when branches actually went through our roof a couple of times over the years, insurance did pay for it. They paid for half the garage roof to be re-shingled because of the damage one did.
At the moment, no, because Bernie or another progressive Democrat isn’t in the spotlight.
If Bernie or another progressive took Biden’s place?
I’m not entirely discounting the idea that the American people could surprise me. But talking to ordinary voters, I’m not exactly filled with hope that there’s a secret cabal of super-compassionate left wing votes waiting to be activated by the right candidate. In fact, I’m filled with the suspicion that Bernie or another progressive Dem would be in the same spot, or worse, as Biden is currently.
And regardless of whether a progressive would perform better electorally, the fact remains that Trump is not a valid alternative to anyone with any hint of foresight.
You suspect that progressives could possibly do worse than your decrepit neoliberal king. How is that an incorrect reading of your post?
That’s not what ‘view with suspicion’ means. Don’t worry - my opinion of your intellectual honesty isn’t any higher than my opinion of your reading comprehension.
You think the left could somehow do worse than biden. That’s really all that one needs to know about you. Keep excusing your BS with claims that I’m not reading your posts right. Try writing a post that isn’t a thinly-veiled bashing of the left.
I have no idea. I saw the news article in a newspaper based in Luxembourg first, but it was in French. So I searched for an English version to share and found this one from Malaysia.
